    Credit to silverrat23 for this very helpful write-up. Followed the process step-by-step while redeeming a previous deal and worked like a dream. Hope it helps someone else:

    For those wondering on how the process works, these steps below detail the porting process from a carrier to Amaysim. An optional $2 sim from the shops can be used to speed up the process.

    • If you're an existing Amaysim customer and want to take advantage of this, it requires porting out of (and abandoning) Amaysim to another carrier, like Telstra, then back into Amaysim. The purpose of this process is be considered as a new customer, all while retaining your phone number. I recommend porting to Telstra, since their process is fairly quick and painless. Their Sim cards are also free from their website, which I recommending stockpiling a few to keep them handy. If you're not an existing Amaysim customer, skip this step.
    • Purchase that Groupon code and click on the link in the PDF file, which will bring you to the checkout page with the plan pre-selected.
    • Sign up to a new Amaysim account. To be safe, use a new email address. The rest (name, address, payment method) can be the same.
      During checkout, select previous provider and phone number, and at the end, apply the Groupon Code in the "Promo Code" box. This will bring the plan to $0, since this was already purchased on Groupon.
    • Enter a payment method, which is usually a credit card. But don't worry, this can be removed later. Then, submit and complete the order.
    • Go on Live Chat and request the plan to be activated on a $2 Amaysim sim instead. This is used to speed up the process and avoid the default 5-day mail delivery of a Sim. When prompted, provide them with the Sim card number and make sure the porting occurs with the $2 Sim. If you are happy to wait however, skip this step.
    • While the porting is in progress, which usually takes a few hours, log into the newly-made account and change the payment method to BPay. This is found somewhere in the settings page (location of that differs between devices). With Amaysim's payment system, a valid payment method is required for the plan to auto-renewal every 28-days/month/billing cycle (despite the whole thing costing $0), hence the use of BPay as a placeholder.
    • Wait for email to confirm the number has ported over and we're done

      One step you should do differently to maximise your credit.

      Don't click on the link in Groupon voucher to sign up to Amaysim. Instead use an Amaysim referral link and sign up this way. Select the correct plan when signing up and then at checkout enter the code from the Groupon voucher. By doing this you (and the referrer) will get $10 credit in your Amaysim account.

          From memory, the referral credit gets applied a day after joining Amaysim. You will receive a txt message from Amaysim informing you that the bonus credit has been applied to you account. No the service does not need to be activated first.

      Awesome detail of steps, thx. A bit of a noob, sorry, are you saying you can port to the telstra free sims without the need to purchase a plan? I always thought you had to at least put a recharge on them?

        There’s no need to recharge with Telstra. During sign-up, you have to select a plan, but it doesn’t ask for card details.

        So yes, you can port to Telstra for free.

          Sorry I am a little confused.
          So you go onto the Telstra website choose sim only plans - choose eg $50 small 15GB plan.
          Fill in the details and port number. Does that mean your plan is activated and you get a physical sim or does it mean your number transfers before you activate your plan?

          — and then you transfer it out before you activate the plan?

            @prozerran: he was referring to this kind of free… remember that if you're porting from network A to network A, it is not a must that you port to network B in between.

      That's not how it works. This deal gets you 4 months' (actually 28 days) worth of the 5GB plan for $6.47 and it automatically at the end of the month.

      You don't have to do anything for 4 months. Set a calendar reminder for 4 months from today, prompting you to either port out or change the payment method back to card if you're keeping it.

    Is this consider one of the better deal for a single data and calls sim? Reason for asking is because I am looking to get about 5-6 sim cards for my relatives when they come over to Australia to attend a cousin's wedding, only staying for a week or so.
