  • This is shocking…

Beat me to it by 5 mins. Have reported mine as a dupe.

    • I was surprised noone had posted it yet :)

  • Good experience with Powershop? I'm in NSW. The reviews don't look great but then again, so many energy companies have poor reviews.

    • +3

I've been with them for about half a year now and I have no complaints and I love the data I get from their app. Thumbs up from me.

    • When I was with them the pricing structure was confusing and didn't work for me. I am with Tango now and still in 2yr price lock contract. Much better and dollars infront.

      • This

      • I think it comes down to each area, Tango are a lot more expensive than P'Shop for me.

        • +1

Yes, I think you are right. Tango used to be the cheapest with 2yr locked contract, then changed to one yr fixed price contract. But looked last night and now not cheapest and but still have 1yr locked contracts. Globird is the cheapest. But yes, depends on your distributer which is based on your location.

Been with them for half a year as well - no complaints and them being carbon neutral is a nice bonus.

  • +1

is it worth just switch for the bonus? and then switch back if it turns out to be more expensive than Globird (which I am with right now)

    • +2

I do it all the time, whenever the current is no longer the cheapest I made the switch

      • +1 it's easy enough and no connection/disconnection fees

    • and then switch back if it turns out to be more expensive

Like most consumers, according to the ACCC, you have no idea what the (profanity) you are buying so you're waiting to get the bill to work out if it's cheaper or not.

The free market is a joke.

you’ll receive the first instalment the first day of becoming a Powershop customer, the second instalment 90 days after becoming a customer, the third instalment 184 days after becoming a customer and the final instalment 275 days after becoming a customer (Instalments).

Well you need to stay for 275 days to get the full $150/$50

  • What about only gas? What is the cash back?

    • Its $150 for Power
or $200 for Power and Gas (Vic only)

There is no Gas Credit if you do not bundle them both.

  • Good deal and great timing. Thanks

Daily supply charge for my address:
    89.471 cents/day (after 15% discount)
    General Usage
    23.171 cents/KwH

    Origin supply charge:
    76.09 cents/day
    General Usage:
    24.87 c/kWh

    • Assuming you've done the maths for your situation? Even though the usage charge is lower, you've got a higher fixed daily charge.

What state are you in? I'm on 92.63c/day with Powershop.. might need to talk to them

      • Yeah the numbers make this deal slightly better than my current deal with Red Energy which is hiking their prices soon. I'm in NSW.

  • I am happy to switch my gas if anyone can please clarify the Gas credit…

    • +1

      Its $150 for Power
or $200 for Power and Gas (Vic only)

There is no Gas Credit if you do not bundle them both.

This is what most are doing now, Red Energy don't offer discounts on Gas now anymore, you can only get gas discounted if you have power with them also.

  • I've been with powershop for 4 years now. I haven't looked at prices that much but find it above board. AFAIK they are a fully renewable energy company and that is a factor for me as opposed to going to lowest cost provider.

If someone can point to a renewable energy company offering better rates than power shop, I'd be happy to switch based on pure dollars and competition.

  • How does their packs work? I see Mega pack and Power saver pack. Is it cap price or discount? I don’t have smart metre at my house. Their current price without packs is higher than my AGL discounted price. I just want to know how to get better price with their packs. I’m in NSW. Thanks

    • Its sort of a pre-purchase thing - you buy their packs as credit to your bill. If you don't buy the packs, you will get direct debited the auto-pay price, which is the non-discounted price. The Megapack I think is a 15% discount, while the standard power saver I think is 12% or something along those lines

  • Globird is the cheapest in eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

    • Tango is still cheaper for me, may be it is due to TOU plan (peak/off-peak)

      • Tango are electricity only though.
I combine Tango with Globird but will need to do the math to check if it's still worth it compared to the rebate offers

  • anyone want to refer me?

    • You can use the random referral link above or you can PM me if you need any help.

  • Assuming these guys are price competitive (and they look quite good on https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/ for my circumstances) is this the best discount/cashback/referral currently on offer?

    • It's usually only a $75 bonus from memory, so it's definitely a step up on that. They do this $150 every now and then

  • Ok exploring the crazy world that is Mega Pack's etc, and I have one initial requirement.

Mega Pack is essentially the same as a 15% off discount you might get with another provider, but only for a set amount they they calculate based on your previous usage. I get that.

But, what about when you initially join? Can you pre-pay 3 months of your expected usage at 15% off ?

    • Talked with PS - you can prepay the expected amount up to 3 months ahead with Mega Pack. That locks in rate as well as discount for that time.
Asked as often am away, so don't want to deal with Bill then.

They notify you of actual cost 2 days ahead of Bill. So can buy a pack then. But if you forget - they charge the full amount to payment system set up by you, about 13 days later.

  • Signed up today using random referral. As current bill is about $200/yr with similar discount (no solar but receive concession), $150 credit will be nice😊

  • I can never find my rates with Powershop.

Does anyone else have this issue?

    • It's in the app? "Menu" -> "Your Rates"

  • Can we combine this offer with cashreward cashback $70 for electricity?

    • Doubt it.
On CR: This Powershop plan is offered through Econnex - a comparison site.

You can't use more than 1 referral (from a "mate" using their referral code OR via Econnex comparison site).

This Referral code has to be entered directly on PowerShop site.
CR signs you up to PowerShop through the Econnex system, not PowerShop site.

Econnex get a payment for referring you to PowerShop. They give you back part of that payment.

In my dealings with Econnex, they've been pushing PowerShop, so likely the kickback is good for them.
Had so much trouble, Econnex Rep sent me $50 of Woolies gift cards to make up! Best to avoid!

Worried I had missed out on extra $ when I signed up last week😉

      • Thank you for detailed clarification 😁

        • It's detailed because I was curious😉

  • Changing to Powershop rn, just had AGL try to call and get me back with some incomprehensible Asian nearly ordering me not to change and everything I said to her was wrong. Hung up on her. Definitely not going back to those assholes.

    • +1

They didn't want you to go! Sounds like it was time to change.

Called PowerShop 2 weeks back. Answered quickly. Got local who uses PowerShop. Very helpful. Impressed me.

Left Origin because took ages to answer, they stuffed up change of account name & change of plan start date. Took second 45 minute call to correct their mistakes. Glad to leave.
