  • How long to get the dim card or can you go buy one somewhere? Thanks

    • Usually about 5 days (they get sent as a regular letter) or buy one for $2 at the shops. Read the instructions below for more detail.

  • good for new accounts

Slight tweak on these instructions, enjoy.

For those wondering on how the process works, these steps below detail the porting process from a carrier to Amaysim. Before getting started, buy an optional $2 Amaysim sim from the shops, which be used to speed up the process. Also, get a $2 Telstra sim if you’re porting from Amaysim.

If you're an existing Amaysim customer and want to take advantage of this, it requires porting out of (and abandoning) Amaysim to another carrier (like Telstra), then back into Amaysim. The purpose of this process is be considered as a new customer, all while retaining your phone number. I recommend porting to Telstra, since their process is fairly quick and painless. Their Sim cards are also free from their website, which I recommending stockpiling a few to keep them handy. If you're not an existing Amaysim customer, skip this step.

Purchase that Groupon code and find a referral code (there’s a link which leads to a random OzBargainer‘s referral code, but I’m on mobile ATM, so I’ll link it later). This will give both the referrer and referee $10 credit each. Once that link is clicked on, select the relevant plan (1GB, 5GB, etc.) and continue.

Sign up to a new Amaysim account. To be safe, use a new email address. The rest (name, address, payment method) can be the same.

During checkout, select previous provider and phone number, and at the end, apply the Groupon Code in the "Promo Code" box. This will bring the plan to $0, since this was already purchased on Groupon.

Enter a payment method, which is usually a credit card. But don't worry, this can be removed later. Then, submit and complete the order.

Go on Live Chat and request the plan to be activated on a $2 Amaysim sim instead. This is used to speed up the process and avoid the default 5-day mail delivery of a Sim. When prompted, provide them with the Sim card number and make sure the porting occurs with the $2 Sim. I believe there’s a way of also activating via a link in your account, but I haven’t tried this. If you are happy to wait however, skip this step.

While the porting is in progress, which usually takes a few hours, log into the newly-made account and change the payment method to BPay. This is found somewhere in the settings page (location of that differs between devices). With Amaysim's payment system, a valid payment method is required for the plan to auto-renewal every 28-days/month/billing cycle (despite the whole thing costing $0), hence the use of BPay as a placeholder.

Wait for an email to confirm the number has ported over and we're done.

    • What part did you tweak?

      • +1

To buy the SIM cards before starting the whole thing. Someone thought it was somewhat vague, so I cleared it up.

Damn didn't see the refer a friend bit, missed out on the extra $10 credit. 😬

Would love to see a deal for 10GB/mnth

    • +1

i would be happy with 3gb/mnth.

  • Whaaat I paid $7.96 for this deal a couple of days ago… sigh, should've waited lol

    • +2

Oh yeah. You could have saved a big sum of $000000.99000000000

Thanks, dealbot - just returned to Australia after a while away and needed a cheap phone deal to get me going again :)
    Back up and running now!

  • Thanks OP, have to port after reading about belong accounts being suspended after 'referring a friend', so happy to port to Amaysim at this price

  • Can one not use the existing Amaysim online account (would have been created sometime in the past) to activate and port into Amaysim if they aren't a current Amaysim customer? I am just curious as the comment from Silverrat23 suggests to open an account with a new email address - I assume it's for the people who are with Amaysim and want to port out for a short time and port back in.

    • +2

By new, it means porting in from another provider or activating a new number. I have used existing email and amaysim account previously and was still considered a 'new' customer.

      • Sounds good then. No need to create a new account with a different email address.

  • Thanks DB, grabbed one for the spare/emergency phone

  • Could someone please clarify this deal? Do I get all 6x 28 day renewals for just $6.97 (as the post suggests) i.e. six renewals for a total price of $6.97? Or is it $6.97 for each 28 day renewal?
I find the wording a little ambiguous, and when I go to the deal, an ad comes up covering the wording. Thanks

    • $6.97 for the 6 months like $1 a month.

    • $6.97 for the whole 6 months, not $6.97 per month.

  • Is a credit card required to be put on file on activation? If so, can it be easily deleted once activated?

I read horror stories of amaysim charging people the normal recharge amount for 2nd month onwards and want to avoid this.

    • Is a credit card required to be put on file on activation? If so, can it be easily deleted once activated?

Yes. After signing up and logging into the new account, change it to BPay.

  • once my current one runs out and I cancel, can I just buy another one?

    • Yes.

What I do instead is to port to Telstra a few days before expiry and sign up to Amaysim again. Of course, it requires a deal to be conveniently available 4/6/x months down the track.

  • If I burn through 1GB of data sooner than 28 days can I activate the next 28 day cycle or do I have to buy extra data for $10 per GB?

    • +1

      The later!
