This is worst reception then my previous Vodafone prepaid deal. I had nearly 3x the black spots of no reception

    • +9

Wouldn't that be attributed to Optus more than anything else

      • my optus prepaid has no drop outs like this

  • +2

Hopefully they bring back the 5GB deal

  • +3

$4.97 for 168 days if you can live with the 1GB cap.
    $0.83 per renewal.
    That's impressive indeed.

    Hasn't been $4.97 for almost 8 months

    • +3

Nice! I just need it for class and texts so this is crazy decent!

    • +3

Just to use as a spare number to deal with time wasters on scumtree already worth it!

      • same here, Damn those time wasters.

  • +1

Bought it for $6.97 a few days ago :(

    • +3

Boo hoo. You're paying 33 cents extra a month. Think about what you could do with all that money.

  • Great price - thanks TA!

  • "Excess data charged at $0.154/MB or $10/1GB"

So this is prepaid so no excess data charges - right? I mean this is not automatic and would have to be added manually?

Instructions’ now mobile-friendly (for copying and pasting).

For those wondering on how the process works, these steps below detail the porting process from a carrier to Amaysim. Before getting started, buy an optional $2 Amaysim sim from the shops, which be used to speed up the process. Also, get a $2 Telstra sim if you’re porting from Amaysim.

If you're an existing Amaysim customer and want to take advantage of this, it requires porting out of (and abandoning) Amaysim to another carrier (like Telstra), then back into Amaysim. The purpose of this process is be considered as a new customer, all while retaining your phone number. I recommend porting to Telstra, since their process is fairly quick and painless. Their Sim cards are also free from their website, which I recommending stockpiling a few to keep them handy. If you're not an existing Amaysim customer, skip this step.

Purchase that Groupon code and find a referral code (click the following link to get a referral page from a random OzBargainer - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/api/referral/13 ). This will give both the referrer and referee $10 credit each. Once that link is clicked on, select the relevant plan (1GB, 5GB, etc.) and continue.

Sign up to a new Amaysim account. To be safe, use a new email address. The rest (name, address, payment method) can be the same.

During checkout, select previous provider and phone number, and at the end, apply the Groupon Code in the "Promo Code" box. This will bring the plan to $0, since this was already purchased on Groupon.

Enter a payment method, which is usually a credit card. But don't worry, this can be removed later. Then, submit and complete the order.

Go on Live Chat and request the plan to be activated on a $2 Amaysim sim instead. This is used to speed up the process and avoid the default 5-day mail delivery of a Sim. When prompted, provide them with the Sim card number and make sure the porting occurs with the $2 Sim. I believe there’s a way of also activating via a link in your account, but I haven’t tried this. If you are happy to wait however, skip this step.

While the porting is in progress, which usually takes a few hours, log into the newly-made account and change the payment method to BPay. This is found somewhere in the settings page (location of that differs between devices). With Amaysim's payment system, a valid payment method is required for the plan to auto-renewal every 28-days/month/billing cycle (despite the whole thing costing $0), hence the use of BPay as a placeholder.

Wait for an email to confirm the number has ported over and we're done.

    • +1

Thanks for the detailed instructions - what is the point of changing the payment method to BPay?

      • +5

Just so they don’t charge your card if you forget to renew at the very end.

That, and some people (like me) prefer not to not have any card payments attached to services like these.

        • OK Thanks got it now - With BPay as the preferred payment option the user would have to manually renew.

    • Just went through the process of activating the $2 Amaysim Sim. Porting the the free Telstra Sim took 10 minutes! Now waiting for the number to be ported back to Amaysim. Forgot the refer a friend part though!

    • Thanks for detailed instructions. How do you activate all the 6 codes and get them to stack consecutively for 6 months?

      • +1

The 6 x 28 days is automatically applied. You don't have to do anything after the initial setup.

      • +1

You don’t get 6 codes. The plan will auto-renew 5 times (as per deal) for free, since it was already purchased from Groupon.

Once the plan has been activated, there’s no need to do anything else until the very end (either porting out or sticking with Amaysim).

        • +2

1 important thing you still need to do is to remove auto renew from your credit card, update your profile to bpay and remove your CC details.

    • Since the plan is $9.95 I think you can remove this bit from the instructions

'Purchase that Groupon code and find a referral code (click the following link to get a referral page from a random OzBargainer - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/api/referral/13 ). This will give both the referrer and referee $10 credit each. Once that link is clicked on, select the relevant plan (1GB, 5GB, etc.) and continue.'

as referal is min $10 as per this
'Referrer will receive $10 credit after referee makes first purchase of $10 or more within 72 hours.'

      • +2

You have misunderstood the instructions. The referral bonus is through Amaysim, not Groupon. The minimum purchase is not applicable.

        • ohhh, my bad.

    • "I believe there’s a way of also activating via a link in your account, but I haven’t tried this".

Has anybody successfully done this ($2 sim) because it's after 6pm and live chat is not open until tomorrow.

  • +1

Bought last night for $9.25 :(

  • Does this one support international roaming?Thx

    • Nope. Only the PAYG pack does.

    • +1

Yes, it allows for international roaming. I'm using their previous version of the same deal. While roaming to receive a call or even notification of a call you would have to add some balance other than your plan, incoming text messages work without recharge too.

      • So if I only need the incoming text messages, I don’t have to top up extra money?

  • So this is same like belong mobile can only be used within Australia?

    • -2

belong is for the dink who identifies as "it"

amaysim is for the ones who teach Scottish Jews how to save money…

  • Good for spare/work phone. How long can I keep the number for after 6 months and no re-charge? Is it 365 days? Just need it to receive calls

    • Yes 365 days.

  • do not use chrome such a cent splitting system needs basic explorer

  • Can this go in an iPad?

  • -1

how long do i need to wait till im not a customer anymore?

    • +3

According to silverrat's instructions above you can port out then back in on the same day.

    • Did you even read the instructions?

  • Will this work in a phone locked to Optus?

    • Technically it should as it uses optus network.

    • +1

unfortunately if its locked to Optus it won't work. You can get your phone unlocked for free if its older than 2 years old. Just have to give Optus a call for the network unlocking code

      • +1

Works fine on an Optus locked phone. I and other family members are using amaysim on locked phones without any issues.

  • +1

I purchased a couple of hours ago. Just got confirmation that shopback tracked also, so total price: $4.72

  • +1

Do you think it's likely a deal similar to this will be around in 2 months time for amaysim? I've got $20 left on my Belong plan that I would like to use first. :)

    • +3

Deal usually comes up every six months or so, check Ozbargain history

      • Cheers, realised I should after I commented. All good, will wait.

  • I have 2 of these unused. PM me.
