Nice deal. Looks like a prepaid plan (it's not) but the excess data charges are sneaky. Would rather the data just run out

    • +2

It does run out, you manually add excess data.

  • -1

Excess data charged at $0.154/MB or $10/1GB, what happens if i un-select auto-recharge?
Can this stop the extra data charges??

    • +1

It runs out after 1gb. You have to manually add excess data.

      • That is good it is not automatic because that would be a nightmare.

  • Have grabbed the previous deal. Can someone please share details on how to stop the payments after 6 months (i.e once this plan expires) before they start charging full rates?

    • If you use paypal for payment, you can disable automatic payments once you finish initial registration.

      • +4

Or just change it to bpay

    • +1

      Change to bpay

      • See just above, lest you get charged anyway.

  • i think the previous deal is heaps better 4 x 28 renewals with 5gb.

    • +5

Well, I think this deal is better with the 6x28 renewals. Each to their own. I'm using it right now, but mine expires somewhere in January.

    • I just activated and the 5gb deal has a double data offer at the moment. So it's 10gb a month for 4 months, Made my day!

I'm using a similar deal in a dual sim alongside cheap 54gb/90days catch sims and it's really convenient not having to constantly port in and out.

    • How do you find catch sims? My wife's catch sim is really unreliable (no reception a lot of the time)

      • I'm in Sydney on the northern beaches and it works great. Guess it depends on your location.

  • Is there anyway for existing customers to use this deal?

    • Port out to a free Telstra sim then port back in. I'm not sure if amaysim has a cooldown period though.

      • And use a different Amaysim email.

      • Hi, I ported out to Telstra and now my number is showing as emergency calls only even though I received email from Telstra that my number was successfully ported to them. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thank you

    • Option 2 (what I do):

      • Buy a dual SIM phone.
      • Find the cheapest ongoing deal there is.
      • Port your main number to it for all incoming calls.
      • Also buy whatever dirt-cheap SIMs come up here for outgoing calls and data.
      • Keep the first SIM 'forever', but change the second SIM as often as you like.

      Option 3:

      • One SIM only - and change it as often you like. In the case of Amaysim, cancel current SIM, and sign up again using a new email address (and possibly a different CC during signup for ID verification - see my other comments here about that).
      • SMS your new phone number to everyone every 1, 4, 6 months.
      • Only people worth talking to will update your number in their phone.
      • Everything else like government and businesses will write a letter when they realise they can't get money out of you via a dead number.

      ;-D

  • My 5gb for 4 months Groupon setup as 10gb as they seem to be doubling data atm.

    • Nice! I'm about to do the port to that plan.

    • agreed…just on Belong for 6 months and i need data for next month so 1Gb plan gonna be good for me once Belong finish.

  • +2

Don't forget Amaysim referral to make it a 7×28days plan.

    • How do I get this? Can you elaborate? Thanks

      • Use an Amaysim referral link instead of the link from the groupon voucher then when you activate the delivered sim Amaysim will give you $10 credit.

        • How long do I need to wait to be able to port back in?

          • @[Deactivated]: I'm not too sure with Amaysim, as long as you use a new email address it should be fine plus you still have 3 weeks to redeem and activate.

  • -2

    i need data…

  • new amaysim customers only.

Noob question. I have only ported out a few days ago, when can I join them again with this offer?

    • As soon as your sim is active with the other carrier I'd say you'd be right to go back. I usually leave mine with the other telco a few days tho just to be sure and not look to obvious what I'm doing lol

      • As a few message back says, use a new email address when returning. It makes you look like a different person to their system. Btw, with a gmail email address you can just add a dot '.' anywhere in the first half of your email address to 'change' it, but still receive email to the same account. (Gmail ignores the dot.) e.g. [email protected] becomes [email protected], [email protected], etc.)

You may also find the Amaysim site rejects your payment if you use the same CC too soon. I was with Amaysim for 6x months, cancelled via chat, then two days later signed up for another deal by changing my email address. The site rejected my CC during the signup/verification process. I think because it was the same CC I'd used before. So you just need 2 or more CC/debit cards, and enter a different one each time so their system 'forgets' the previous one (after 30 days I expect).

  • might be a dumb question, but is BRANDNEW only for new accounts?

Also, can I immediately switch my plan to PAYG so I don't forget to change it later? Or will you give up all your remaining months of unlimited 1GB if you do that?

    • +2

You can immediately switch the plan to PAYG. You will not loose the remaining months. So if you activate the sim today on the 6x28 day Renewals and immediately switch the plan to PAYG you still will get the 6x28 day Renewals.

      • so this gets me 6months at $9

      • I found when I turned off the "auto recharge" immediately, the "included recharges" didn't get applied to my account until i turned on the "auto recharge" again. Has that changed recently?

        • Uncertain. But as people always point out, the easiest solution is to use Paypal. Then when they want to leave wait for their last month renewal/invoice to arrive stating it's been 'paid', then login to Amaysim and turn off auto renew, then login to Paypal and cancel the automatic payment.

In case some have missed it, here are the instructions again.

For those wondering on how the process works, these steps below detail the porting process from a carrier to Amaysim. An optional $2 sim from the shops can be used to speed up the process.

If you're an existing Amaysim customer and want to take advantage of this, it requires porting out of (and abandoning) Amaysim to another carrier, like Telstra, then back into Amaysim. The purpose of this process is be considered as a new customer, all while retaining your phone number. I recommend porting to Telstra, since their process is fairly quick and painless. Their Sim cards are also free from their website, which I recommending stockpiling a few to keep them handy. If you're not an existing Amaysim customer, skip this step.

Purchase that Groupon code and find a referral code (mod: referral solicitation removed, use referral system). This will give both the referrer and referee $10 credit each. Once that unique link is clicked on, select the relevant plan (1GB, 5GB, etc.) and continue.

Sign up to a new Amaysim account. To be safe, use a new email address. The rest (name, address, payment method) can be the same.

During checkout, select previous provider and phone number, and at the end, apply the Groupon Code in the "Promo Code" box. This will bring the plan to $0, since this was already purchased on Groupon.

Enter a payment method, which is usually a credit card. But don't worry, this can be removed later. Then, submit and complete the order.

Go on Live Chat and request the plan to be activated on a $2 Amaysim sim instead. This is used to speed up the process and avoid the default 5-day mail delivery of a Sim. When prompted, provide them with the Sim card number and make sure the porting occurs with the $2 Sim. I believe there’s a way of also activating via a link in your account, but I haven’t tried this. If you are happy to wait however, skip this step.

While the porting is in progress, which usually takes a few hours, log into the newly-made account and change the payment method to BPay. This is found somewhere in the settings page (location of that differs between devices). With Amaysim's payment system, a valid payment method is required for the plan to auto-renewal every 28-days/month/billing cycle (despite the whole thing costing $0), hence the use of BPay as a placeholder.

Wait for an email to confirm the number has ported over and we're done.

    • Thanks for the info. How long do we need to wait after porting to Telstra? Is there any waiting period? I'm using amay sim currently.

Edit: Looks like we can port after successful porting to other carrier from the previous comments. Thanks.

    • With the BPAY part, read my comments above folks.

      • Followed your trail of comments and I conclude:

TL:DR - Turn off Auto-Renewal during the last month as well.

I found that porting to Telstra a few days before expiry negates the above anyways, since you’re moving the number out, as opposed to cancelling the service. Never had a problem otherwise.

    • +1

Also don't verify your ID until your sim arrives otherwise your sim will arrive pre-activated. And i know you already mentioned it but always change your payment type to BPAY because even when you turn off auto-renewal it can turn itself back on. So by using BPAY they won't be able to charge you.

  • Again? I recently activated another six 4 month/10GB plan SIMs from the last deal to add to my already existing (double digit) services. I'm tapping out, amaysim.

  • +1

I need the overseas calling but they never include that in these deals.

  • +2

You're only a true aus bargainer when you wait until the price drops to save a few dollars. Aussie Aussie Aussie bargain bargain bargain.

    • +1

Yeah was going to say that, it has been ~$5 for x4 renewals.
      This price isn't horrible though

      • I was planning to buy the 4 month deal but forgot and missed out. Better off with this one. Yay

  • Can you signup to Amaysim with the +x gmail trick?
Or should I create a brand new gmail account?

    • What's the +X trick?

      • Using email aliases instead of creating a new email account. I can confirm aliases work to sign up for amaysim.

  • +1

Can anybody help me out. I'm currently an Amaysim customer. I purchased this deal through Groupon. When I try to redeem the coupon Amaysim asks me for my mobile number (fine), provider and account number before they will send out a new SIM. I was planning to temporarily port over to Telstra (already got a $2 SIM) but only when I had received my new Amaysim SIM.

How do I get the new Amaysim SIM without providing details about my existing phone provider?

    Thanks

    • +1

I'm not sure if you can, as Amaysim ties the voucher to the SIM/phone number. I have had this problem before. If anyone has a solution, I would love to hear it. The only way I know of is to port out first, then redeem.

      • Ok, thanks. What's the minimum I can load onto a Telstra SIM?

      • Minimum recharge is $20 on a Telstra SIM. What a rort.

        • Why do you want to recharge the Telstra sim?

          • @Arthur Dunger: How am I supposed to use my phone without any credit? It's going to be a few days before the new Amaysim SIM arrives.

            • +1

@jelko: Ok well maybe get an Aldi sim, they are $5 in store or online and come with $5 credit included.

Or buy a Amaysim sim for $2 as suggested in this summary https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/498293#comment-8000675

              • +1

@Arthur Dunger: Thanks. Appreciate the advice. I'm a bit of a noob with this telco hopping caper :)

                • +1

@jelko: No worries, it's not much harder than recharging once you get the hang of it.

If you're in a hurry then buying the $2 Amaysim sim from Coles/Woolworths is prob your cheapest option seeing as you already have a Telstra sim to port out with.

  • +1

It's coming up with an error whenever i try to buy the sim using the voucher through amaysim. Do i need to port out first before i can buy the sim?
