  • Good find

Good price but still 800x480, they need to be 1280x720 at least..

    • -1

      why?

      • +5

I like my icons in highdef

      • -1

Use it and see, you get higher res screens in tablets for far less, it's just the manufacturers holding off better displays for their highest end models that cost more than an iPad Air with far less tech.

        • i have one of these headunits and never think "they need to be 1280x720 at least"

due to the way carplay and android auto works - they can't use the higher resolution anyway

          • +4

@jztilly: Don't want to sound bias, but that's exactly right. These units are intended to be used through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. These two systems can't use more than 800x480 (at least for now). So a screen with any higher resolution would just be a waste for their intended purpose.

With iOS13 and Android updates, their auto counterparts are being updated and upgraded, but we won't start seeing the higher-res screens coming to the mid-pack units until 2020 at least.

Using this unit day-to-day with Android Auto, you don't ever sit there wishing the screen was in higher res. At least none of us do…

Have a 800 x 480 Android in the car, and absolutely no issues with that resolution. It's so far away from your eyes you don't really notice the pixels. Looks a good price for a good package TBH.

      • -1

Have both 800x480 and 1280x720 in my 2 cars and 720p is FAR nicer to read text on.

    • +2

Headunits are still lacking in this aspect, unlike smartphones. Even high end ones still have this resolution

  • Thanks, bought one. Should be a nice upgrade to my car.

  • is it possible to install this on a mazda 3 2011? the media player isnt standard

    • +1

Have a look if that's your oem style

      • cool thanks, looks like another $180 for the installation kit

  • I have one of these, would recommend. The screen is fantastic and very responsive.

  • Can anyone confirm the dimensions is 178x100x139mm(W X H X D), I'm mainly concerned about the height

    • It's a double DIN standard. From the manual:

      Dimensions: Approx. 178 mm × 100 mm × 139 mm (7 1/8 in × 4 in × 5 1/2 in) (w/h/d)

      Mounting dimensions: Approx. 182 mm × 111 mm × 120 mm (7 1/4 in × 4 3/8 in × 4 3/4 in) (w/h/d)

I'm guessing the mounting dimensions is with the brackets etc installed

  • Great price!

  • Bought! Thanks for sharing ;-)

  • Been tossing up if I should go the for the $1000 Alpine Halo9 but for this price I couldn't resist. Thanks.

    • Get this one, and once the XAV-AX8000 is released here, you can use the existing harnesses :)

      • Good point. I have had an eye on it since it's release but who knows when it will come to Australia. It would be nice if they keep the price down on the AX8000 too. (But I doubt it.)

  • Thanks OP! do you know if they do installs? and how much?

    • They do but not sure about the price. Expect at least 2 hours labour

    • Hi guys! Installation for this unit starts at around $100, or $150 to keep your steering wheel controls. You'll have to contact the store directly via phone and talk to the install team for a vehicle-specific quote, as nowadays, adaptors and harnesses, etc. change and each installation is different. Budgeting around 2-hours for install is about right.

  • Just made an order and it's "On Hold".
Reckon I'll get it this week?

    • You sure will my dude - in fact, send an email through to [email protected] and I'll make sure it gets sent tomorrow morning.

      • Champion! Done! Thanks.

      • No sign of this getting shipped yet :(

      • Any chance this will go on sale again soon? :)

  • does this support wireless android auto?
I'm trying to find a list of headunits that do but its proving quite hard.

    • +1

At the moment, you're looking $800-$900+ for a wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay unit my dude. That's still a very premium feature.

      • Hi Rep, any chance you could do this deal again? Would love to buy if possible!

    • My research is not updated, but last time I checked AA wireless is still not perfectly implemented and drains your battery fast. I'll give it another year for it to become mainstream

      • That's spot on. Pioneer and Kenwood are doing some exciting things in this space. Watch them!

  • Can you get offline maps for this one?

    • +1

Just, just make your maps available offline in Google Maps

      • That doesnt quite work if you drive long distances in many areas with no mobile coverage. I need preloaded maps for NSW at least as I cant just download the whole state.

    • Thanks for the question! You can't get Maps loaded onto this unit, as it, itself, doesn't actually have GPS. It uses your Android or iPhone. As Max said, you can get Google Maps on your phone to download offline maps. With this unit, it's the only option I'm afraid. You can get other units that have GPS built-in (and therefore 100% offline maps), but not at this end of price table.

  • Is this a capacitive or resistive screen?

    • It's a resistive touch screen.

  • Pretty interested to figure out how I can mount the reverse camera on the back of my 2013 Mazda 3 Hatch… the back of the car is a continuous piece of painted molded plastic

    • Does it have plate number light? If you don't mind waiting and don't want to drill any hole, you can get one of this (choose the holder only option) replacing your original light cover

      • That is a great option! I'll check it out tonight. Cheers!

  • Hey guys, I'm not familiar with these, would someone mind helping me these questions?

    • With eBay harness, can this fit 2009-ish VW Golf, or 2006-ish Subaru Impreza/Outback, or 2009-ish Lancer?
    • As this relies on phone, what happens when I've no reception, if I pre-download Google map offline, would that integrates and work seemlessly then?
    • I've no capacity to install it myself, what's the realistic price to get this hooked up with steering controls & camera, I'm in Sydney.

    Thanks heaps!

    • +1

can this fit 2009-ish VW Golf, or 2006-ish Subaru Impreza/Outback, or 2009-ish Lancer

      VW Golf mk5 or mk6

      Subaru impreza or outback

      Lancer

when I've no reception, if I pre-download Google map offline, would that integrates and work seemlessly then

Yes, the map will be shown and gps works offline

what's the realistic price to get this hooked up with steering controls & camera, I'm in Sydney

Will leave this to the rep :)

      • That's super kind of you to provide all the links, thanks you for that, and thank you for clarifying, really appreciate it! 🙂

  • Is this a Black friday deal? Just wondering how long it is running for?

    • What's up friend? This deal, plus all our Black Friday deals last until Sunday night 11:59:59 PM

      • Perfect thanks - just trying to confirm if the camera supplied fits with my car

        • It is a universal camera… so it would.

          • @BankstownSoundMarine: Can you confirm it's the Pioneer RCAM2? Do you have the Pioneer RCAMAVIC instead? (the version without guide lines)

            • @rski: Yes, it is the RCAM2 - we aren't offering the RCAMAVIC.

              • @BankstownSoundMarine: Thanks for the prompt reply. With the RCAM2 would there be any way to adjust the guide lines if the cam is not placed in the centre of the car? I'm sure it won't be a major issue anyway.

                • @rski: I'm really not sure, so I'm leaning towards no. However, if we're installing it - we've got a foolproof way of ensuring centre placement (it's a string and works 100% of the time haha).

                  • @BankstownSoundMarine: Hi again. I ended up ordering one of these but the free shipping code you had appeared to end early. 🙁

                    • @rski: Nevermind. All fixed up.

                      • @rski: There was a free shipping code?? smacks head

                        • @theguyrules: Yep it was 'freefriday'. Ended Sunday night.

                          • @rski: Bummer. I ordered Tuesday though so I may just have been to early.
Still waiting on mine to show up however.

  • I've got an older Hyundai Elantra 2010 SLX HD, and google says there are no fascia kits for Australian models. But I have no idea what parts I need - what would I need?
The built in bluetooth stereo is single DIN.

So not sure if worth buying this unit if I can't fit it!

    • +1

Yeah I think if there's no plug and play solution, it might not worth buying. You can go custom, but will be $$

  • I find these awfully confusing.

So if I jump on this deal and want to put in my Toyota Yaris, I need the head unit; plus an install kit (FP9016K) which includes the facia, wiring harness and adapters; AND a headunit harness and lead (APP9)?

And if I search for someone who can install around Adelaide, no-one seems to list prices, and almost all seem to only do installs of products you buy from them.

Am I missing something, or is replacing a head unit an absolute unnecessarily difficult head (profanity)?

    • +1

Yes, basically the install kit converts your vehicle connection to ISO. You'll also need the headunit to ISO connector, which varies depends on the headunit brand. Both can then be connected. Vehicle - ISO - your car

Try airtasker with a good review, and don't forget to use referral code from here :)

      • Thanks. You'd think this kind of stuff would be standardised and be fairly plug'n'play, but car companies I guess. I'll have a look at Airtasker.

  • Thanks picked one up.

Had been thinking of going for the Kenwood DDX919WS for my Toyota… However it's hard to justify 3x the price over this just so I don't have to have the small bezels on the side. All I really want it for is android auto and this should fit the bill :)

  • +1

Got mine today, installed it using Aerpro fascia kit. Easy install and a great upgrade! Just need to mount and wire the reverse camera, that's a Saturday job.

    • Reverse camera installed. That was far less of a fun job! Finding a reverse trigger to hook up to the head unit was a pain in the ass. But it's done now.
