Is this the card people are talking about to get for the HP MicroServer?
I wonder if it comes with/ if you can buy the low profile bracket.

    • +2

would love to know if it comes with low profile as well, would be great for microserver

    • +1

I am heading that way this afternoon and will let you know.

    • as already commented, this is NOT a low profile card- which is consideration #1 for the HP MicroServer.

the next consideration is power use. pretty sure the HP server needs a video card that that doesnt need extra power cable due to the small power supply in place.

the bracket is only half the issue- the power usage is the rest.

  • +14

    MSY $38.

    • +11

erm, don't know why people negged that comment - he was just doing a price check on a company that typically offers good prices. so the 29 at dst is good!

    • anything that beats a piggyhead gets a +

Doesn't say anywhere if it comes with a low profile bracket. But for those who were wondering about audio through the HDMI connector:

    Integrated HD audio controller

Output protected high bit rate 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI with no additional cables required
Supports AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio formats

No onboard audio needed. I have a HIS 5450 card in my micro server and it come with a low profile bracket - perfect for the job.

  • please confirm low profile bracket for microserver ?

    • +2

As nothing in the specs indicate it would have that, you assume it doesn't.

    • +2

hi , thats not a low profile card :) thanks

      • +1

What equivalent low profile card do you sell?
        and for how much?

I think there are a few HP microserver purchasers here
        in the market for one.

      • looks like a low profile (just without the bracket)

I've bought a few half height cards - just removed the bracket and sat it in there…. works fine as long as your not plugging/unplugging constantly…

shame no PAL TV out… i know its a bit redundant now, but the media centre sits right under our old TV so would like to plug it into that as well for normal every day watching.

biggest issue you may find with passive cooled cards is that it over heats in a low profile case…
i unscrewed the VGA and punched a hole in the case to screw it through…

added a fan to one card, hole sawed a hole in the top of a case and put a fan on it for another.

  • I bought the 512MB DDR2 model years ago in my HTPC which comes with low profile bracket but this one with DDR3 and 1GB so not 100% sure.

  • Seems like a good deal anyhow without the low profile bracket, maybe look on a few forums and someone might have a spare they're willing to let go cheap?..

  • Cab this be fitted to the old Dell GX280 slim desktop PC's to use as a HTPC? I have a few lying around….

    • Is the Dell GX280 has enough grunt to play video? Is this more dependent on graphic card?

  • +4

I just rang the store and it's not low profile. They will mod the post a little later

    • Thanks for that, saved me the trouble.

    • thanks for you call .. :)

      • but can you remove the bracket and install it anyway? (even though the cards I got for my GX280 dont specify low profile, they fit fine once i removed the VGA and bracket)

also- as a few people are asking- whats your best price on the low profile with the bracket?

        • +1

this power color doesn't come with low profile & bracket.
          i have 2 left Galaxy G210 1gb with low profile + bracket only $35

        • DO'H - you still havent answered the question…

even though it doesnt come with the bracket, does it look like the picture - ie you can remove the bracket (and VGA plug) and use it in a low profile case?

        • To rephrase wisc's question: is the back plate in some way soldered to the board, or is it detachable via simples screw/nuts?

        • Wisc, you can remove the full size bracket and put your own modded one on, did it with my card.

  • +1

phinko, does your store sell the low profile version and if so how much?

    • +2

      yes i do have 2 left ~> GALAXY G210 1GB LOW Profile i can do you for $35 :)

  • Is this "pickup only" only or is it just that the delivery is extra and available? :)

    • +1

delivery available but extra $9 postage + tracking number :)

  • I think this one is low profile for those around Brisbane or Melbourne http://umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=82&… much difference between the two?

    • Virtually none. The 5450 can't make much use of the 1GB anyway.

      • Bit confused, why can't the 5450 use 1GB?

        MSY is selling a 1GB LOW PROFILE 5450 card for $39.00. http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=6178

        • Because it can't process data fast enough for more than 512MB to be practical. It can technically use 1GB, but as I said, it can't make MUCH use of it. The main advantage of the extra RAM on a graphics card is smoothing out minimum and maximum frame rates to achieve a generally more fluid gaming experience, and the 5450 isn't a very good gaming card.

  • Is is DST going to be on here regularly? Hope so - it's where I go when I can't be bothered going to MSY!

    • +1

dont worry … i can mach all MSY price for you + good service

      • Generally I've found the store wouldn't match MSY except if I was buying a system or some really large purchase!

        • next time just lets me know first maybe i can do better price than them.
normally DST strong on Wholesale, not retail like msy.
so if large purchase , price will be very cheap.
most of the computer shop in the city , get the part from DST as well

    • yeah MSY prices went up a bit to pay off that fine i think ;)

  • I had put the ASUS 1GB 5450 PCI-E VGA Card on the HP microserver, But playing a 1080P file through the HDMI, the picture is lagging, would love to know its only for me or everyone having the same issue, 720P runs smoothly.
The above graphics card I bought from MSY, comes with a low profile bracket. $39

    • I got the same card, bought it from MSY few months ago, works very well. HP workstation is connected via HDMI to Home theater, I have watched few 1080P movies it works fine. But some times it take some time to load, but I believe thats an issue with my CPU and not Graphics. Im using 1.4E HDMI and connected to ARC. And alos it came up with low profile bracket.

    • Look at OCA thread on the microserver, something about using the latest drivers and switching on a GPU setting on the playback software you use.

    • yeah mostly depends on the software your using, i found VLC couldnt play a 1080P (hyperthreaded P4 nvidia 8400GS)

loaded the same file with powerDVD - worked flawlessly. would be something to do with the codec or the setting im using, just got to nut it out…
(in other words this card being more powerful than my 8400GS should be fine)

  • I am using 1.3b HDMI cable, but unless if I am not sending 3D signals there is no difference between 1.3 and 1.4. Mine takes some time to load and even after its lagging, also the picture quality doesnt seem look good as I directly play the movie from my external HDD to my samsung TV

    • Does this happened to MKV or MP4 movies? What media player software do you use? You should play around with different player and decoders as it can make a hugh difference.

  • Windows media player & VLC , KLite codecs are installed on the computer. Dont remember MKV or MP4, but as its a big file I think it MKV format.

    • I had lot of issues using VLC player, I might be the unlucky one! But once I installed Klite codecs pack all my issues has disappeared. I cant remember what exactly I did, but you need to tweak around the file associations FFO or some thing like that.

  • I bought one of these for a mythbuntu based HTPC, the card itself is low profile, but no low profile bracket included. There are low profile brackets on ebay, but a cheaper alternative (if you have basic tools) is to mod one of the brackets from your pc itself. Great card for the purpose, worked straight out of the box with the open source drivers, and the amdcccle drivers worked great as well. I have not had a problem with 1080p mkv files.

    • I have a few old low profile graphic card and will look at possible swab for the bracket but the HDMI port may be an issue.

      • If you don't intend to use the HDMI slot, it doesn't actually poke out at all and you can just cover it up. Otherwise I just used a dremel (angle grinder will do as well, even a hacksaw if you are mad keen) to cut out a rectangle where it is. It doesn't need to be precise or pretty, it will be on the back of the box.

  • I have bought one for my old computer, P4. Unfortunately it is a full size card and bracket change will do nothing to reduce the size of this card. It is not the same as the photo.

    • ahhh finaly an answer to the question, thats exactly what i though could be a possibility… i've seen half height pics before that haven't eventuated into half height cards! (if you remove the bracket)

    • Was it this exact model? Powercolor do two 5450 1GB cards. One is half height, the other isn't.

      http://www.powercolor.com/au/products_features.asp?id=221 <— half height
      http://www.powercolor.com/au/products_features.asp?id=356 <— full height

      • Full height. The quality is so so as some of the gold strips got scratched off after plugged into my motherboard. It works but don't expect too much from this card. It is almost equivalent to the 7600GT in performance but uses less power and does video better.

        • I'm not sure you understand my point.

There are two Powercolor 5450 1GB cards. You have the full height one. How do you know this listing is for a full height one when half height ones exist?

EDIT When you say you have bought one… do you mean from this shop from this listing?

        • Because unlike you he went and read the reps comments?

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49006#comment-532885

        • That speaks of the bracket, not whether the card is half-height or not. If you read replies, I myself state it's not low-profile BEFORE the rep!

        • In that case the part number in the post matches http://www.powercolor.com/au/products_features.asp?id=221 :)

        • In which case it should be half height, which means donkeykong bought it elsewhere or the listing is incorrect… :|

  • This card does not work with nForce4 board but works ok with my P4 board.

  • Seems like everyone is using this for HTPC. I know you can't expect much from a $30 GPU but is anyone using this mainly for light gaming?

    • light gaming at lower res should be ok - eg i use my P4 at 800*600 on a 8400GS which is really smooth - havent tried pushing it… so gaming is not the issue - its how high a res you can go before it gets jerky…

  • Let me word this clearly, I have bought the card from the supplier, dtsolution, yesterday at Preston. It is a full height card.

    • Thanks :)

The one they list is the wrong one then!
