  • limit 1 per customer makes me sad. This would go so well in my new: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/48713

    • +1

ask a mate to buy it for you.

  • with 5400rpm you will be going backwards…, Nice offer though ! I have a Hitachi 1Tb makes quite a loud noise…

  • +3

excellent! 5400rpm is a little slow for internal use but will go well in external case
ps, no 'handgun' promotion? i guess he got fired!

    • +3

      Shot by a confused customer?

    • +1

Or he was just a dummy.

      • +2

stop gunning for the best pun.

      • +2

Jokes of this caliber are just stupid

        • +1

          shot from the hip

  • +3

Only $6 cheaper than it is now?

  • -1

$6 saving is not a bargain, it is less than 8% discount. JOKE!!!

    • +1

normally I would agree but when it comes to computer components at this level $6 is quite significant considering they are already the cheapest.

      • -1

But considering it's MSY and their track record with turning up, waiting in line for an hour and having nothing to show for it when they sold out in the morning and don't bother putting a sign or anything to say sold out, intentionally leaving you to line up… I'd still agree. Joke.

    • +1

That's perhaps a bit unfair considering how cuthroat computer retailing is. They don't exactly have the sort of wiggle room that allows a Myer to take 50% off a shirt while still receiving a 30% markup.

  • +3

I paid $7 more a month back and could purchase more than one. The 1 unit limit along with no reservation makes for a wasted trip to save Just to save $6-$7. If your not going to be guaranteed of getting one. Only to find out that they may have all been sold out by the time I get there.

  • pffft no deal

  • price not too bad, but not exciting, plus NO email order and limit 1 per customer

  • well the email reservation thing didnt work for (Plympton SA) the last piggy promo,
so it doesnt matter if they accept it or not…

  • It's out of stock at present, but if you're super keen to shop at MSY just wait for the 2TB WD Green drives to come back in stock. http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=2588 at $88 they are better than the above Hitashi anyway- and NO RESTRICTIONS.

$6 off is hardly 'bargain worthy', but it's still cheap. Technically.

Better in what way? These are the 5K3000. Here is a thread with some benchmarks and comparisons:
      http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=937849
These drives in a raid array are much better than the WD greens that I had that kept getting dropped. They have also been faster and these drive are 24/7 rated. Oh they also have 512b sectors.

      • I've given you plus vote for interesting link/read :).

But everyone's had personal experiences/horror stories with different drives, and benchmarks arent the whole story when it comes to a drive being reliable long term. My main concern with Hitachi is that they've been struggling mightily against the other drive manufacturers- and I'm pretty sure Western Digital actually bought them out for a 'bargain' earlier this year- which isn't a great sign for support/drivers.

Horses for courses, but I always have concerns with long term serviceability/warranty/driver/compatibility issues when a company is bought out by another. No more updates. Hitachi has been the 'ugly sister' in the hard drive market for years, whilst others have been making huge strides. I'm not a WD fanboi by any stretch, but I'd take WD over Hitachi in day. Other's might disagree and say Toshiba or Seagate are king (yuck), but who's to say ones right and ones wrong. I've always had WD and never had an issue, whilst 2 Seagates and a Hitachi have given me no end of grief (albeit a few years ago now).

no email order, no one pick up the phone, drive there for an hour and waiting in line for half an hour and some dumbass saying "SOLD OUT and NEXT PLEASE" so no deal!

  • $6 saving with limit 1 per person + no email order + no reserve?? is this a joke???

    $6.00???

clearly this is pure advertisement!!!! I give a -NEG!!

    • thank you all for Feedback.

  • First they did a good PiggyHead on the wifi n promo allowing VIP lanes, now they do a complete 180 and rev up a WildboarHead and say NO email/reserve,

a kind -neg from me :)

Rep, msy sells any WD 2.5' drives? Couldnt see it in part price list…

  • +1

    sub$80 2tb HDD. always welcome.
for the next couple of months until it becomes standard price and then …….

  • I have better things to do than to line up at MSY.

  • at 5400 its not much good for playing media from is it, i saw they have a seagate barracuda 7200 for $55

  • +2

3 more bucks to grasp this: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB 7200RPM 64MB SATA3
    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?product…
    pretty much better than

    • Agreed

    • Am not sure if its really a 7200RPM :O

  • No other sub-7200rpm drive plays nice in a RAID like the Hitachi's. I am so glad I went in yesterday and picked up four 5k3000's at $85, rather than having to deal with them being sold out.

That said, 1x limit is kinda useless when you're trying to get em for a RAID… lol
