WD My Passport 3TB Portable Hard Drive USB 3.0 (Black) $124 In-Store / or + Delivery @ JB-HiFi

110

Twice the price of recent 1TB for $59 + Delivery @ Centrecom deal, for 3x the storage (3TB).

Previous deal prices for 3TB My Passport were $107 + Delivery @ Kogan and $106 Delivered @ Newegg (both which I think are grey stock).
This deal is local stock.

Note: I recommend you buy in-store as getting it delivered by postage may cause accidental damage or reduce the lifespan of the drive.

For those who prefer delivered & to save the extra couple dollars by using cashback, Amazon AU have price matched this deal.

  • The other day it's $125 for the 4TB?

    That's a bad USB port

    • Confused as to what makes it so ‘bad’.
I bought a different model WD external for my mother a few years ago, it uses the same port, worth mentioning she leaves the cable plugged into the port, but the HDD still works problem free to this day.

      • Maybe the fact that WD portables have the USB port directly connected to the HDD board - so if the port dies you can't just shuck the drive and put it into another case, you've lost all your data.

        Speaking from experience.

Oh I see, I remember reading something similar in another deal.
So WD is ‘bad’ for shucking. Got it.

@thebadmachine: Yeah - hence the 3Tb Seagates for $99 at OW are the best value drive I can recommend (as aldog pointed out below)

I can confirm they're definitely shuckable, better $/Tb, and no reliability issues that I've experienced myself. I know HDD reliability is fairly subjective - but I never trust any drive (HDD or SSD) enough to become a single point of failure anyway.

            • @Switchblade88: Yes I agree with reliability, it is a gamble with any drive. In most cases either it fails within the first year, or lives to be many years old (depending on use).

I just remember some kind of wide-spread issue with Seagate in the past, and also others linking to backblaze etc showing their failure rates.

Or a Seagate 3TB at Officeworks for $99:

Yes I guess if you agree with their past, and failure rates.

  • Sorry not very knowledgeable with these. But what is the difference between this and
