I was thinking the same thing,

MSI has a 120hz panel in it tho And cooling wise the MSI has considerable more copper in there

Also shopback has a 6% cash back offer atm
Which after cashback would bring it to 1014.53

  • very nice spec for the i7 one

    • Forgot to update, it costs more $ to switch CPUs and/or upgrade other hardware components.

  • I bought one of these a few months ago. Overall not a bad unit however Lenovo customer support just ignores you. I'd never purchase Lenovo again

    • Dam, that sucks to hear.
My last Lenovo laptop screen hinge half-broke 3 weeks after warranty period ended. But I get what I pay for, it was a dirt cheap laptop with mid-range specs.

      • Unless the hinge was treated roughly or not handled correctly ( should open laptop in middle of screen or at each corner with smooth even force ), I really think laptop hinges should last many years as some of my older laptops still work fine 5+yrs on.

Dirt cheap is still AU$300-$500 which is considered a lot of money for over half the population of this planet, so hope you attempted to contact Lenovo for repair/complaint. If so, what was the result?

I didn't try to contact them because I was technically out of the 1-year period, and I suspected their CS was going to be annoying.

My laptop never moved anywhere from my desk and I only closed/opened it once in the morning / at night. The left hinge seized up and when closing it, it snapped the entire bezel out of the display.
The only thing holding the metal hinge to the plastic back-plate is two self-tapping screw that has about 3-4mm of thread engagement, and it completely ripped out of the thread.

It's really strange because going on 3 years now, the right hinge is doing 2x as much work and it's going fine.

          • @Blitzfx: With such careful use if only a few weeks after 12 months it could have been a good idea to contact Lenovo service and explain and at least ask them, sometimes you can get a surprise.

For a new laptop I think Australian Consumer Law would give you at least 18 to 24 months on a laptop, even at the lower end and for a hinge. Good to try and hold companies like this responsible to their responsibilities where possible.

Sounds like a faulty product or something worked loose on the left hinge, as if it was a design fault you would think the other side would have given up the ghost by now too. Although being reversed, like a mirror opposite, maybe one side could still be weaker than the other side. I bet your nursing it since break. Never broke a hinge, but I have had faulty screen cables also from opening and closing hinge/cable strain.

  • It sounds like you are used to open the lid with the left hand pulling up the left corner. With today flimsy builds the hinge gets lots of stress.
