Did I hear correctly that these are exactly the same as koala mattresses but unbranded? Or was I misinformed.

    • -2

      Ask them..

    • +1

I've yet to hear that, and I've seen some people claim to prefer these to koala. But that doesn't mean much

    • +7

Koala is foam. This is pocket springs. Completely different

    • +6

Given that Koala is foam only and these have innersprings, I wouldn't think so.

    • +8

If you go to Ali baba you’ll find the same mattresses sold for a lot cheaper, sleeping duck koala and zzz atelier all get their mattresses from the same factory or two in China that make most of the Compressed form mattresses in the world. Only difference is branding , specifications and material each company chooses different specs.

In fact for a very long time sleeping duck , koala etc used the same marketing material from Alibaba. There is a lot of discussion about this in various forums including whirlpool that even found the factory name etc

      So yes you’re partially correct

      • +3

        Link to alibaba

      • +2

Isn't koala mattress meant to be Australian made? It says made in Sydney?

        • +1

Yes it says so on the website, so I'd like to know as well.

        • +3

Australian made with imported materials most probably or something around those lines to market it otherwise.

  • It's been a while.

  • +4

So far no issues, bought one from last sale.

    • +4

So far no issues, got one from 3 sales ago and last sale

  • +1

Do these come vacuum packed/in a box which is slimline? No mention

    • +2

      Yes, it is.

    • Yeah, vacuumed and rolled up in a box. Expands around 90% the moment you cut plastic (spring part basically instantly), but the foam layer still grows for a week or two.

    • +3

Yes these are rolled in a box. The consequence of this is that these mattresses do not have a continuous perimeter frame/wire. Despite their claims, edge support on rolled mattresses is never good. I'm an edge sleeper and I'd never sleep on another rolled mattress again. They all roll you out of bed.

Having said that, you can't argue with price.

      • This is on the money. I have one of these and it is fine for one person, who can sleep away from the edge. I found sleeping with my partner on this was quite problematic for me.

  • How's this from current users?

    • +4

Really like this mattress. I've got 2 now. I'd say it's a good firmness if it's on a good base, the other is in another mattress and feels very soft because of this

    • +10

I bought this mattress during the last sale. When it arrived I unpacked it and let it expand for a week, the instructions say to let it expand for 24h and it may take up to a full week, so I just left it for a week.
It's so, so comfortable, I'm getting so much more rem sleep, the first 3 nights I had lucid dreams lol. Best mattress I've ever slept on. The bed is now my favourite piece of funiture in the house.
A friend is looking to buy a queen mattress and I've recommended ZZZ Atelier to him

      • +1

Just on this note - I'd recommend leaving it the full week.

Got mine and slept on it right away, had back pains from it. Left it a week and it was fine after.

    • +2

I have two. A king mattress for myself and a queen for the guest room. Get a really good nights sleep and guests also comment how comfy the mattress is.

    • +2

Quality. I've had mine for about 8 months and really impressed with it - firm-ish mattress with a nice plush topper. Huge upgrade from my previous one.

    • +2

Worst mattress I've ever slept on. Absolutely kills my lower back, to the point where I have a memory topper, stick a pillow under my ribs, and will be replacing it as soon as I can. I sleep on my side and have the soft one. It's very lumpy where the springs are - like a 3-5cm difference in height when you're sleeping on it.

There are lots of people that say this is amazing on these forums, which makes me a bit suspicious. If you go back and look through the thread each time these come up, me and a half dozen others (mostly side-sleepers from the looks of things) say they've been disasterous. Maybe it's a side/back thing, and maybe the extra firm is better.

$230 is, relatively speaking, not a lot to try it out, but for me, I'd keep a wide distance.

      • +1

Sounds like you might need a very specific mattress. Are you talking about the indents above each spring? it kind of annoys me that the mattress isn't totally flat but it's not hindering my sleep at all. We both love ours. (QB)

Edit: I should mention heaviest sleeper on ours is between 70-80kg

        • Yep, the indents. I'm 95kg so that may be part of it, but I've never had this problem with other mattresses. ndftz said this below, and it's 100% my experience:

"It's squishy but doesn't hold you evenly , the down bits of your body like shoulders have to work all night to keep the other bits of your spine raised.
no matter how firm it feels your body has to constantly adjust the slack. Airbeds would have this thing beat because at least they equalise the volume where pressure is not."

As I said, mine is the soft, not the ultra hard, so maybe it's different for others with a different version.

          • +1

@Phanatic: Hey I'm 111kgs and mines fine, although I always put a thick sheepswool topper + a polyester mattress topper on top of every mattress I've ever owned. Done that for the last 50 years. This mattress is a great buy.

      • I am a side sleeper, and I did have problems for a long time with this mattress. But I noticed that was when I was sleeping on it with my wife… Since we had a baby we moved to separate rooms (maybe weird but we sleep better this way and one of us can have baby and other one gets a break) it is fine for me now.

Having said that I would not buy another one. Sitting up in bed is bad because of no edge support.

  • They don't sell the red label ones anymore? The red ones are meant to be a bit softer

  • +1

Got one 2 weeks ago and it feels really good. Not as firm as I expected but I am very impressed.

  • +1

Wow free postage to Melbourne - that's really good! A $200-$300 new matress with warranty delivered is easier than going to IKEA…

      • No way.

        • -8

          Let's agree to disagree.

I have never owned an IKEA mattress.
          Just this P.O.S

      • +1

        Ikea are rubbish and overpriced

  • +1

    Again worst mattress ever.

Know how expensive it is to remove a shit mattress ?
Don't buy and have that problem

    • -2

Vote me down reps, but your product was terrible, uncomfortable in my experience and I would have paid double to never have had it in my house.

    • +5

      care to elaborate

    • +1

Free. Council hard rubbish 3 free collections per calendar month.

      • You can’t leave mattresses or fridges out on hard rubbish days.

    • +1

Did you try slashing it? These expanding mattresses often use individual springs (if they have springs, which this does) which all spill out like springy foamy little beer cans and can be disposed through the streets bins on bin night.

Or offer it free on Facebook groups as a month old mattress.

      • That is a killer pro tip

I paid 40 bucks for council to collect and take it away

    • Sell it on gumtree or give it away for free - Not that hard..

  • +1

Great mattress. Bought one a few months ago, and it's much better than my old mattress (paid $1.5k for it, 50% markdown off rrp standard deal).

  • +2

I got this at the same price for a king size last deal. I must say I’m very happy (so far) coming from a sleeping duck which got a massive dent just 2 years in (Sleeping duck btw have Terrible warranty and very sneaky and dishonorable when you try to claim it they will make sure you fail as their requirements and terms are so ridiculous that you will never be able to claim plz avoid sleeping duck!)

Zzz atelier was great with delivery, it’s a bit heavy but not as bad as some ppl made it out to be. Key is to give it 48 hours to inflate if you can. It’s not as firm as I would have liked hopefully they can make firmer versions in future. Also wish memory foam layer Was a bit thicker but it’s not a deal breaker. Hopefully it lasts me a long time but at $270 for a king size even if I have to buy a new one every 3 years I’m still ahead compared to a $1800 mattress from koala

    • +1

They make a superfirm version. I presume you have the black label?

    • +4

Put in a consumer law claim on the sleeping duck mattress. Reasonable consumers surely would expect 5+ years from a mattress. Basically just a warranty claim still, but explain their unfair contractual terms are nullified by consumer law.

    • The thing will inflate fully anyways even if u lie on it after a few hours. Not sure it’s such a key. Had 2 of these and they’ve been fine

  • +3

Have had mine (Queen size) for over a month now - still getting awesome sleep at night, in fact I literally dream every night now.

Very very comfortable and would 100% recommend.

    • +3

Who negged this person? I thought people liked this mattress?

      • +2

        ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • in fact I literally dream every night now.

Believe it or not, everyone dreams. The problem is, dreams are forgotten very quickly, sometimes before you even wake. Which leads to the illusion some people have that they don't dream. All mammals dream.

  • +1

I recieved mine last tuesday. Very happy and comfortable. Delivery was not as bad as what i've read in the reviews, they took the 40kg mattress up 3 flights of stairs.

So far i'm very happy with the purchase and can see my bang for buck.

    • Really? Mine they would only drop it at the door, with a torn box. I hauled it up a flight of stairs by myself.

Because the box was torn, the bag ripped a hole in it. So rather than being able to gently unroll it then let it expand, it unravelled itself and expanded at the same time when I took off the outer plastic. Luckily I was smart enough not to stand behind it, would have done a fair bit of damage.

Don't get me wrong, mattress is great, but delivery sucked. I just figured that's what you get with a mattress so cheap.

      • Yeah not in my experience. The delivery was a day late, the driver did call me asking me to come down and collect it because he struggled to find parking. I told him i wasn't at home and told him to dump it in our lockup room in our carspace, my gf would go down to meet him. He thankfully carried it up 3 flights of stairs much to my surprise. It's definetely not the lightest mattress.

  • +1

Is there a trial period where they will take the mattress back and refund if we aren't happy with it?

  • +1

    $70 delivery to Perth, ouch

    • +1

Yeah with shitty Hunter Express too. I ended up driving to the Canning Vale depot and stuffing it into the car because I was sick of waiting.

  • +1

I'm concerned this mattress is too thick, has anyone had any issues with sheets fitting over it? I was holding out for the luxe dream 7 zone mattress someone linked above but seems to be out of stock for a week now… Not sure if I should get this instead.

    • +1

It’s thick and you’ll need extra depth fitted sheets to fit it.

    • -1

no it’s not any thicker than most mattresses, it’s only 2-3 cm thicker than koala that’s nothing

  • How does delivery work for this item? I've read the T&Cs already but realistically is it actually as organised as they say it is? I.e. courier contacts you on the provided mobile number and you arrange a date/time.

    • The same way delivery works for any other courier item. It’s really not big like you’d think as it’s vacuumed and rolled up in a cylinder like rectangular box.

While awkward, an adult can carry it.

  • +1

I've been sleeping on this for about three months. I'm still getting used to it. Probably because I came from an extremely soft mattress to something that is quite firm.

That being said I no longer have troubles getting out of bed and I feel well rested. Before with my really soft mattress I was getting quite a lot of back pain For me right now it's still not super comfortable but effective and well worth the money.

  • -5

I smell a strong wiff of sock puppeting and astroturf in this discussion.

    Buyer beware

    • +5

Many of the positive voters have accounts ranging from between 3-8 years based off a quick profile check. Is there anything in particular that's causing alarm?

      • I'd look at who is downvoting comments of buyers who have had negative experiences.

Why would bargain hunters vote down a valid (but not positive) experience? Even if they had an experience to the contrary, it doesn't make sense unless you rep and want to bury criticism.

      • +2

This person is doing the opposite of what they are saying. Leaving harsh comments and I'm assuming they are the one who's negging comments that are giving positive reviews. Not sure if troll or has a grudge against these mattresses.

        • not me (not doing the the negging)

but yes my experience with this mattress is negative

      • +1

I think for me I get suspicious that people are so consistently glowing about it, when I've had the opposite experience (and I bought mine based on testimonials here). I kind of figure it wouldn't be inconceivable for a fully online company with a bad product in a competitive market to spend their marketing budget on an intern running long fake accounts. That said, I've actually checked out one or two positives before and they seem legit (more so than me, who's mostly a lurker), so there's a non-negligible chance I'm just paranoid.

I wish there was a way to be a verified purchaser, like sharing a photo or receipt.

        • +2

There are many verified positive reviews on Product Review. Rating of 4.8 from 213 reviews.

          • +1

            @Yola: Yeah totally legit.

          • +1

@Yola: Welp, that about does it. The vast majority of reviews on that site look dodgy - non-native English speaker expression, really bizarre things to say, and all five star reviews. "I have no idea how they created such wonderful mattress at this price tag, but I (and my back) thank the Atelier team every single night ever since I started using it." Sure, nice verified blonde lady purchaser from Sydney. Sure.

A lot of the testimonial stories seem pretty similar to what's on here.

    • Well my experience with the Red label one has been ok. I'm starting to see some slight sagging in my usual spot, but I'm still sleeping really well on it. I figure for the price I can just replace it every few years!

  • Extra firm showed as $240 with POLLEN20

  • Why i cant apply the code.

  • +1

just beware even the extra firm is not that firm…

    • agreed. no back arch support at all

  • I bought a 'medium firm' mattress with a firmness rating of 6/10 and have been using it for a few months. It's too soft for me and I'd rather something firmer but from what I can see, they only have 6-6.5/10 or 9/10 and nothing in between.

    • I'm considering their 9/10 mattress with a 75-80mm memory-foam or latex topper. Might be a nice compromise?

  • looking for bed, recommended from them?

    • +2

If you ask me, absolutely not. Others have varying experience.

This mattress isn't fit for shagging on let alone sleeping on. Try literally any non box-rolled mattress.

Easy to ship to you, annoying AF to get rid of.

      • +2

Thanks. but Im looking for a bed.. saw this ad and try to see whether their beds are good.

        • I hope I was helpful.

If you want to extract the positives from my reply they were :

          • Quick shipping
          • Others say good things

I'm just saying as somebody who purchased one that it sucks and a mattress is hard to get rid of

          • @ndftz: Not sure who neg you, +1 for your reply.

      • +3

Why annoying to get rid of? You don't have hard waste collection where you are?

  • +1

How does this work with bed frames?

Seems it's so high that it'd be incompatible?

    • +1

its not overly high (it is a terrible mattress) but if you're keen anyway, the dimensions should be compatible with your frame

      • +3

How bad is this mattress — I mean, what were your experiences with it? I keep reading good reviews about it, but would be good to hear the cons too. Seems very cheap…how does it compare to say a $2500 mattress?

        • +10

They have already said they bought the wrong bed for shagging. They should have bought the Xxx Atelier, not the Zzz.

        • +5

There's padding and then there's support
I didn't know the difference before this mattress. But I never slept on it without my back absolutely killing me the next day, or during the night.
I've never had back pain from sleeping before and haven't since getting rid of it.

It has plenty of padding but no support. Mattresses of other brands tend to have more support regardless of their padding levels.

That's kind of all you need to know. It's squishy but doesn't hold you evenly , the down bits of your body like shoulders have to work all night to keep the other bits of your spine raised.
no matter how firm it feels your body has to constantly adjust the slack. Airbeds would have this thing beat because at least they equalise the volume where pressure is not.

          Hope that made sense.

Seriously it was cheap so shame on me. But such a waste putting something so huge into landfill. Save yourself

          • @ndftz: Just curious, if you hated it so much why didn't you ask for a refund? And they will pick the mattress too?

            • +2

@AloMel: I doubt they would do that.

              Do they do that ?

Can a rep confirm they pickup a used Unrolled mattress ?

              • +1

@ndftz: They supposedly offer refunds, but only on full-priced mattresses - ie. not eBay discounts, which presumably is all anyone buys.
