  • Price isn't a gauge of whether insurance is insurance or a good deal. I would pay more if I knew I was getting real insurance, that would pay out if needed. Only historical evidence can show this.

I would steer clear of TID. They aren't like the used to be. Look at productreviews to see how bad they are now with claims now.

      • Care to share your personal experiences with them? My recent dealings with them were positive (see below).

    • Only historical evidence can show this? Or you can read and compare different providers T&C's…

That only works if you assume that they will abide by their terms and conditions. Historical evidence suggests that this is a gamble, at best. Even the small sample of previous clients here support that.

  • Was wary of these guys initially after reading reviews. However, with my recent experience with TID, I can safely say I will use them again.

Short story is, got sick on recent trip to Hawaii, incurred a large hospital fee which I claimed, got approved and reimbursed within 3 weeks. If you have all your travel and medical documentation, you shouldn't have any dramas.

Only short fall was the communication from them. I submitted the claim, got a automated response saying claim received and then 2 or so weeks later, I got an email from the claim manager saying it was processed and approved.

Overall, pretty happy with the product and would recommend to the OzB community.

It was a great until I had to make a claim. They did everything they could to make it difficult so wouldnt go near them again.

As stated in my comments in a previous TID deal:

I had a bad experience with TID.

There was an earthquake in Japan last year and I couldn't travel from Tokyo to Osaka due to damage on the train system.

This resulted in me also not being able to arrive to my Osaka hotel.

TID advised me the train company and hotel should compensate me if it was impacted by the earthquake, not them.

TID also requested I get written evidence from the train and hotel companies advising they won't cover me before they would even look into my claim.

What's the point of having travel insurance when they're not covering these scenarios.

My work colleague used their credit card travel insurance with the same scenario and no problems claiming.

I advise you to contact any travel insurance with a few scenarios and how they go about compensation eg., like my scenario.

Obviously I won't be using them again.

    • Not to add salt to the wound and I can understand your pain point. But to be fair, the PDS (Pg 16, Pt. 11) states:

Delays, rescheduling or cancellation of scheduled transport services caused by the carrier or related to the carrier, including maintenance, repairs, rescheduling, service faults or industrial activity other than a strike or corporate takeover.

As always, read the PDS and ensure that its suitable for your requirements.

Do you know what TID told me when I asked if they would compensate me if my hotel was damaged by the earthquake?

They told me I had to request an email from the hotel that they wouldn't reimburse me if I couldn't stay there, only then TID would look into my case.

Of course the hotel would refund me if I'm not able to stay there, that's a legal requirement.

My friend's credit card insurance covered both the transport and hotel issue with no issues, and I got nothing from TID.

      • Pg 16, Pt 11! No offence, at all, but that did make me laugh. I believe this is traditionally part of the whole insurance scam thing. How many pages all up, and written in legalese? I just looked, 55 pages! And I bet there is a fair bit of cross referencing needed in there as well. It would be much easier to say what you are insured for. These things have been refined by the best legal minds over centuries (industry and world wide). I wouldn't be surprised if someone studied those 55 pages that ultimately they could wiggle out of any payment. They can and do anyway, because who can afford or be bothered to take them to court over not paying. Essentially though, it seems, that if you've been a long term client, you'll be covered because they know they're ahead in profit already, and they will continue to profit from you if you remain a customer. Otherwise it's based on some weird algorithm accounting for reputation, profit, publicity etc.

  • All insurance companies push back in the first instance as 95% of people will accept that. Go back with more evidence and a sincere letter and you will get paid out.

    • That statement you have made should be backed it up with factual evidence.

You can't make that assumption mate

      • Everything on the internet is anecdotal, YMMV.
