Optimum Nutrition Protein Cake Bites Box of 12 for $10 @ The Reject Shop

1270

Saw this deal at my local Reject shop in Liverpool. Seems to be a decent deal considering that 1 pack retails for approx $4 and here you get a box of 12 units for $10, few different flavours are available. Best before is November 2019.

As a Reject shop employee of 5 years, can confirm all of our stock prices are nationwide unless individually clearanced at each store's individual discretion.

Our store got these in (northern NSW) and they are the same price here

      As it says Liverpool, NSW.

Can someone go check WA stores for me cheers thanks

      Store Entitled has availability.

Why did I just buy 13 blocks of caramilk? This is what I need

    • You can counter the effects of eating chocolate quite easily, just eat these protein cakes straight after the chocolate to balance out your calories.

  • +2

These are delicious snacks while on the trails!

  • +1

You son of a gun, any in Melbourne ???

    • greensbourough have about 10 boxes remaining ((only in berry cheesecake))

  • -3

Thanks budd ..Can someone check this is in Broadway rs

    • I checked, but didnt find it.

  • Can anyone confirm what these taste like? I find it hard to stomach most protein-y things (eg protein drinks and protein bars from shops). Do these have less of that.. protein flavour? :/

(yes I am clutching at straws)

    • +2

I bought these at woolies when they were at clearance. Tbh they are pretty chewy and do not taste anything like cake :(

      • I thought that might be the case. :(

    • +2

It definitely has that protein powder taste.

      • +2

Yep they're not great. I regularly purchase protein snacks and never grabbed another after my first try.. but at this price I'd buy a box for sure

    • Taste wise they're great as a healthier alternative than reaching for a regular chocolate bar.

The only negative I had was the smell, I can't stand the smell of ON protein powders or these.. if they fixed the smell then their products would be 10/10.

    • food is functional .. not a pleasure.

    • You can get samples?

  • Thanks OP.

I’ll pick some up tomorrow at lunch.

  • Can confirm 50+ boxes at Melbourne cbd reject shop ( bourke street)

  • +3

Horrible taste in my opinion. Hence on clearance I assume.

    • +1

Can confirm that, taste like shiittt

    • Taste may or may not be so bad, on clearance due to best before date of a mere 2 months.

  • +3

20g protein and 2g sugar them some good macros

    • +4

      Let's not forget the fat

      • Any maltitol?

        • +10

Shitloads of it, 5g Maltitol is roughly equivalent to 3g sugar. Also has heaps of glycerol (8g). 8g roughly equal to 3g sugar.

So when you start adding up the shitty sugar alcohols they use and the sugar you get 9g. Much better options out there if you're trying to minimise your sugar intake.

          • +1

@ChickenTalon: Gross. Yeah, thanks mate. Gonna skip this one.

            • @krunchymoses: Yep, complete bullshit they're able to claim 3g sugar on the front.

Obviously more expensive, but the Smart Protein Bars are excellent. Pretty clean ingredients and taste really really good. A few places near me in Sydney do a box for $40, but you've gotta ask.

  • Available in Adelaide? Might have to check tomorrow

  • +2

I eat these while curling 10kg thx OP

  • +1

Guys here eat 5-6 hard boiled eggs every (profanity) single day and complain about the taste of this? Taste must be the least concern of a lifter.

  • sweet heading there next chance

  • +4

These are no good for keto at over 20g carbs

    • You mean a keto diet of max 20g carbs or these have >20g carbs?

    • -1

5g carbs - 5g fibre = 0g net carbs. 13g total sugar alcohols, divide by 2 as sugar alcohols take a lot longer than regular carbs to digest = 6.5g

  • The cake range is ok taste at first, but I get sick of it pretty quick and can't bring myself to buy another, their other snack bar is way better e.g. pretzel flavor or peanut butter bar is amazing.

  • Protein bars are sooo expensive.. surely people can make it, esp coming from ozbargain ;) like $2.50 for protein ball at the local servo, blind me!

  • Heaps in Brisbane mall as you get down to the bottom of escalator, and not as many during the check out line

    • which mall? the myer centre?

      • Queen St Mall towards the top, go down teh escalators. Next to JB/Rebel Sports:
edit: lots of choc and birthday cake. 1x Blueberry left

  • +1

No stock at Morayfield or Burpengary if anyone was thinking of heading there. They couldn’t tell me if they’ve ever stocked them or if they’d be coming in.

Shame, these are OK tasting but great for a high protein snack and an absolute bargain at $10/box!

  • These look like they are donut sized cake snacks but I am clever enough to know the packaging is lying to me.

  • -1

If you want protein just eat peanut butter. Works out a lot cheaper too

    • +1

Peanut butter is considered a fat first and foremost…

      • perfect for Keto I suppose?

        • I guess. Negligible carbs, I'm not overly knowledgeable on a keto diet — is there a limit to fats?
Surely PB while being good for keto, there's better fats in a grams of fat/serve vs. volume debate.

No point having 3tsp peanut butter if it takes 1/3 your daily fats.

          • @stygian: Afaik, keto is around 75 percent fat, 20 percent protein and 5 percent carbs of your total intake.

No fat limit and also don't count calories… More counting net carbs intake from macro. It's a very effective diet but it's pretty hard to sustain.

            • @mikkim4eva: Far easier than calorie restriction.

In ketosis your appetite is suppressed. 20 months keto for me and love it, no way I’m going back to eating carbohydrates.

              • @ChickenTalon: so you never eat pasta, bread, pastry, rice and so on. what about fruits? do you eat them?

                • @baldur:

so you never eat pasta, bread, pastry, rice and so on

No, I don't. Your body has no need for any dietary carbohydrates. They aren't essential to eat. I do sometimes eat very low-carb bread & pasta, but not much.

                  what about fruits?

I do eat berries sometimes, a few blueberries & strawberries mostly when reasonably priced and in season. My big temptation is cutting up a big fruit salad for others to enjoy during summer. Sometimes I'll have a little bit if I know I'll be exercising soon. I'm so used to being in ketosis I don't like the feeling of being out of it (stuffy sinuses, bloating etc).

I do experiment with carbohydrates around exercise, but I eat as close to pure glucose as possible.

  • Just picked some up at Glen Waverley aye

My store didn't have any. But they did have muscle milk protein shakes 414ml for $1 each ($4 normally $5 at chemist warehouse)

  • Gillies Plains in Adelaide has all 3 flavours, along the left side when you walk in apparently. The gentleman on the phone was very informative and really nice.

So I assume most SA stores have stock!

    • Couldn’t see any in Rundle Mall 😢

  • No stock at Innaloo, WA.

  • +1

Some boxes still left in Kellyville village center shop. Taste is not bad IMHO. Nice little break from boiled eggs and tuna.

  • +1

Bought the berry cheesecake flavour. They’re the same texture as protein bars.

The filling’s meant to be purple, but it’s brown. They’re probably off, taste alright though.

  • +1

I managed to get Up & GO 35G drinks for 50 cents each too!

  • Bought two boxes. They're ok.
Definitely not a delicious snack of some sort but for something to munch with a decent macro ratio it'll do.

  • Did anyone buy in Perth? I called up to all close to me (NOR) and they don't have any stock.

  • The Glen, none left atm.
