    Anything for 3xl?

  • +2

Thanks for managing to get all these deals tightarse. Any chance of a 3XL in the near future?

    • I think nearly all the deals are pixel 3's or 3xl's so just wait a bit

    • +1

Or honestly, if they are looking to clear out 2XLs I would be interested as well. Need to do something about my two-phone tethering system that I am working with right now.

    • +1
  • +2

$1.5 cheaper than this deal !!
    How low can it go??

    • But that is buying directly from Google, at least not to worry during 2yr warranty period

I have no experience with mobileciti warranty support, let's wait for others to share

      • +3

Google will still process your warranty claims. The only difference is, you won't get advance replacement devices (whereby they ship the new phone to you first).

        • +4

          I bought through a reseller..

i got an advance replacement when my fingerprint reader failed.

          • +1

@RdWarrior: Bought 2XL from a reseller as well almost 2 years ago and don't have the advance replacement. I'm waiting for my third refurbished device now. Wish I had that option where they send me a new one first because well, let's be honest, it sucks being without a smartphone.

Apologies, @RdWarrior: didn't mean to quote you.

Apparently Google charge $20 in international transaction fees, beware!

        • It's the bank who charge that, I got charged by my bank on my purchase with Google.
It was due to google processed the transaction with an overseas account despite tax invoice showing Au address and ABN number. I spoke to my bank and they waived the $20 fees

  • +4

Anything for pixel 3a? Love your work man

  • +1

Dammmnnnn, if only I don’t live in New Zealand 😭😭😭

    • +2

At least you don't have Donald Trump's bestie for a prime minister.

      • -7

yeah, they have much, much worse…

        (but not worse than Scomo.)

      • Bestie??? I thought he is his doggie……

        • +1

You're right. I was thinking of Boris.

  • +1

Will Harvey Norman or JB Hifi price match?

    • Think they only price match physical nearby stores

  • So the main key differences between the 3 and 3a? The internet says Pix3 has unlimited ORIGINAL quality photos backup(up to 16 megapix) for up to 3 years, while Pix3a has compressed 'high quality' backups.

Pix3a has slightly better battery (85mAh more) & .1" more screen, headphone jack

    Pix3 has slightly better processor

    What else am I missing?

Longer support life on the 3a: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705

esim on 3a works (check whirlpool forum on this one)

    • +1

The P3 also has the Visual Core chip which speeds up post-processing, otherwise basically the same.

    • +1

Doesn't Google Photos offer free and unlimited 'high quality' uploads anyway? It says "Back up unlimited photos and videos for free, up to 16MP and 1080p HD"

The caveat is that they run rampant data analysis on your photos.

      • Its a little confusing, from my research;

The Pix3 offers unlimited original quality upload/backups, while the Pix3a is limited to 16mp and 1080p "high quality". 4k video is compressed to 1080p and anything >16MP is compressed to 16MP. The internet states the difference between High quality and Standard photos is negligible, if you need the high-end MP originals you'll have to either pay or manual back them up elsewhere.

        • +4

Yeah, that's the thing, the unlimited bit is available to anyone, including it as a benefit to getting the Pixel 3a is dishonest.

        • +1

Unlimited “high quality” is available on any phone.

unlimited original quality is the feature on the 3

          • @snvl: Yea but only makes a difference for 4k video. Photos you couldn't tell even if you tried - unless you store raws.

            • @onlinepred: Unless you're blind the difference is noticeable.

              • @Maverick-au: Please give me an example. There are many articles of photography experts not being able to tell the difference in 16mp photos.

                Example article from 2016 https://www.vatthikorn.com/google-photos-compression

                • @onlinepred: Did you read that article? Once you lose image quality you can never get it back.

"And there it is! The evidence of quality loss I’ve been looking for. What we see here is called compression artifacts, and to simply put, they are junk that got added to the image from the lossy nature of the JPEG compression. The brighter the pixel, the more different they are.

If we zoom in closer, we can see how nasty these compression artifacts are.
                  ….

Even if the image quality is visually the same, I don't think it's worth getting your images downsized to only 16MP."

                  • @Maverick-au: Did you read how he was able to find the difference though? Something most would never do. And that's from 2016, their algorithms have improved significantly. Also our images are smaller than 16mp already, so nullifies that argument.

                    • @onlinepred: Did you read the article? They also compress photos below 16mp by a substantial amount which greatly affects image quality.

You may not care about keeping image quality now but you will if you want to blow the photos up or otherwise enhance them in the future.

Once the information in a photo is gone your cannot get it back.

                      • @Maverick-au: He literally said he couldn't tell the difference of the two photos until he put it under different filters.

Did you read the article? Also my photos are 12mp on my phone, and 12mp on Google photos compressed.

                        • @onlinepred: He said he couldn't tell by looking at them with the naked eye but the fact is that once information is lost you cannot regain it in the future so editing, blowing up, processing etc is all going to achieve a poor result.

Read the article!! Google compresses photos under 16mp, it doesn't resize them however but you lose image quality which limits future usage. It's not magic, to save space you have to remove information which is the reducing quality.

Why would you refer to an article if you haven't bothered to read it yourself.

                          • @Maverick-au: Yep do if you use your eye to look at photos, there is no issue.

If for some reason you are a professional photographer and use compressed JPEGs ii nstead of RAWS, then for sure you wouldn't compress. Anyone who isn't a professional photographer then no issue.

                            https://www.phonearena.com/news/Google-Photos-High-quality-v…

"This part of the photo was blown-up to 622%! Changes don't become noticeable until you zoom in to about 500%. You will never, ever, examine any of your photos from this up close."

                            • @onlinepred: I've zoomed in plenty of times on photos taken on my pixel, the camera doesn't have an optical zoom in case you didn't know.

Why store photos with a lower quality and limit your ability to edit, blow up, enhance or otherwise use in the future?

You seem unwilling or unable to undestand what happens when you resample and/or resize photos after they are taken. Information is lost, the quality degrades and you can never restore it to the original quality.

                              • @Maverick-au: Oh I understand. I hope you understand that with your eye, you can't tell the difference, even if you crop photos, up to 500% ROFL.

Anyway, we all now know unless you edit JPEGs professionally for some strange reason as JPEGs are already compressed heavily, then you should pay for storage. If you just take photos and crop, there is not benefit to paying or getting unlimited over free.

The 3a is made of plastic, not glass (the back/body), but it still feels nice, just a bit lighter. The screens glass is slightly less durable than the 3, and while the 3a still has the same camera module, it lacks the dedicated control chip that the 3 has. However from testing that I've seen, the lack of the chip merely adds about a second or so longer to processing times. Photo quality is still up there. Also the 3a only comes in the 64GB size.

    • +2

Ehh, despite not seeming like a huge batter increase, it's battery life is a lot better. The Pixel 3 seems to get 3-5Hr SOT compared to the 3a's 7-9hr SOT.

    • you don't need fast processor anymore. headphone jack is a bonus.

  • I was at the Optus shop the other day, and both pixels have this yellowish tint screens, especially side by side with iPhones. Does that bother anyone?

    • +2

Been using my Pixel 3 for a few months and the only yellowish tint I noticed ice is when my Night Light kicks on.

      • +1

        Same.

        • Same here too

      • +1

I did check that the night light wasn't on. I guess it's from the burn in like someone else mentioned below

p.s. too late anyway as I decided to try something new and opted for iPhone 7 128gb

        • -1

iPhones are generally a lot better with colours/whites in my opinion (and the Ozbargain forum is a good test for it, with its background being white). I’m yet to find an Android display that isn’t too blue or yellow.

          • @bozbargain: same. got tired of android anyway, so let's see how that goes. so far so good

    • +1

Might be OLED burn-in due to the demo videos playing all day. Working for a telco shop and both our 3 and 3XLs have that

  • +1

    in for 128gb

  • +2

    Thanks OP, ordered one!

  • Is this the best camera (on auto) to go for? $600 is the absolute max I would pay

Low light shots with kids in motion would be ideal. Not as fast as sports but, you know, the buggers won't sit still

Nothing but camera + not too big physically matter. The processor and updates etc could be a turd for all i care

    • +4

Yes Pixel 3 has best camera in a phone, probably until Pixel 4.

      • iPhone 11 Pro?

        • Maybe one with broken glass front and back for under $1000 lol.

        • S/he said $600.

      • -1

No. Huawei mate 30 pro is. But for 1/3 of the price this the best you can get

    • The lwo light capabilities of pixel phones are amazing although I wouldn't use my Pixel 2's night sight on anything faster than a snail, not too sure if the Pixel 3 will be much different.

    • +2

Good photo but bad video IMO

    • -4

Shame a coupon is required as a jb price match would be great

      • +16

        Hi justtoreply,

Would also love to do a deal without coupon, but this deal was only possible with Tightarse's negotiating skills to hammer the price down this much.

P.S. Please feel free support smaller retailers who are bringing you the offers ;)

        • -2

I'm with you in general. It's just that I think $500 is plenty of $$$ for a phone. It's a crazy world we live in where 500 iphones are valued the same as a million dollar property.

I should be able to get a phone with a good camera (and no other fancy stuff) for the cost of a real point and shoot camera.

          • +2

@justtoreply: I get you, but the main issue is the weak AUD (and getting weaker). Cost of living is getting higher. My car rego + insurance is more than an iPhone 11. Most of us pay a lot in tax than the cost of the most expensive iPhone right now.

If you really want this phone at this price, do consider supporting Mobileciti. It's not easy for smaller businesses right now.

            • -1

@netsurfer: yeah this is true that smaller businesses should be supported when they have deals or lower cost items then big stores.

on the other hand, Living in Australia has a cost. sometimes i wonder where is this country heading and why does the immigration need hundred thousands immigrants every year where those who are here since last 20 years are struggling to find decent jobs.

  • +1

    That's a bit racist code. 😁

  • This is not pink

    • +1

No. Last time was not pink.

This time it is not pink.

    • +2

No, this is not 'not pink', It's clearly white! :P

      • +1

I think what you meant to say was "No, this is not 'not pink', It's clearly 'Clearly White!'"

  • +1

good deal considering the pixel 4 is no way going to be worth double this.

  • +1

    lmao at that code

  • +2

I'd be all over this if I wouldn't be so satisfied with my S10e.

  • I want

    BIGARSE

    .

    • gender neutral?

      • Is that a thing 🤔

    • Human or animal?

      • Social animal.

  • +1

I wish there was an xl or 128 gb one for sale!!

  • +2

Thank you, this is a great deal! Just ordered mine!

  • +1

One finger on the trigger… (brain: kill it! Kill it! Click that confirm order!!!)

    • +2

      Don't.

  • What's everyone's thoughts on the 3 vs the 3a? I was aiming for the 3a but these deals are tempting me

    • +2

The 3 is basically 50% better for the same price. Given that, the only real benefit of the 3a I can think of is it's supported for slightly longer. See https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705.

    • +1

Battery life amazing on 3a. people complaining about Pixel3 on reddit.

  • +3

Pulled the trigger and picked one up for the gf. Will finally only require 1 type of cable in the house/car. Thanks TA.

    • +2

Did exactly the same. She was still on the galaxy s7.

      • Still on an S7 myself. This is tempting though.

  • +2

Come on TA, it's been over 4 years since BLACKARSE. Bring it back!

edit: lol @ lyl commenting first on that thread. Doesn't he work for them now?
