Just got s10e. Price on receipt $849 with $750 gift card

  • +1

just ported out today and got it again, got the same deal previously and terminated without ETC.

will try terminate again via App.

    • is it via Chat method?

      • no, i used the app.

        • Could you explain in more detail how you did this? Are you sure there's no ETC?

          • @Pirateguybrush: App now advises ETC is payable when try to switch to a MM plan.
Try ringing Telstra support to avoid ETC.

          • @Pirateguybrush: i 'upgraded' to M2M at a higher plan, cancelled and only paid for what ever days i used it.. never got the ETC. its been few months already.

All done via the telstra App.

            • @bl33su: Did you try now to terminate without ETC with this current deal again?

    • I'm thinking of trying this. Have a current telstra fam/friends plan expiring this month, thinking I will port it to Optus then try to bring the number back to Telstra. Do JB require you to have an existing, non-telstra sim or can you sign up for a new one on the spot, on the proviso you can't keep your number?

    • So just to clarify, you got the phone for $199?

      • $849 - $750 = $99

        • What's the likelihood OP will get blasted with an ETC in a month's time? Thinking about going in right now and replicating this with a Pixel

    • -1

How'd you terminate without the ETC?

  • -1

does anyone from JB know if the iphone deal will be coming back again??? i would prefer an iphone……

alternatively, what would sell for the most on gumtree - p4 or s10e?? i would just buy the android phone and sell it to pay for the iphone…..

  • Hello all.. i just went to a JB store an they said this deal is not yet active..

I thought it would be active by today..

    • +1
      • +1

Thanks @Ganda..Maybe the rep wasnt aware of it

    • +1

Definitely active. Was ready to sign up after porting out 30 days ago. Telstra said Ihave to wait 1 more day before I can take up the offer.

      • Oh I just ported out yesterday.. will try my luck :)

  • Just tried jb parra westfield and s10e is out of stock all colours.

  • Was told by JB that it's a sliding termination fee that starts at $780. Not really worthwhile taking the phone hoping that you can cancel or churn without a fee.

  • Camera and bettery wise how would you rank these?

    Samsung S10E
    Pixel 3 or 4
    Huawei P30

      Camera:
      Pixel 4

      S10e
      Pixel 4

So did the deal, bought the phone in white. Cancelled then and copped the $390 cancellation fee. While it's not the $200 some got it for, I'd consider getting the latest Pixel for $590 a ripper bargain (and have an overseas flight in a months time, so going to get ~100 back).

    Thanks again OzBargains!

    • If my maths is not an opinion the deal is 12x65 + $200= $980. Take off gst, around $880. Still good if you wanted that phone though.

    • Someone posted

"Was told by JB that it's a sliding termination fee that starts at $780."

How soon after did you cancel?

Was it the Samsung you got?

      • I didn't end up buying it because of that. They also couldn't show me the terms conditions of the Telstra offer.

      • Haha you're scaring me a bit now. It was the Pixel. I'm hopeful that I'll be okay, as I have two separate transcripts with Telstra where they explicitly said '390 is the maximum cancellation fee, and the only additional costs you may need to pay are for your usage that month' (which they calculated as $2.16 (65/30) for a single day of use).

If you see the Mobile Plans T&Cs linked above, $780 ETC is for the 24 month plan, whereas $390 is for the 12 month plan.

Though it might be worth doing some further digging on my part.

        • You're probably right, having looked at their terms and conditions. The guys at JB just didn't know what they were talking about.

          • @Lucatony: I'm very confused frankly.

"If you cancel, recontract or move to an ineligible plan then you will need to pay a Phone Credit Cancellation Fee pro-rated against the remaining months on your plan, the maximum of which is set out in the table above. This is in addition to any Early Termination Charges (ETCs) set out in the above table and accessory payments."

Though when you read the table, the "Maximum Phone Credit Cancellation Fee" says N/A for the 12 month plans.

On online chat for the 3rd time today with Telstra, and they've said they only charge the $390 ETC + whatever you've used that month, which was the assumption I was under as it was stated in earlier This is what I was consistently told by Telstra on online chat. However, now I'm feeling doubtful - I've been extremely candid with my current telstra rep, and they're suggesting I go and check in with JB.

I wasn't told anything of the sort by JB however. The store clerk was all too happy to sign me on.

I've at least had the current Telstra representative I'm speaking with put in writing that they will waive the ETC I received today, and reinstate the $65 plan if JB suddenly tell me that they will need me to pay off the phone. Not too sure how to proceed tbh. Probably a good lesson to learn in my early 20s when a few hundred dollars are at stake, rather than in the future when it could be something more major.

        • Do you mind uploading a copy of the transcript without your name/number ?

          This is soo confusing.

$390 ETC and nothing else then it is worth it…

          • +2

@vegemite2008: Sorry mate, I'm not particularly comfortable with sharing my transcripts. Might be irrational, but I worry about these circulating or people pretending my conversation was their's (and furthermore I'd hate to get the representatives I've spoken to in trouble).

Though this was a pertinent part of one of my 3 conversations, which I currently have on hand:
Me: Would I have to repay the remaining 12 months of the contract if I cancelled early?
Representative: You'll pay any amount owed on the bill upto the time you cancel, together with the early exit fee.
Representative:For example, you have a bill of $65 due when you cancel. You pay that amount together with the $390 fee.
Me: What does that mean - does that mean if I cancel after 1 month I would have to pay the remaining 11 months of my contract, as well as up to $390 in cancellation fees? Is that all I would pay?
Representative: Not quite. If you cancelled you only pay whatever is owed on your plan for that month plus the $390.
Representative: The $390 is only an estimate based on when you cancel.

So while not exactly concrete, I think that coupled with my two other transcripts should be enough of a lifeboat if JBHifi come for me. In my most recent conversation, I was also told that while the representative was unsure if there would be further fees from JBs end, if I discovered that JBHifi does present their own fees for cancelling, they would be able to revert my contracted plan and refund me the ETC I accumulated today, effectively putting me back to square one (meaning at worst I would be paying the original $65p/month + $200 upfront, which is still an amazing deal).

    • Did you have to pay for the initial month of $65?

      • I had to pay for a single day, so 65/30 which they calculated as $2.17

        • So you got the phone and the jb gift voucher then cancelled it after a day and only paid $ 360? they told me to cause im locked into a 12 month plan i have to pay the remainder of the plan which is around $700 odd if i cancel after a day.

    • I have an overseas flight in a few weeks as well - how does one go about claiming the tax back?

    • Oop reread, yes good deal for $590!

  • Thanks for the tip and advice. Bought two S10e's today at Bondi. One for me and one for the missus.

  • I went to two JB hifi stores in Melbourne today, and both reps I spoke to said that it's not possible to drop to a cheaper plan after a month. Can anyone who has used this deal and moved to a cheaper plan explain 1) how they did it and 2) whether they did so in Melbourne?

    • +3

Went to the JB hifi in North Sydney and the guy told me I can change to a $45 plan (12 month) with no ETC if I go back to the store in 2 weeks.

      • +1

Mate that's super helpful, do you mind me asking who was the guy and did you get that in writing?

I'm considering getting this deal only if I can drop the the 12 month $45 a month plan, but worried JB or Telstra chat would just fob me off and say "oh we can't do that, the rep just made a mistake"

        • Wow, that would be so cool dropping to $45. I will see if I manage to pop in a store and ask. I am currently 50/50 about getting the deal, just because I don't really need the phone so it would be purely to sell and get a nearly free plan. If I can drop to $45 after 2 weeks I am thinking of going ahead, otherwise I will leave as I am a light user anyway, so no much point getting so much data.
My store is Miranda, if I manage to pop in and find out I will keep you posted.

        • +1

Not sure if I should mention his name in public, but he told me he works on wednesday and weekends at JB in case I need to look for him.

          • @iScream: Thanks mate appreciate it aye :)

          • @iScream: Good on you for not sniching 👍
Gaspacho may well be a manager cracking down on staff 😀👌

  • Was anyone in Sydney successful in downgrading to $45 when they got this deal last time? Thanks

  • +2

Figured I'd post an update here to the thread I started earlier. Yep, I'm all good! The guy read me the right act a bit ("you're not meant to do it", "the deal is meant to be in good faith") but ultimately admitted that there was nothing to stop me from doing it, as when you do the deal you own the phone outright.

That said, I seriously caution anyone from actually doing this. Personally I think this is wayyy too much headache, and whilst it's gotten me the Phone for cheap, I don't think I've ever going to manipulate contracts for a bargain again. Too scary. If you're prepared to take the risk go for it. But given there was the chance of this endeavor costing $1370 ($200 upfront + $390 ETC + $780 JBHIFI pay-off), I wouldn't be making this gamble unless you're prepared for a worst case scenario.

Hardly slept last night with worry. This has taught me a very good lesson

    • Not worth like that! I am only thinking of downgrading plans, but I don't wanna cancel. Yes not worth all the worry and headaches. I think a lot of people have abused it, hence now they are closing down the loophole.
That is fair enough, as in real facts it's similar to stealing with no cancellation fees. However Telstra and Jb have allowed that, so totally stupid.

      • +1

Yep, agreed. Though really I feel like the stupid ones are potentially those like me trying to manipulate contracts established by billion dollar enterprises lol.

Loving the phone tho. Have never been up to date on cutting edge tech (typically have always tuck to 2-3 year old flagships, that go on the cheap).

    • Nice, so you cancelled the contract and just paid $199 + $390?

My thinking is I have several options:

      -Keep the contract, pay $199 + $65x12 = $979

      -Attempt to downgrade the contract, pay $199 = $45x12 = $739

      -Cancel the contract, pay $199 + $390 + $205 for a Kogan 12 month plan = $794

So a downgrade seems like the best value if JB let me, unless there's a better value plan than Kogan's for 12 months / 10+gb?

Otherwise contract cancellation is the way to go.

      • I think that downgrading is actually the best option. You are basically get one year free sim. Optus is currently doing 120gb for $150

  • If you aren’t interested in any of these phone they are doing the $500 gift card too

    • Yes, but only with 24 month contracts, right? This is a 12 month contract (and apparently that's also negotiable)

      • No.

JB Hi-Fi Mobile BYO Plan $65 12 Month. already active and received the $500 GC

  • Ported out of Telstra a couple of days ago to Vodafone to get this deal.

Went into JB and they contacted the Telco Team at JBHIFI and straight away got told need to wait 30 days when moving away from Telstra.

So have to wait now. No way around it

    • Just get an Optus prepaid number and port that…

  • Just get the deal by getting a prepaid Optus number, porting it for the deal, then cancelling the Telstra plan.

    • How much was it to cancel the Telstra plan?

      • +1

$390 for cancellation, and then they may also charge you either for a day of use or for the remainder of the month.

  • Anyone know whether pixel 4 is Telstra branded or Jb retail one

    • +2

I don't believe any of the Pixel phones are "branded"

      • cool thanks, didn't have a pixel before so just want to check

  • +1

    For business owners…

The GST component is $95.39 which means that Pixel 4 will cost you $100 ;-)

Samsung even less ha ha ha

    • +1

      hahaha

  • Hi all,
Just wanted to clarify something. I've got a current jb $45 byo plan. On my Telstra app it shows a termination fee of $222.
I wanted to sign up a new number to get the p4 or S10e. Switch the numbers to put my existing telstra (jb) number on the new plan then cancel the current $45 plan. Can this be done? Will I cop the $222 fee? Cheers.

    • Unless you find a chat rep willing to break policy (which admittedly many have) you will incure the early termination cost.

Also changing around numbers on Telstra plans whilst possible is not something officially offered/encouraged by Telstra.

  • Does anybody ported from circles.life to telstra? I tried and JB guys told me that the account number is not found to initiate the port request.

  • Can this deal be used to get the $500 JBHIFI gift card? or is this not available with this deal?

      • Yeah from those pictures it seemed like it is, but I wasn't able to confirm anywhere on their site so wanted to check here if anyone was able to get the google pixel 4 for $199 and $500 gift card.

        • You click the link of this post and slide down and you can find those pictures.

    • No - All those deals state "Not in conjunction with any other offer", so you cannot stack them.

      • ok thanks, that is what I thought. Anyway decided not to purchase even if it is a good deal.
        I am an iphone sucker.

  • Just tried to get the Pixel 4 porting from Circles Life to Telstra. They kept getting an error so have signed me up but kept the phone until the porting is complete. Pretty frustrating, they said it can take up to 2 weeks to fix

  • An update:

Any changes to the JB BYO plans has to be processed instore (JB).

Telstra will not do it via chat anymore.

    • Didn't know it's a new thing. I talked to the girl at JB after signing the contract and she said you can change it directly through Telstra. next day I chatted with Telstra and was told JB plans are different from Telstra plans and to make any changes to JB plan, I need to talk to JB. I thought this was always like that and lady at JB didn't know about it.

  • A couple of months ago it was possible to do it via Telstra chat.

I think that too many people have taken advantage of the loopholes and only way for JB to keep an eye on things (and not loose money) is to do it face to face.

    Anyway, smart move by JB.

    • This makes sense. And I'm not not believing you but how did you know this is it? JB staff told you or Telstra?

      • I was told by telstra chat. I will try again to change my plan to $45 later but i had another chat yesterday and successfully got $10 port in discount through chat. Not bad. Phone will cost me $760 now even if i cant chamge to $45

        • Good to know you can still get $10 port in discount. And $45 plan is a JB plan so are you trying to go to jb hi-fi or via Telstra online chat?

          • +2

@Micky14: Try try again. Will try through chat and then from JB. But lookimg at Voda and Optus plans, I am happy with $55 plan and $99 Galaxy S10e. Basically i have got $849 mobile for $760 on 12 months interest free with free Telstra service.

            • @sidozziee: Cool. Hope to hear your good news. Good luck!

              • @Micky14: Thank you

              • +1

@Micky14: I went to Jb hi-fi and asked the girl if i can change to $45 plan? She said I can do that after spending at least a month on this plan and then there will be some ETC, but she said let me check first. She checked in their system and tried to change my plan and said its not showing any ETC so you can change it now without any extra charges, so I did. Now hopefully i won't be getting anything in my bill.

                • @sidozziee: This is what I was told too via online chat, but when I went in the store they called Telstra and I was told by Telstra there would be an ETC for break of contact. I don’t understand how different people receive different information.

Did they call Telstra to make the change or did they just make the change over the computer?

                  • @unity1: while signing contract, jb told me i can make any changes through telstra directly and then i was told by Telstra we have nothing to do with jb plans, talk to them directly.so i went to jb and as i said the lady there told there will be an etc but let me check. she changed my plan on her system without submitting and no etc were shown so she said it looks fine, no charges are being shown,so you want me to submit? and then she submitted it, everything done on computer

                    • @sidozziee: I confirmed with online chat once I got home and they told me this time there would be an ETC. So may be it's possible this is another loop hole which has been closed. You did well to score the free downgrade.

                      • @unity1: That's strange. Telstra chat told me last week that they can't even change the plan as it's JB plan and JB plans are different from Telstra and Telstra don't deal with JB plans anymore.

                        • @sidozziee: That's correct, only JB HiFi can change the plan. When I go into my Telstra app there is a heading which says "Upgrade or Change" Then it says underneath "Your cost to recontract to an eligible plan is $0".

When I contacted Telstra last week I asked them which were the eligible plans I could change to for $0. I was told the $45 JB HiFi BYO plan was eligible. When I went in to JB today I was told by the Telstra Rep over the phone there would be an ETC for a break in contract. This was confirmed on live chat when I got back home after.

                          • @unity1: I might be wrong but i guess there might be some lack of information. try some other JB. Previously I went to Telstra chat for $10 port in discount and the guy said that offer is expired. I tried again after 2 days and i got the discount straightaway. Even the girl at JB who changed my plan didn't know the details. First she said I need to wait for a month, then she said even then I will need to pay ETC and I was going to leave but luckily she was quite cooperative and said let me check by changing your plan if she can see any charges and when she entered all the information and changed the plan, then she was sure there won't be any ETC.

                            • @sidozziee: Thanks, might trying asking at another store, but otherwise I’ll just pay what I signed up for, which is still a good deal.

                              • +1

@unity1: yes that's why i went for this plan as if i won't be able to change it, it would still be good as I would be paying just phone's price. Anything extra would be a bonus.

        • I talked to Telstra chat about this today, and they said that 1) they could change me to a lower plan, but 2) I would incur the ETC.

If anyone successfully changes plans at a JB Hifi without incurring the ETC, that would be useful to know! Most of the reports on here seem to be old, so I'm wondering whether the loophole has been closed.

  • +1

got my porting discount too, thanks OP

    • $10 off a month mate?
