No difference between the versions other than plug. WD will send you the AU plug when requested.

        • Unsure if they'll be as forgiving with the warranty though

          • @scuderiarmani: well i have the US ones and I went to register them (bought 16TB MyBook Duo (x2 8TB drives) and they said they were not covered in this region.

            • @roh008: Claim with Amazon?

            • @roh008: I think I had that problem too.

Only two drives I had issues were local luckily, both had bad sectors. Both 8tb Reds. Both in a WD NAS that I had turn on and off every night….

So naturally I keep my new Synology on 24/7. Seems happy so far.

              • @scuderiarmani: i have a N40L which has been on for 6 years so far and only one HDD failure touch wood. Currently it has one of the MyBook Duo 8TB drives (white label) and a Ironwolf 8TB drive too.. let's see how they go, temps are unfortunately a little warm occasionally.

                • @roh008: I figure the on off repeatedly probably did it. They otherwise lead a very stress free life with low Plex use.

Still have a 16tb My Book Duo as a backup though, don't care for RAID on the NAS.

          • @scuderiarmani: if you're shucking warranty goes out the window anyway

            • @[Deactivated]: not necessarily. As they usually request you to remove the HDD and send it back anyway not the whole my Book

You underestimate the cost of laziness :) Just as the JB one, its a valid offer for local stock out of the box and also quicker delivery (As the US one seems to be a 2 week wait or so?)

        • Where do you email to get an AU plug?

These are coming down quite nicely in price. Prices were quite stagnant for a long period of time until the last 1-2 years.

20tb next year… SSDs falling, it's about time.

    • Cheaper to buy this and a xiaomi powerboard.

    • THIS is a much better deal!

As I explained for those that can't wait 1-4 weeks and want definitive warranty go locally sourced. Otherwise I agree go for the cheaper one.

Can't compare overseas with local stock
