  • Just curious as I'll never have free time to use this…
Why people buy these? I hope it's not just for trying to find a bunch of coins at the beach…. Perhaps for rings?

I first got interested when I found a facebook group of a heritage detection group that did outings to recover what they could from historical sites like old army bases. But there seems to be a few general beach combers and some relived spouses who bought one for a specific purpose like recovering a lost wedding ring.

      • Thanks. I asked because I see sometimes people at the beach doing that and I always wondered what can they find. They seem to patrol the entire beach!

      Go outback out West

        thanks, bought two :D

    • Watch Detectorists.

    • As taken from a online review -

There’s no ground balance adjustment function, for example, which is limiting for experienced detectorists. This also makes it virtually impossible to use on saltwater beaches or ground with high mineralization.

    This deal is gold.

  • Mods: wouldn't the title read better as "@ Amazon AU via Amazon US"?
The way its been edited seems to read as you buy it from the US site, but this is from the AU site using AU dollars.

      Perfect gift for gold diggers

I can just picture a woman at a bar with one of these.

i wouldn't put gender into this context.

        • +1

I can just picture a "agender, nonbinary genderless person" at a bar with one of these…..

@Forfiet: How dare you assume xhe identifies as a person. Time to shut this whole website down for thought crimes.

  • so how does it work - it will only detect metal, no gold, silver etc?

    • +1

Metals with a high conductivity will be picked up more easily, but you can tinker with the settings depending on what you're looking for. This guy does a pretty good demonstration with this metal detector on how to pick up different metal types: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLqffCDDoxQ

      • thanks, helpful video.
        great price… do I need it though…

    • +1

Gold and silver are both metals…

I think they know that, the real challenge is trying to figure out what they wanted to say.

  • Good beginner unit - I have had one for about 8 years, found heaps of stuff with it
