These are model Bs in case anyone is wondering.

    • +3

      • This website shows 3B+, maybe different stock though? Processor Type: MicrocontrollerRevision: Model B+
Name: 3 Model B OfficialTechnology: SBC

          That's from the About tab

          • @Zorlin: You could be right, I have no idea I just got the above info from their parent website which I listed in the description 👍

    • do you mean 3B or 3B+ ?

      thanks

      • +2

        I only saw 3B, not 3B+.

      • Looks very much like 3B, not 3B+

    • Is the Premium a 3B as well?

      • +1

By the looks of things, yes.

  • How do you know if it's 1, 2 or 4GB? All options are available to the market as I understand it. Link doesn't seem to say but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

    • +6

It's a Raspberry Pi 3B, not a 4. Only the 4 comes with different memory sizes.

      (So it'll be 1GB).

      • +1

Oh yep. Sorry my error. Brain saw a 4. It's all good. Ta.

    • It's listed.
      "Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
This board is one of the later versions of Raspberry Pi. It features theBroadcom BCM2837 SoC with a CPU speed of 1.2GHz. There is also 1GB of memorycapacity on board."

    • +1

I thought only the Pi4 came in 1/2/4GB configurations?

  • What is this one used for? Do you think 11 years old son would like to play it with?

    • +2

All sorts of things. I have a few, one for Kodi, one for FlightAware ADS-B tracking, but most importantly, one for RetroPie.

      • Ist better to play Arcade (specially if you playing with light guns) from a PC?

        • I've never tried any light gun games. I'm a fan of really old school arcade stuff, like Ghosts'n'Goblins for example.

        • +1

Lightguns only work on CRT TVs

          • @beebul: Not really, im using Aimtrack light guns on 2019 Sony 65 inch model.

for the tv size i upgraded the gun bar.

    • +1

Install Kano OS and he can learn to code.

  • Cheers, grabbed a couple for my home network

    • +1

or not. Got the charge on my credit card and tax invoice, no shipping details yet and my order history now says "You have placed no orders."

      • Update: order is there now, status is "processing", still not a good sign if they are oos

  • +4

    Awesome Value

Pick one up to have as a DNS Blocker for online Advertising

    https://pi-hole.net/

    • Just running pfblockerng now but use the pi for unifi. Cheap great devices that can be used for anything

      • +2

Out of curiosity, does setting up an ad blocker like that affect things like Cashrewards and Shopback tracking? Even on mobile?

        • +2

I've got it set up and cashback still works for me

        • It affects mine, generally the shop won't open when you click on the referrer's link. You can just disable the ad blocker.

Are there white lists to let this stuff through?

          • @Thrifty McGifty: There are so many affiliate networks involved it's easier just to have a toggle for Pi Hole.

  • +10

Didnt this mob just go into administration?

  • +5

The premium kit is $29.99. This deal should be in the title as it's much better value than the starter…

    • doesn't starter come with more stuff?

      • +5

Most people wouldn't need mouse and keyboard etc

    • +2

What's in the premium? It's sold out on both links and so we can't see anymore

  • Last time I ordered from coop they cancelled the orders.

  • +2

Curious Planet has the option for PayPal checkout, but it always takes me to the normal checkout. Anyone else having this issue?

  • So, the product code for the R-Pi in the start kit is 896-8660. The link doesn't work, but a quick Google takes me to the RS Online UK page and clearly states:

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is the first member of the third generation Raspberry Pi family. It follows on from the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B boards and came before the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+.

    And specs:

    What’s on-board?

    Memory: 1GB LPDDR2
    Ethernet: 10/100 BaseT socket

Did the price just go down to $45 instead of $52.95?

    • I think op is including shipping

      • ok cool!

  • Let's hope that deliver..

    And not ozbargained.

  • So i'm a rookie. What can I do with this? All I know is I like retro gaming…… and i could possibly get into other stuff, like coding. Would someone mind giving me some of the main things a casual could get out of this?

    • +4

Most common uses are things like Retropie for your retro gaming, installing a network-wide adblocker via pi-hole, maybe use it as a media player if you installed kodi on it, could be the brains of a smart home if you installed home assistant on it, plug a usb drive in to make it into network-wide storage like a cheapo NAS. Those are the things that get trotted out but effectively it's a little computer so if you've got the skills and it ain't toot axing then it can normally coaxed into dong whatever you fancy.

    • +1

for retro gaming i have a Pi Zero and a Pi 3B+ they work great and i use old PS3 controllers, they can be used for a lot of things the list is very very long, think of them as IOT computers that you can build yourself.. but if you know coding etc i think you can do anything you want with them :)

      • Thanks guys. Very interesting. In terms of retro gaming what systems could it actually do, or even PC games up to what kinda year etc? :)

        • +1

This is what i use (link below), retropi and i have a library of NES, SNES, Megadrive games .. SOME PS and N64 games are possible but they do hit the wall at the RASpi 3 level .. but snes games run well no issues so far. Super easy to use and you can also install Kodi and use it as a multimedia centre as well as a retro gaming … you can install linux distro's but not sure about pc games i havent tried it… maybe if they work with linux its possible (very old ones)

    Site slow for anyone?

    • +1

      Oh yes!

    • it's struggling big time. not sure if this is gonna work for me

edit: was quick using that parent company link. all ordered now - no need to create an account either

  • Parrot FPV kit is $60, down from $200
    https://www.curiousplanet.com.au//parrot-fpv-pack.html

    • Apparently crap from the reviews I've read.

      • Righto. Explains the price.

  • Cheers OP . Finally after 30 mins struggling with the website managed to order the premium kit . Site is getting smashed .

    • Happened last time round when it was NatGeo.

  • +1

Damn that ozbargain devil is sitting on my shoulder saying 'buy one, buy one' but then on the other shoulder is a little voice saying I have so many consoles and other techno stuff connected everywhere in the house already that makes me think what the hell could I use it for…. oh the dilemma.

    • +1

So many applications… how about AdBlock for the whole home network, or perhaps Home Assistant?

      • Would Adblock block cash back sites?

Also, this would also block ads from apps like 7-Plus and Nine Now, right?

        • +1

you can add whitelist to pi-hole

  • Can anyone suggest what can we do with these and what sort of programming skills are required ?

  • Has anyone here made a magic mirror using these?

    • built one with a PI zero

  • Just received an email to say my order has shipped with tracking. That was quick!

  • Premium kit now showing as out of stock

    • +1

But still orderable on parent website… Better use that CC protection

  • Cheers grabbed 2 premium kits from the other website listed as the first was out of stock
Can replace my pi b+ and pi2 now

  • Ordered, my first Pi 3

  • I need to grab another 5 units or so for a class I teach and both sources are sold out - I can't find any other particularly good deals, did anyone have any better luck?

  • any link I can buy only even 1 ?

  • Can this be programmed into a chromecast or a netflix box. Thanks.

  • Out of stock on the beginner kit to now :(

  • Premium kits sold out on both sites now.
Managed to get a starter kit. Thanks OP

  • +1

Would've preferred to get the premium kit don't need the keyboard, mouse etc. but still a great deal. Got the starter kit. For everyone asking what you can do with these, there's a ton of stuff if you don't mind a little tinkering. I have a retro pie and another one hooked up to the official RPi lcd running picoreplayer and squeezebox.

Edit: Forgot the most important part - Thanks OP! :)

    • Same, had to get the starter kit :(
      Would prefer the premium kit….

  • +1

Thanks OP - got my order in early and have already received a shipping notification.

  • +1

Just ordered and not even sure why. I think I just got ozbargained :D

    • +1

Buy now, think later. The ozbargain motto.
I bought more than I needed just to get the free shipping :/

      • +2

        Same :D

  • +1

Amazing! There's one of these shops near my work, I just went in and picked up their last raspberry pi. A lot of the other stuff in there is 70% off too - some good Xmas presents for nerdy kids

  • Mine got cancelled.
