                @stockastics: Please don't take this as investment advice.

                There are lots of pitfalls in real-estate investment and it is very different to investing in major city.

                • Repairs and maintenance can easily cost more than rent.
                • Council rates as a percentage of property value are significantly higher in regional areas.
                • Capital gains are likely to be near zero.
                • Land value is only a small part of purchase price.
                • Much harder to sell in a town compared to a major city.

      Maybe it's costing Amazon more to inventory them than they would make selling them at regular price 10 months from now, compared to the lost opportunity cost of not stocking more popular/in season items instead.

    That basin looks like something out of the 90's. No wonder it's so cheap. But a great buy if you just want a basin and don't care about current trends/aesthetics.

      Yep.

      I have one of those super tiny impossible to wash even one hand in kind of basins so if I can figure out how to install this without getting in a plumber then this is awesome because right now I can't use it to wash my hands and it barely can fill a jug for washing.

      They’re clearing out old stock at below cost, and Amazon covers the shipping.

      Basically, Amazon is losing big on this deal.

          For Prime customers? Amazon covers part of the shipping costs. And in this case, I’m sure they’re losing money on the whole deal.

            @[Deactivated]: It depends on how much it actually costs to ship. The seller actually pays an amount to Amazon for shipping (depending on weight), whether or not that is less than the actual cost, who knows?

            What I can say for sure is that the seller paid a fortune to store these in the Amazon fulfillment warehouse. Weight is mostly irrelevant for storage fees, but the huge size of these items is what they get charged for (costs are determined by cubic inches or cubic centimetres).

            ETA: looks like they've been losing money on shipping costs for years in the US deliberately. There are a few articles on the internet as to why they do that, pretty clever if you ask me. One such article;
