Is there a way to permanently disable/damage the microphones on these? Would love to use it as a digital clock.

    • +2

Most of the devices I have, have a button that disables the mic.

    • +1

just buy a digital clock - plenty of round ones out there

      • Even just having a different alarm times for weekdays and weekends makes things like this worthwhile over a standard clock.

        Weather forecast is nice too.

    • +1

Yes, in the settings. There is also a button on top that disables the camera/mic. If you are more concern you can de-solder the mic or inject silicon into the mic holes.

  • +2

Can you view the camera on this from your phone?

Also at jb hifi, 49 dollars

  • These any good as a bedside clock?

    • +2

I have this as a bedside clock, the best clock I've ever owned :)

      • How's the brightness?

        • +4

It's adaptive (if you enable it), so very pleasant. During the day it's super bright, and with lights off just enough to read if you wake up in the dark

    • My Sony bedside clock's snooze button has been playing up in the past year, wondering if this is worth replacing it now.

What about Echo Show 5 with larger display at reduced price of $109?

  • BOUGHT LAST ONE IN ELIZABETH ST , MELB

      Why are you yelling?

      • HIS CAPS LOCK IS STUCK

      • +4

IT WAS THE VERY LAST ONE!!!!

  • Can I connect my Xiaomi XiaoFang camera to this for baby monitoring?

    • Hate that piece of rubbish. Can't even get it to work with its app on my phone.

      • yeah it's not the most reliable. I was looking at that link above ad the Wyze 2 works with this and is effectively the same camera.

        • +1

BTW Wyze uses the same hardware , but not software. have a read.

          • @demoiree: Thanks will do.

Not sure why I'm being downvoted for asking a question, this is a weird place sometimes!

            • +1

@iShibby: I didn't downvote you. Someone else must have really hated the XiaoFang.

    • You want the Chinese government to monitor your baby? :P

  • Have one. Will probably buy another one or two at this price. Great device. Works seamlessly with all my smart lights and integrates beautifully with RING doorbells and cameras (also owned by Amazon). These make a perfect video intercom for the RING doorbell. The round display works perfectly for the cameras field of view. Just say, "Alexa, answer the front door" and you're connected.

  • Unavailable in store (sydney) at Officeworks and TGG. Not available through ebay plus

    • JB hifi?

  • Ordered one 4 hours ago on TGG website for 2 hour click and collect. It's shown up on my credit card and tracked for Cashrewards, but doesn't show up in orders under my account on their website and when I called the store (after 2 hours) they had no idea and it isn't on their system. Is there a way to contact the webstore directly, without being redirected to the physical store?

    • I ordered on JB website, got confirmation that it's ready to pick up 20 mins later

  • +1

Just be aware that 'Drop-Ins' to this device are instant (they connect immediately and do not need to be 'accepted').

There is a small delay while the screen shows on the receiving end, but make no mistake, you can instantly observe what is going on when dropping in to this device.

This is the same for all Echo devices on video. No soft solution (if you set DND then you can't communicate at all), just a little sticker over the camera if you want.

  • Its $49 at JB-HI-Fi as well amigos

    • +1

      Oh oops someone already posted

  • Hmmm I brought the Lenovo smart alarm clock for $67 odd, feel like this is better
    sigh

    • But the Lenovo has a larger screen doesn’t it? In what way is this Echo Spot better?

Considering either one of these myself…

      • To be honest the lenovo screen is tiny

        • but this one is even smaller at 2.5"!

  • You can price match with Bunnings for 10% less. $44.10

    • Can't find it on their website though…

      • You are correct sorry. You can however price match with the other Amazon Charcoal 2nd Gen Amazon Echo $49 deal @ Bunnings Warehouse which is listed on their website or if Bunnings have old stock sometimes it isn't listed on website

  • (Duplicate error)

  • I got the last one from OW Pitt st but it’s white. Anyone looking to exchange for the black in the cbd the next few hours?

    • +1

Not me but the white one is the most sought after. You shouldn't have trouble changing with someone I'm sure.

  • Okay, home assistants are currently overrunning my home, and I totally don't need another one, but this one has a screen! Thanks OP, nabbed a delivered one from JB.

    • +1

tell me about it , i tried to convince myself i don't need another one for the bedroom , but the oz-bargainer's instinct kicked in overruled my clicky finger…now looking forward to black Friday deals lol…

  • Didn't need another assistant…Only reason I got one is because I have a ring 2 and this is cheaper than a chime…I have google display but of course they aren't compatible cuz of the alexa vs google home assistant war… So far every assistant I've gotten has been a freebie haha first one I've paid for…thanks OP

    • Considering buying this because of the same reason, so much better than chime for the money: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018032731-Door…

      • i got mine from JB had $13 left on a gift card and got it delivered for $5 couldnt get to a store anytime soon. Either way, cheaper than a chime and actually makes more sense since you can see who it is hahaha

        • That's right, only downside is you need to ask Alexa who's on the door to show the video, it doesn't automatically show it when the doorbell is pressed. But you can also use this as a security camera if you're away from home using the "drop in" feature which is nice.

          • @johnyBgood: yeh that bit sucks but at the very least im expecting it to ring like a door bell (which is all a stupid chime does), at the moment it relys on me having my phone with me (which is consistently on silent anyway) lol

            • @scud70: Managed to pick one from OW, but can't get the ring doorbell to work. Have you set up yours?

              • @johnyBgood: I had my echo spot shipped, will have it on Monday. I'm guessing you mean you haven't gotten the ring to work with echo spot or the ring door bell itself. I had issues with my ring door bell not connecting to wifi because it doesn't recognise anything above band 11… I'll check it out on Monday and let you know if you haven't solved it by then…

Oh and this one's for you @endotherm…. Loll!!!

                • @scud70: I had issue with the video not showing but the alerts are fine yesterday, but it did eventually worked this morning without changing any setting, could just be the signal.

                  • @johnyBgood: Aaah ok ill let you know if I got same issue or not. Could be a bug :)

                  • @johnyBgood: Could be the midnight update, I had problem video calling on Skype at first, but the next morning it was working.

            • @scud70: Seriously, you don't need to use hahaha or lol at the end of every comment you make, unless it is actually funny.
