Hi All,

Yet another GL.inet deal is available for their travel routers. 10% off for the GL-AR750S model.
I recently found out about these, very useful to share internet while you're travelling from a hotel room to multiple devices. Or in my case, switch the PS4 over to being on a VPN to get international Netflix, while the rest of the devices in the house can still use regular Aussie internet.

It's got 3x gigabit ports, decent processor and high speed wifi.

Regular price is $98.48 (free delivery since it's over $39)
Discounted price is $88.63 (also free delivery)

I grabbed one of the basic Mangos versions in a previous deal, worked quite well.

Why travel if you just want to watch Netflix?

    • More access to shows/movies when in different regions.

    • Why post if you're not going to read first?

      • I voted him up, maybe he didn't understand the context.

    • No the point is it has multi-functionality.

It works as a Wifi Extender, a VPN router, etc - it's even just a basic switch in a way too

It's useful at home or while travelling.

    • LoL agreed with you bro

    • Maybe the travel is for work?

  • +1

what type of travel router allows for hotel wifi sharing; in particular those type of wifi access that requires a login via their web interface (keying in the hotel room and password etc).

    • I'm almost positive that's exactly what this does, if I recall you can even connect on your phone, type in passwords and stuff, then type in your mac address for phone, into the router (?) and pretend to be the phone.

      Etc

I've heard quite a few positive stories about these things. Haven't travelled with one yet thou

      • i'm a n00b so are the below steps correct?

        1. Connect rj45 cable to router
        2. login to router settings page
        3. and … ??

router settings page usually configure only password and admin ID. by keying in the two fields, can the router automagically connect to the hotel's wifi page and fill in the hotel room number and password (and sometimes a required email address) and auto click on the "i agree" button?

        • I can't confirm or deny - if you look up Amazon reviews (or the previous 3 OzB entries above which people entered) I'm 95% sure it will do what you need.

I'm almos certain you can 'spoof your phone' (once your phone is authenticated) and it just outright works. People seem to claim it's really great in hotels.

Pretty sure but not full 100% - check around first.

  • I use one with my Vodafone TV to watch catchup Aussie TV when I’m overseas.

  • It supports Shadowsocks too, therefore might be usable even in China. If someone tried before, please share your experience:)

  • I bought one for my upcoming trip, might even use it in my room to extend my wifi too.

  • is there a deal for that one that takes SIM cards?

  • So I got one from my OWN SALE in this damn thread, but man sorry to spam but I'm having MAJOR difficulty here.

Plug device directly into a spare ETH port on my router, specifically so it's nice and stable source connection.
Connect via Wifi, BAM wifi drops out.
    Wait 2 minutes
Connect via Wifi, it might work for a minute, BAM wifi drops out.

Wifi just keeps on dropping out, over and over and over and over.
I tried 3 diff power supplies, I tried 2 USB cables, 3 firmware?

It's in "router" mode, not AP or Extender.

    Here's the idiotic thing.
If I get the 750S to connect to my home wifi connection, and re-share the connection (same mode, router mode) it's a little more reliable - but that's obviously receiving and then re-sharing wifi, it should be more reliable via WAN port (?!)

Has anyone else seen any weird behaviour?
