Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Family Pack (3 Licences) + $50 Fuel + $25 DSE Gift Card for $147

1530

Dick Smith Electronics has the Windows 7 Home Premium family (triple) pack for $147. At the point of sale they include a $25 DSE gift card. Apparently the $25 gift card comes with all versions of Microsoft Windows during the promotion.

Microsoft is running a promotion where you get a $50 Caltex StarCash fuel card (via redemption) when you purchase a copy of Windows 7.

Works out at less than $24 per license. Details of the fuel offer are at http://www.windows7fueloffer.com.au/

    • Haters be hating. Never be helping.

  • Hi fellow Ozbargainers,

    To those who have bought this, how many discs are in the box?

    Basically I have to send one licensed disc to my brother interstate, one for my cousin and one for myself.

    I will not be able to do so if there's only the one disc.

    Ta!

    • +1

      It comes with one copy of 32-bit Windows 7 on DVD and one copy of 64-bit Windows 7 on DVD.

      • Cheers mate, now to think how am I going to divide it up… o_0

        I've got XP on my laptop, my brother has Vista, same with my cousin, what is the difference between 32 and 64 bit and which is better for software compatibility?

        • Backup all your important files from your XP machine.

          Clean install on your XP machine first.
          Then make a system image (save it on a portable HDD).

          It depends on which Vista they have.
          One computer I'm upgrading from has Vista Business and that person isn't comfortable with a 'clean install' of Windows 7.

          As for 32 or 64 bit.
          Unless your brother or cousin plan on installing more than 4GB of RAM, then go with 32-bit as it's more compatible with software.

        • .

        • 64Bit can run both 32 & 64Bit software, access memory (both RAM & VideoCard) over 4GB… And gives you a better chance of being current. The only time you need to install old-school 32Bit, is for O-L-D machines, where the driver-support is horrible, and they don't make 64Bit drivers.

    • You could make a legal backup of your disc. It wouldn't hurt anyway, to send the backup - Instead of your original.

  • Thanks Crownie,

    I couldn't reply to you on your last post so I had to make another comment.

    Cheers.

  • Fantastic deal OP! just got my copy, voucher and uploaded receipt for my $50 fuel voucher! wikkid.

    • Did you get an e-mail acknowledgement regarding the $50 fuel voucher?

  • Was a bastard to install, but I got there 5 hours later!

    Anyone else get the problem when it failed to install and kept rebooting?

    • I had a very quick install except the wireless g card wont work as I cant find a driver for it, so I am still on XP in a dual boot setup.

      • +1

        just go to device manager open the device that not installed properly, select update driver. When Windows asks you where to get the driver from just select the first option- windows update. If your device is on the list it will get the latest driver from Microsoft. Of course you have to have internet access on your PC first.
        I upgraded 2 PC this way.

        • +1

          the complete installation shouldn't be more than one hour. I suggest to check your optical drive, it may not be reading the disk properly.

    • I do Win7 installs on a daily basis. I've never once had it take more than 30min (on an old P4, 1GB RAM). That's from absolute start, to up-and-running.

      "You're Doing It Wrong" :D

    I'm still used to XP…

    I attached the receipt and asked the question if it was enough.
    I got a reply from them as follows:

    Unfortunately the claim confirmation email is not working at the moment.
    I will validate all claims received on a weekly basis, if you do not get an additional email from me requesting further proof of purchase, please assume your claim has been validated and your fuel voucher is on its way!

    Received: from PRMTLDC01.promtel-syd.promtel.com.au ([203.63.243.113]) by exprod8ob113.postini.com ([64.18.7.12])

      Thanks for sharing mate, that's really helpful for those of us wondering about the lack of confirmation.

      Onya (fast)dude!

    • good job. thanks =D was getting worried before..

  • Is it 3 claims max per person?

    awesome just received my cashback card in the mail (registered post). that was really quick, good work microsoft! =D

    • Congrats! What product/s did you buy and when did you upload and submit for cashback offer from Microsoft? I'm curious how long does it take to process the Cashback offer before delivery it to my postal address.

      • +1

        i bought on fri, submitted form on sat, and its already here. so roughly 4 days (SUPER QUICK), yours should be well on its way too. post your good news when it arrives ;)

        • Meaning they checked and accepted your submission on Monday morning. Today is Wednesday so it is 2 days of processing, handling and delivery.

          I should be getting either this Thursday or Friday.

        • I have another question - Did you scan, upload and submit the receipt via online then photocopy the receipt to their postal address as well?

          Or just scanned, uploaded and submitted online only?

    • +1

      Same. Bought and submitted online on Saturday (no email confirmation)
      Fuel card received via registered post today.

  • Bought and submitted on Friday, got the fuel card today.
    Used my DSE Giftcard to grab some Logitech UE400Vi earphones ($99.99 down to $49.99, then $25 off with the card LOL)

  • Did a fresh install on my Windows XP laptop. I formatted the C Drive partition before installing (used the Win7 disc to do the format). I'm not sure how the software knows that i'm doing an upgrade, rather than just installing the OS onto a new computer.

    I wish the package came with a Win7 sticker, to replace my WinXP sticker. :)

    The DSE guy told me the DSE gift cards will work at woolworths etc, same as the wish cards… is that true?

    • Dunno, but I plan to try it when I fill up my car … $75 worth of fuel.

      • Unfortunately, Wish Gift Card won't be used for fuel.

    • Yes it does.

      Can be used for: -

      • BIG W ;
      • DSE ;
      • Dick Smith Power House ;
      • Tandy ;
      • Woolworths + liquor ;
      • Safeway + liquor ;
      • Caltex Woolworths (except petrol) ;
      • Caltex Safeway (except petrol);
      • Dan Murphy.
  • Received my fuel card today, took 6 days.

  • Is it 3 per person? or 3 per house hold? I want 5

    • +1

      Each products is for 3 users.

      You can get claim up to 3 products only (meaning up to 9 users).

      • is that per household?

        • +2

          Refer to this linked address: -

          http://www.windows7fueloffer.com.au/

          then click "Terms & Conditions" button, look at paragraph section 6.

          1. This Offer is for one (1) $50 StarCash Card per Eligible Product purchased. There is a maximum of 3 claims per customer. Each claim must be made on a separate online claim form for each Eligible Product purchased. Any costs associated with claiming the StarCash Card, accessing the promotional website and mailing in your claim confirmation are the responsibility of the claimant. The StarCash Card amount is not transferable or exchangeable by the customer for cash. The StarCash Card will be in Australian Dollars.

          Thus 3 claims per customer, not household.

  • $147, and 147 positive votes so far. w00t!

    With deals like this, every man/woman/child should own a VALID working copy of Win7!

    Seriously… This should be THE most grabbed deal on OzBargain, ever.

    Messing around with trials, cracks, and all that crap isn't worth it, only to break again with random updates. $24 per machine, for THE most important piece of software you need (Operating System!). And you'll never get another NonGenuine problem again! It's still not fulfilling the actual licence agreement (3 users PER HOUSE) - but it'll never break.

    My life/time is worth something. Every system I build comes with a working copy of windows. If people aren't willing to spend $24 on their machine, then I'm not willing to spend several hours (volunteering) on it!

      I did the install over Win 7 Ultimate last night.
      I woke up a better person :P

    • I hears ya brother. Time is money, and $25 is nothing.

      Im going to buy another pack tonight so i can 'genuine' my mates, all so I dont have to deal with their 'so i installed an update last night and now it says im not genuine'

  • Bought it at 5.20pm last day! Got the $25 and just appleid for fuel card. Looks like a triple win!
    Great deal. may get a portable drive from DSE to back up windows when upgrading.

  • fwiw, I went to the Woolies branded Caltex station and used up my $25 DSE gift card as well as the $50 Starcard to pay for $75 of fuel.

    • confirmed the DSE giftcards work at the same places as the wish giftcards :)

  • For anyone still waiting: I applied for the fuelcard on the 12th and it arrived yesterday (21st).

  • I got it!! I GOT IT!!!!

  • Anyone got a confirmation email when making a claim for the free fuel online?

    • When making submission and see if you get email from them, meaning there is an error on submission. If you don't have an email from them then it is fine. Otherwise best to ring and find out.

  • Is everyone still waiting?

    • I'm still waiting for my $50 card, anyone else still waiting??

      • +1

        +1 for me too! might email them soon…

  • GOT IT!!
