Thought this was a pretty good deal when searching for a portable hard drive. Originally was going to get the 4TB but noticed this one with 3 year manufacturers warranty advertised for $119 + delivery on Kogan. Use the code and get another 10% off the order making it $107 + delivery. Thats around $36/TB which isn't too bad.

    What's so good about this?. You can get a Seagate 3TB Expansion portable or Toshiba 3TB portable hard drives for $99 every day at Officeworks. At least the Seagate 3TB is shuckable unlike WD portable drives.

      WD = Good
      Seagate = Trash

        ALL hard drives fail. Maintain at least 3 copies of any data that's important to you.

        shuckable drives are best because they have less potential failure points and more recovery options - but never count on being able to recover data from a failed drive.

          Knowing Seagate, all three drives will fail at once ;)

    • Hollykryten - I'll second that. I don't know how much OW charge for delivery though. And Shuckable? Only if the space you want them to go in is 20mm or so. So that's no laptops…

      And my personal experience, Seagate good, wd trash.

        I love all these "[Company1] is good, [Company2] is trash" comments.

        Just brings so much insight into my decision, knowing that one single person has had a problem with a specific drive.

        but yes, from my experience Seagate is good

          If we use a failed drive as a measure of suckiness, then WD, Seagate, Hitachi and OCZ are all crappy in my books.

          Or just keep backups because any drive may fail.

      • I think for capital city deliveries from OW is not bad. But regional location delivery is very expensive. But you do get free click and collect. I always use click and collect as delivery for me is a ridiculous $25.95 even although i'm less than 10km from a store.

        • I use click and collect because I'm around a 10-12 min walk from their store (currently).

          I'll check on their delivery rates to me and report back.

          Edit: comes up as $5.95, $9.95 or FREE (if I buy say a 4TB drive) depending on what I add.

    Got the 4tb from Amazon the other day for $89 better value.

  • Ive had a bad experience with Seagate and my Western Ditigal drives have been going great so I'm a little bias on this one but I prefer WD over Seagate.
