If you do this online good luck getting a reply.

I asked them online to price match camera pros 24105 flash sale at 1499 and got no reply within 48 hours. At least reply to say no? Basic manners?

I’ve got the RX100V, and in terms of IQ, there’s not a lot of difference between the IV and the V. For anyone with any kind of understanding and appreciation for photography, this 4 year old camera will blow any smartphone out of the water in terms of image quality, image data, versatility and flexibility. Computational photography is amazing, but a tiny sensor and tiny glass only go so far, particularly when it comes to video and the computational wizardry is eliminated.

      • I've got this camera. I love travelling with it. But even at 1.8, due to the sensor size it's hard to get decent bokeh. My full frame camera at f/4 blows it out of the water. But it's massive and heavy in comparison, so it's not for all situations. But a decent smartphone algorithm can produce more bokeh than this (digital bokeh, not optical bokeh).

You’re comparing a compact one inch sensor with a fixed lens to a full frame (not even aps-c, just skip that lol)? What full frame would you compare this to at a similar price? Gen 1 Sony A7 gets somewhat close, but thats just the body. Doesn’t seem in any way a reasonable comparison, of course your full frame is better! What is your full frame, and what did it cost though?

Artificial bokeh has a long way to go on smartphones, both in implementation and edge detection. Not to mention bokeh can’t be faked with video (Samsung tried with the Note 10, it looks terrible).

          • @aja12: I agree with you. Just making the point that this doesn't get good bokeh, in case people assume that f/1.8 looks similar across cameras.

[Update]. Realised I meant to reply to post below in relation to bokeh and f/1.8.

        • Artificial bokeh is ugly and obvious

    • It's the RX100 with f1.8 lens and 1 inch sensor. Optically no phone can match it, although many phones can fake blur the back ground. RX100V is the perfected version with f1.8 lens. V1 & VII they chose a slower lens with larger zoom. Something many people never wanted

This is probably true for many people.

However it is not true for the people who are in the market for an RX100.

I almost bought it but came across unresolved battery drain complaints in reviews https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-RX100-Digital-Vlo…

Sony had removed the complaints from their site but an archive still exists https://web.archive.org/web/20180211145951/http://community.…

The camera hardware issues persist from initial RX100 to DSCRX100M4/DSC-RX100 IV. Apparently "Sony charges a flat rate of $400!!! to fix these problems". Pass…

    • +2

Wouldn't let that sway you. I would assume most RX100 owners (I have two) haven't had any hardware issues.

    • That is unfortunate. Offically The model IV has much better life than the version that came after it, prob due to the huge upgrade in auto focusing of V5 tghat required more power. But if discharge problem is true, it's worse

    • Had the MK1 since it came out and recently picked up the MK4.
Haven't had issues with either but I did read the MK4 gets super toasty and can turn itself off when recording in 4K (can't remember for how long though) - you have to wait 10 or so mins before it turns back on.

    Thanks for posting.

Ordered, have wanted an RX100 for a long time. This is 50% off JB hi-fi prices.

  • Good price but expired

  • Video Pro on eBay regularly is included in those 20% off deals (including at the time of posting this). Not quite as cheap as this, but pretty damn good prices. Got a MkVA for around $850, and they even have the new MkVII for $1,480 (RRP $1,999) with the discount.
