No? I'm looking at it right now, and it says $2420 Business from Perth to Kuala Lumpur…

        r/whoooosh
It was a dig at the airline's past.

        • +2

          wow, totally missed it. Fair!

        • Dark, dark post. In fact chilly depths of a post.

Don't be silly man, MH370 still has not been resolved, don't make disrespectful comments

  • +1

    Points with qantas also discounted?

    • -1

Yeap. Malaysian flights don't get j points.

      • I got j points flying KUL to BLR and CGK to KUL . But not KUL to MEL

        It's so weird

        • Flights between Australia and Malaysia earn nothing in Business and First, regardless of booking class. BLR and CGK are fine (in eligible booking classes).

          • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Why is that?

            • @Bloodfart: It depends on the route as per the comment below.

Which is either a business decision by Qantas Frequent Flyer, by Malaysia Airlines or negotiated between them. (Or much less likely by a third party such as a competition regulator.)

      • It depends on the route as per https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/flying/airline-earning#mh

Flights between Australia and Malaysia, UK or Europe*; New Zealand and Malaysia, UK or Europe*; and Malaysia and UK, Europe* or Middle East - all earn nothing in Business and First, regardless of booking class.

Business (booking classes CDIJZ) and First (AFP) earn on all other routes, such as intra-Asia.

Cannot see any cheap fares, if the destination is not KL, I will have a lot of choices at a similar price.

  • Be careful with MAS out of Perth, as the quality of the business class product varies from one extreme to the other depending on whether you take the daytime flight (B737) or the late night / early morning flight (A330).

    • So which is better?

      • I would hazard a guess that the A330 being twin aisle vs the 737 being single that the airbus will be significantly better.

the 737 might be equivalent to business flying domestic on the east coast

        • Thanks for the answer.

        • +1

Yeah that is correct, A330 will be a much better choice.

The 737 has recliner seats and they would be roughly equivalent to what Malindo has on their 737s. So you would be better off flying Malindo if they are cheaper to KUL.

    Pretty average prices IMO.
I've priced up PER-SIN-HND return (Perth to Tokyo return) in SQ Business for $2800 first 2 weeks of this December.

    • doesn't perth get direct flgihts to tokyo?

      • +1

Yes we have. Since last month using ANA.

    • Can you give me exact dates used? I can't get anything for $2.8k from PER to SIN, let alone to NRT.

Tested using first two weeks as you said cheapest is $3.3k.

      • I plugged into Skyscanner
        PER-SIN-HND 03DEC
        HND-SIN-PER 15DEC
Cheapest I can see now on SQ J class is $2990.. looks like it has crept up overnight.
If you do end up flying SQ, try book onto a A350-900 or 787-10.

        • Must be all gone then. Its now starting $3.2K using your dates.

All good, Ive already booked my J seats since last year. Flying to FUK on the 787-10. Was just curious with your statement.

          • @starburstyellow: Did you search for HND, instead of NRT?
Hope you have a great flight and enjoyable time in Japan. Have been twice this year and will go back for autumn foilage soon!

            • @aussie1990: Yes did exactly as above. PER to HND (via SIN) $3214 comes up as cheapest.

              https://www.skyscanner.com.au/transport/flights/per/hnd/1912…

Thank you! Flew J last year as well but was to KIX. Ah nice. Wife and I go almost every year. This years trip will be our 8th in last 11 years. Went twice in 2015, once during sakura. Realized we prefer to go during winter so haven't been any other time since.

Will try next time for autumn but 2020 will be during winter, again.

              • @starburstyellow: In that search, you have selected the return date for 15 July!
Thats a looooong time in Japan. That is a lot of sushi!!

I fly their business class for their satays

    • +1

To be honest for people flying MAS from Perth we lose out big time.

Chef on Call is not offered on any flights to or from Perth.
They use both the 737 and A330.

Satay are only offered on the A330 from KL to Perth during the afternoon flight.

No Satay on the A330 from Perth to Kl as this a a morning flight.

The last time I flew Malaysia Airline was on the old 777 and they had to "ration" the satay.

      • Agreed.
If/when we do get an A330, its an ex- Air Berlin A330.
The hard product up front isn't as good as their new A330s they use to East Coast ports.

      • Sorry, I fly from Sydney so can't help there :(

    • +1

I, too, like to pay $1500 for items usually priced at $5.

  • +9

I think $385 Scoot is more my price range and sophistication level.

    • +2

And with that fare you can fly 6 times and still have money left for better satay.
