NetGear Orbi RBK23 3-Pack Mesh Wi-Fi Router AC2200 $299 + $11.90 Post @ Device Deal (Price Match $284.05‬ Pickup @ Officeworks)

90

If you missed out on the RBK50 from Wireless1 for $299 as I did, this might be a good replacement. It's the cheapest price I can find on the RBK23 and is the cheapest deal on it for a while, though the discount isn't as good as the more expensive RBK50 from Wireless1.

I called officeworks (1300 633 423) to price match, and they said the warehouse is out of stock so they couldn't post it, but I could pick up from my local store which is fine because I didn't have to pay for postage.

If you're trying to decide which Orbi to get, the main differences in the RBK23 compared to the RBK50 are:

  • Smaller size: (5.6 x 2.4 x 6.6 in) compared to (6.4 x 3.1 x 8.0 in).
  • Fewer Internal Antennas: The RBK23 has 4 internal antennas compared to 6 antennas of RBK50.
  • Fewer Wired Ethernet Ports: The RBK23 has 2 Ethernet Ports while the RBK50 has 4. (one of these on the router is used to connect to your modem).
  • Wireless Backhaul speed: The RBK23 has 866Mbps backhaul speed compared to 1733Mbps of the RBK50

See this website for more detail on the differences.

It's probably good that I missed out on the Wireless1 deal because after more research I think the RBK23 is probably the better choice for me, as having 2 satellites gives better coverage than the router + single satellite in the RBK50, even though it has more antennas and is faster. Range is more important to me than speed as there are only 2 medium-light users in the house and I don't think the slightly slower speed of the RBK23 will matter.

  • Will Officeworks pricematch this???

    • Yes, that's what I did.

  • Nice find! This makes me feel bad posting the $340 deal last week haha. I returned the RBK23 kit I got last week and jumped on the the Wireless1 RBK50 deal. I only need to cover a double storeys townhouse so 2 pack of high performance units might be better than 3 pack of lesser units.

It's recommended to place the satellites/router at least 15m away from each other to avoid interference (less if it goes through different floors or through walls). So… get the appropriate kits depends on your house layout.

    • Haha all good! $340 was still a good deal and this might not have been available then. Nice work getting the RBK50 deal - it went out of stock pretty quick! Sounds like the RBK50 will be perfect for your space. The house I'm trying to cover is tricky: 3 storeys, large rooms, concrete walls. Hopefully I can cover it all with the router and 2 satellites.
