            • @haemolysis: The 12 month contract I sign up to, JB did a "hard" enquiry. And yeah like koOl said below, that's most likely because it's a postpaid thing. My guess is that this will also be a hard enquiry given you don't pay the $75 before the plan starts (for these so called Telstra prepaid plans, the bill actual comes to you a few days after you start your service).

        • I signed up for month to month plans before with Vodafone and they did a credit check.

I think the logic is since it's postpaid. They want to make sure you can pay the bill off each month.

So many JB Offers (Samsung, Pixel 4, $500 GC and this etc)
No energy left to do the math so appreciate if someone can suggest the best options to combine and go.. :-)

    • +4

look! The King of bunnings drone deal here! Hi BA.:)

  • +1

I suspect JB and live chat will be flat out tomorrow…

  • +3

Is this plan advertised anywhere in the store? I want to see T&C's

  • Just to confirm if I already have a mobile sim only 12 month contract, I can still sign up to this right?

    • I believe so

  • +1

So many upvotes yet no proof of this being legit

    • Read comments above @dvsx signed up today got gift card & canceled sim

      • -6

I am not seeing any link between live chat and the gift card images posted above, are you?

    • There is a guy above who posted screenshot of livechat and giftcard above…

      • +4

There was a picture of a gift card and cancelling a contract - no proof the two are linked. Plus it’s meant to start tomorrow. Not saying it’s not legit but some proof would be good

        • Yeh still doesn't deserve a neg until further verification tomorrow…

            • +2

@cker: Haha plenty of deals get posted in advance without all the details/evidence..

        • Which was also for an entirely different plan; 75GB not 100GB. Nonetheless, I guess we'll find out soon enough. Fingers crossed!

          • -1

@gheygan: Sorry guys, it was the same plan. I got the numbers mixed up. Here is a pic of my friend cancelling his. I was just as skeptical.

  • How do i get it if its true. Should i go down tomorrow to JB and ask any salesperson they would know?

    • +2

Wait for further reports on this page if you want to save yourself a trip just incase it isn't.

      • Yup probably i should wait

  • How do JB gift cards work? Can you use it to buy something for $300 and return it the next day for a cash refund?

    • +2

No, you cant do that with any store giftcard. Refund goes back to the same form it was purchased on

    • Doubt that. Generally stores refund according to original payment method so you'll likely receive store credit if you use a gift card.

    • +1

Let me know if you need help. Post the GC to me and i will do the hardwork.

  • Does Telstra do a credit check when you sign up?

I know Vodafone does a credit check even for month to month plans..

Edit: don't worry, read previous posts.

    • Does a credit check affect your credit rating?

      • It does, negatively, but not by a lot. Though if you make multiple "hard" enquries within a short time period it does significantly affect your credit score.

        • Also depends on the type of credit applied for… even if it’s over a long period

  • -1

Does anyone know if this actually works?

Where is ant evidence of this deal on their website?

  • +1

Can confirm this is legit. It's similar to a Telstra 'Casual' plan, month to month payment with cancellation at anytime.

    • How do i get it? Do i just walk in the store and ask a salesperson?

      • Yeah friend works for JB in telco, said he signed up a few people to this today. He also mentioned this deal may not be active tomorrow so just wait until someone reports back to this thread with their experience.

  • +1

I am unable to find the link… To purchase the card …

  • Is $300 really worth a credit check?

    • +4

      It's ozbargain, so yes

    • +1

Uh yes? There are literally 0 long term consequences to a soft credit check.

      • -2

This will not be soft enquiry as its month by month.

  • +1

The number of people raising the question about credit check is quite concerning…… are you in need of a perfect credit score? Call JB HiFi today, get them to do a credit check for you so you’ll know whether you’re in a good position!

  • If it’s not locked in then why do they need to do a credit check I wonder.

    • It's just standard Telco stuff because if the customer later wants to sign up to a contracted plan they won't have to do another credit check.

      • +1

I already have a telstra service on a contract. Will they do another credit check on me?

  • -1

It says for the 12 month plan 65 a month you only get a 400 gift card, the 500 is for the 24 month contract.. but I read people getting the 500 with the 12 months contract, did the staff made a mistake, the site says differently to what I’m reading n comments, also can the gift card be used to pay for the plan? Or can it only be used on physical products in store.

    • +1

That offer was only effective on 22nd and 23rd of October.

  • Will be checking back later to see how this pans out today. Might have to jump on this to go with my $500 GC from other day.

  • +2

I would be shocked if more than 10 get this. Assume it will be shut-down pretty quickly.

  • There must be some sort of mistake. I mean you’ll pay 75 dollars and get 300 back? It seems very unreal. Imagine if thousands, millions of people do that?

    • +6

It's a secret govt ploy to stimulate the economy :)

    • Yes, jbhifi prices are inflated four fold

  • +3

There's actaully something wrong with the title, there's no minimum charge of $75, it's actually only going to be a fee of $2.50 if you cancle on the first day of signing up. The sales person told me this when I was getting it on Wednesday that they charge prorated rates and they only charge you for the days you use their service, so it's $75/month (30 days) which equalls $2.50 a day.

    • haha that's so accurate

if so I should cancel by midnight!

    • Correct.

    • So I lose $2.50 and gain $300? Awesome!

  • +1

I will try this today and report back.

    • The gentlemen said this deal was true up until yesterday (started Tuesday) but as of today you must get an ipad with it.

I suspect this posting may have been timed perfectly since this deal was on since Tuesday and OP or someone could have posted it then.

      • (started Tuesday)

wasn't that the $500 one that got changed to in-store purchase only on the day but then changed back to giftcard by 4:30 pm?

  • +7

I plan to go in a 9. So will also report back

    • That's the spirit!

      • +1

        See you outside @ 8.59

        • You guys east coast daylight savings time?

  • How does cancelling not actually paying the $75 work? Do you not actually pay anything in store when you're signing up for the plan, and then you just cancel with Telstra before they charge you for the month?

    • +1

      Correct.
      Collect gift card.
      Go home
Jump on the online chat and cancel.
Wait for your pro-rata bill to arrive tomorrow.
      Pay the $2.50

Spend your $300 gift card with joy.

      • does anything happen to your credit score if you do this?

        • Been discussed elsewhere in the thread. Consensus is no.

        • No idea.

Not sure why everyone is paranoid about their credit score.

          • @edrift: Credit card churning

          • +2

@edrift: To be honest, I don’t know what a credit score is and I’m nearly 19 lol. That’s why I’m wondering. I don’t have a credit card, only debit

      • Is the pro-rata based on time or data used? So, if I waited 15 days and used 99gb of data I still get $37.50 back. Or I use 99gb of data in one day and there goes my $75. I'm assuming it's based on time.

Couldn't find any pro-rata info in the CIS.

        • +1

Time only. You could use the 99gb in 1 day then cancel.

Most telco work this way, but the new startup Circles Life pro-rata data with time too.

  • +3

JB stores gonna be sick of ozbargainers today.

  • This plan is on the Telstra website. Clearly mentions no lock in contract, no excess data charges in AU and 5G network access included.

Also mentions Month-to-month plans: If you cancel your service, you will receive a pro rata refund for the remainder of your month. If you have any device, accessory or service add-ons attached to your plan, you will have to pay any remaining amount owing on your next bill.

  • +5

If this lasts till the end of the day I'll be amazed.

  • +5

i guess today is going to be an OZB meetup at all JB hifi stores

  • +3

Waiting till 9:30 for when all the negs and reports start rolling in that this deal has been changed or cancelled.

    • Hahahah… called it. Came back to check on it. Just before 9am 205 upvotes, 0 downvoted. 9:05 and the complaints and negs start rolling in. Ya’ll got trolled. :D

  • +3

Well, 40minutes to go before we know what's going on….lol… so exicted…

  • Thanks OP.. Btw your OZB ID gives me headache :p
congrats on 1st post & very popular

  • +5

Currently doing it at the Galleries stores in the CBD.

    • Was it advertised in store or did you have to ask about it?

    • +3

      In the same line haha

      • Pics or it didn't happen

      • bloody hell…how big is the line…post a pic…

        • 7 ppl. Some getting the pixel 4 deal as well

        • 6 in the line, they got 2 staffs to process our order but the it system is a bit slow

    • +2

They got a call from HQ while processing my order, the offer changed to gift card for iPad purchase but they honoured my order as they were already processing it. Only me and 2 others guys got it honoured.

      • Wow just like a James Bond movie.

      • Was one of the luck ones there (Hi!) - managed to score the $75 MBB / $300 GC deal, then used the $99 from the GC to pay for the $65 12mo/S10e deal.

They cut others looking for the same deal off just after me. I guess the early birds get the worm. And in this case, the worm is a series of corporate errors resulting in free JB money.

        • Don't forget to cancel the $75 plan!

      • Count me too. The email form head office came in like 30 sec after I signed up.

JB still honoured it. Thumbs up from me :)

  • +1

Hopefully they don't shut this down before QLD JB's open….

    • +2

Think of us Perth people!! It's only 6am here haha
