  • My house desperately needs a line trimmer.
Have been waiting for a ozbargain/Bunnings clearance. Just like all the other petrol/power tools I have.

Will this aldi one do the job?

    • I am same

    • Unlikely mate. It will last a season and most likely struggle after limited use in winter. Forcing you to buy another one and the cycle continues.

I invested in a Honda 4 stroke some time ago and I would never look back. Although I can appreciate the initial outlay is rather high.

I've had a Bunnings Homelite for 7 years. Never had an issue.

I got a echo line trimmer was less than 200, I've used the cheaper ones before and after using this echo one I won't go back. Alternatively there is a Stihl one around the same price.

    • NO. will not do the job. not good quality from my experience.

    • I bought one 2 years ago, The trigger broke on day one, replaced it for another one which stopped working after 2 months. Replaced the spark plug, tried everything, no luck.
Returned it and got a Ryobi instead which hasn't failed me once.

      • I too had the trigger break on the Aldi one after a month. I returned it and bought the Ryobi but unlike you I continued to have issues including it not starting after being unused for a few months. Seems all these sub $250 two stroke trimmers are crap imo.

    • Most petrol gardening equipment can be maintained, you just need to be little handy with tools. My Talon line trimmer is 10 years old. But quality does matter, Talon is probably not one of the best out there but works. There's always a point of diminishing returns.

    • Thanks team. Will steer clear.

Will wait for a clearance/run out model of a top brand.

  • Have been looking at the whole mower/line trimmer situation for the past few weeks.
How much maintenance is there in keeping the petrol & oil sorted?

Have been considering the Ryobi one+ setup but it's not cheap and never on sale as also looking to get a set of tools as well.

Don't have a massive lawn so the 18v model seems fine.

All three of tools is cheaper than the single mower kit at $399 lol

    • +2

If your buying cheaper gear they are much more inconvenient (no start, temperamental chokes). More expensive stuff (name brands like echo and Stihl) easy to maintain and use. The starting of the cheaper ones can be very temperamental even between same model, different unit.

electric is the way to go. clean, simple and easy.

  • How do these sales work? I can't imagine the aldi near me stocking lawn mowers, do you get a ticket or something?

    • +1

Comes in a big box, like other bulky items (eg. Whitegoods). Usually only a few (less than 10) are out on display

Had the petrol mower for a couple of years, no issues as far as operational, but I'm wanting to replace the blades - anyone know where to look?
The problem I have is that the grass doesn't get 'pushed' into the basket very well, and needs to get emptied frequently otherwise it will drop the grass

    • Thanks for the info, good things to consider if purchasing the mower, cheers

    • +1

Pretty common with other inexpensive mowers too, the grass not getting pushed all the way. I just don't use the grass catcher.

  • 45cc Petrol Chainsaw $99.99

A 3 year warranty for $100 is great value. It’s a shame that we don’t have any more trees to cut down.

    • I spent $900 on a stihl chainsaw but the number of trees we hit… it was worth every penny.

  • Is the Petrol Lawn Mower $149 good for a bug lawn?

    • Not really, like cjb said the basket tends to get clogged and the grass builds up between the blades and the basket. It starts okay from cold but requires many attempts once it's running hot.

      • Yep. Would be great for a little lawn, not so much for a bigger one.

    • I had it for many years and I never had any problem.

    • Got myself A Victa 155CC 10 years ago. Still going strong. medium size block.

    • +1

Not a bug lawn, but maybe a bugger all lawn.

Petrol at home scares me. Saw a friend smoking while filling his lawn mower. I didn't yell in case it startled him. I just waited as my life flashed before my eyes and when he finished I whispered "dude".

    • +1

A smoke wouldn't ignite the fuel

      • Yes, but vapors come from the fuel.

        • The vapours would not be dense enough in the air to ignite

Got the line trimmer last year. Absolute piece of garbage.

  • +2

We're a bit early for Christmas stuff aren't we?

  • I've found the aldi stuff fairly good for the price.

Aldi lawn mower from 3 yrs ago - Still going strong. Have had no issues with it whatsoever.
Aldi line trimmer from 3 yrs ago - Part of plastic spool inside the head snapped off and lever for choke broke, but still starts every time (even when I cbb putting in 2 stroke oil).

  • Petrol Blower Vac $99.99
Does anybody know how this compares to the ozito electric one ??

  • Any feedback anyone on the 45cc Petrol Chainsaw?

    • Yeah, really hard to find info on it. Did you get one? I'm thinking of trying it out and if it gives me any grief I can return it without question within 3 years.

  • Now we just wait and see what Bunnings responds with…

    • waiting waiting….
