Great for picnics, but then who goes on a picnic and remembers to pack a fridge.

And probably need to go each weekend to have it pay for its self.

The capacity is small and on a 40 degree day the drink will be at best 20 degrees.

Only works when plugged in and running off the car battery

Great in theory but less in practice

    A mans Toy!

(All based on personal experience with similar item)

But voted up, as us fellas need toys…

    • I think this is more meant for long trips, camping and similar than for picnics.

These types of coolers will smash your battery so unless you're planning on running your car constantly, you probably don't want it for that either.

Most suitable for truck drivers who want cool food I guess..

Also these Peltier coolers use a metric crapton of power. I have one and it pulls 8A continuously to bareley keep stuff cool. Vs my Waeco compressor one which pulls 5A with duty cycle usually less than 50%.

      • Agreed, Waeco are great but cost about $500 from memory.

You can get small cheap chinese DC compressor fridges on eBay. Last one I bought was $120 (using ebay voucher of course) and its been working fine for over a year now.

          • @stumo: You can get heaps of these Peltier\thermoelectric coolers on gumtree for almost nothing. (as ppl have mentioned they provide very little cooling and draw heaps ow power, and overall most are useless)
I have an engle 8L one and it $h!t, I use it as a storage box.

@stumo: Can you link an example?

          • @stumo: whats a good one to look at on ebay?

            • @rasserie: Just search "compressor fridge" and buy the cheapest one. You will have to wait for a decent eBay voucher deal though to get near the deal I got.

  • Brilliant. Thanks for the comments all, I"ll pass.
