Radeon™ RX Vega M GH … Can handle AAA games at 60-70 frames at Ultra high settings

What are you basing that on? From a quick google, this card appears slower than a GTX 970. From this page, I'm seeing:

    Borderlands 3 @ 1080p on High: 31.5fps avg
    Borderlands 3 @ 1080p on Ultra: 21.9fps avg
    Control @ 1080p on High: 24fps avg
    Anthem @ 1080p on High: 10fps avg

    etc etc

    • I think that you could achieve 60-70fps in older AAA games, but yes it's a bit ambiguous.

      • +2

Til My Raspberry Pi can also run AAA games

    • Well you beat me to it haha

    • What? These are the known specs for Hades Canyon NUC8I7HVK which you can check on numerous testing sites:

      FOR ULTRA SETTINGS at 1080p:

      Witcher 3 - 57 FPS
      PUBG - 64 FPS
      Overwatch - 92 FPS
      Cyrsis 3 - 74 FPS
      Battlefield 1 - 63 FPS
      Fortnite - 81 FPS
      Apex - 77 FPS

      • So nothing really demanding lol.

          but Crysis …

Most of the AAA games can be seen tested in this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cEygm1NRp8&t=1753s

Not defending this product but for a computer that you can put inside your jacket, it's remarkable performance. It performs close to a gtx1060 according to the Cine3D benchmarks.

  • I'm a fan of the NUCs, but for portable/compact gaming value I believe you'll most likely be better off with a laptop (sporting a GTX 1650 or above)

    • Or just build your own small form factor. Get a nice dan case and you’re laughing.

      • +1

Yes a mini-itx build would be nice. A bit less compact/portable than this or a laptop, and wiring & sizing can be a slight pain, but cheaper and having the option to upgrade parts is a great advantage.

        • Would nano-itx work? Or that doesn't really take proper graphics cards?

    • The problem with mobile CPUs and GPUs for gaming is that the manufacturer has many ways to restrict performance, depending on what type of device they're making, so that they can meet performance, battery or temprature targets.

This leads to large variability in benchmarks, particularly sustained performance benchmarks. Demanding games require sustained performance.

So unfortunately many publications are doing five minute gaming benchmarks which are basically pointless because performance can be limited after 15 minutes at X usage, or after X battery drain or temperatures which are only reached after 15 minutes. There are myriads of ways for performance to be limited to achieve the desired outcomes.

If a mobile device is made for gaming presumably the throttling will be handled appropriately but if it isn't then in many cases you are going to be dissapointed.

      • Yes, generally you'll get a significant performance hit if trying to game while on battery, and thermal performance for mobile devices is especially important. Good reviews will test thermal performance and will check for thermal throttling.

  • when you say AAA games in ultra with 60-70 frames. Do you mean games from 5 years ago? Cos this card is weaker than a 970 that is an 5 year old card.

      • Most of those games are old, or not even remotely demanding games? Why are you defending this?

For the same money, someone could easily build a 1660ti/Ryzen 2600 build with a SFF case, like a Dan A4, or Sliger SM550. And get a 50% increase in power.

Not sure why there are negative votes for my comments. I think it's very inaccurate to compare it to a 970x card as the computer is built by AMD/Intel to enhance gaming performance despite using a weaker GPUs. You can check other youtube videos for reference

          • @RainerWolfram: You're getting downvoted because the games you are stating are old, or not intensive in any way shape or form. That Youtube video is showing old games too. Your explanation and information is misleading.

  • +2

You say much cheaper than mac mini, but have to buy ssd and ram and an operating system too

  • bought it a year and half ago, $1395.

  • +1

Imagine buying this PC. Then imagine how much better a mini itx build for $1500 would be.

    • +1

Got one of these and can say I prefer them over my other mini ITX builds for every day PC use. It's just way smaller and quieter. Would not recommend if you're primarily using it to play games as a mini-ITX + decent GTX card would out perform this.

      • -2

So to summarise your own assessment of this PC:

        Pros:
        Quiet
        Small
        Cool

        Cons:
        Low performance
        Expensive
        Pretty much a gimmick

I'm moving internationally for a year next April. The Hades Canyon seems purpose built for me.

    • -3

Imagine thinking that a mini-itx pc put together in a few hours will be better than a custom mini pc engineered and built from the ground up by a multi billion dollar corporation.

      • +2

You’re joking right? Custom self built pc’s are consistently better than prebuilt stuff like this.

        • Generally speaking custom built PC's are always better, but not in this instance.

Linus Tech Tips did a great video on this outlining all the unique features of the Hades Canyon NUC.

Fact is there's no other custom or pre-built lunch box sized PC that packs as much punch and I/O as this does.

      • Ok look I saw a few reviews the pc is kind of cool if you want to travel with it. That is the only real application that makes sense if you dont just use a laptop like most people, or you need a two pcs for some reason.

  • "This code can't be applied. You can only use it via: computer browser, eBay app for iPhone, mobile browser, eBay app for Android, eBay app for iPad."

I'm using Firefox on a Windows 10 desktop.

    I think this $700 R5 3500x GTX 1660 build outperforms the posted deal…

    • That's an Apples to Potatoes comparison lol

This is a custom engineered small factor PC to be small, quite and cool with satisfactory performance.

      • there are plenty of mini-pcs and NUC's that are also small. the only thing special about this is the CPU, which intel and the manufacturer are charging a hefty premium for, as mentioned below you can get laptops that have better performance/ratio

  • +2

I got mine for $1196 from tech mall on eBay during one of the 20% off sales many months ago.

I replaced my desktop with this and it's been a delight!

If you're looking for a tiny power house PC you won't find anything better than this.

Everything on this is over engineered and over the top,
    * Custom Core i7-8809G with 100W TDP - Unlocked CPU, GPU with integrated HBM memory all in one chip! what?
    * Vapour chamber cooling with dual blowers
    * Custom motherboard with more ports than most full sized desktops
    * 6 display outputs that supports 4K simultaneously

    • Wow 100W TDP.. I'd imagine this thing to be pretty noisy

  • +5

I'm a fan of SFF PC but gonna have to pass on this. Any decent laptop with 1660Ti and a recent CPU will blow this thing out of the water.
Like this for $400 more will get you a 9750H, 1660Ti, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD, Windows and like 1.5x-2x gaming performance. Not to mention a screen n keyboard.
