    It's time…

    For payback against the telemarketers

Tonight, we shall dine in phone booths

        And we can eat:

        In the booths…

And before the new dawn the world will know that free men(and women) stood against a tyrant, and before this call is over, evens telemarketers bleed.

    • But phone calls are already free from your mobile phone (for most people), and you can turn off caller ID from the handset.

  • Oh cool. My home Wi-Fi can pick up the Telstra Air bands, so I guess that's essentially free home broadband for a period of time. I'm guessing this might be the same reason why it's so exciting for others?

    • Isn't it already free if you had Air enabled (which it is by default)?

      • I never quite used it because the signal is fairly weak, but I believe using Air still counts towards your normal home broadband usage. So, it's more designed for when you're out and about on your mobile and want… high quality video streaming, without killing the mobile data cap which is very likely lower than the cap for your home net.

        • Depends where you are. For example, in a suburban hotspot, you're looking at 1 down 1 up. In the city, you could be pushing 100 down 40 up. This gets slightly crazier when you go to a McDonalds who recently changed their internet connection. Then you're getting 100 down 100 up for free, being a Telstra Air customer.

      • pretty sure it uses your home broadband data allowance ..

        • -4

That's impossible. If you aren't connected to your home router there's no way your ISP even knows you're connected to something else.

          • @toobzy: Telstra Air is open authentication wifi network and when you connect it redirects you to a login screen where you enter your Telstra username and password to sign into it. It's pretty easy to tie your Telstra login to your internet usage.

          • @toobzy: To be able to use Telstra Air you either need to have a Telstra mobile number or a Telstra Broadband account. If you login to Telstra Air using the broadband account details, it deducts the data used from your home account allowance. If you login using your mobile account, it doesnt seem to deduct from your mobile allowance however

@CereaL: So with this deal there will probably be no login screen since it's open to everyone so won't deduct your allowance. And even if you were a telstra customer outside of this deal just use your mobile account or if you only have broadband with telstra then register a prepaid $2 sim with no credit on it.

              • @toobzy: my original comment relates back to @Diji1 who said isnt it already free if you had Air enabled ..

theres a difference between the Telstra Air from payphones and Telstra Air from people's home broadbands …

this deal only relates to the payphone version. not the home version

If your home can pickup a signal from a Telstra Air Payphone then it's free data. Unfortunately the ones from your neighbour's T-air routers are not included.
      - You'll know because the hotspot will be called “Telstra Free Wi-Fi” and when you choose it, your browser will redirect to a their free sign in page

Literally the only people who I see using pay phones these days is junkies (no idea why?!)

    • +1

      that's sarcasm right

    • I only see people charging their phones there.

Also if they wear a cap, hoodies and sunglasses harder to identify.

      • How long have phone charging usb ports been available at pay phones? I never knew about this

  • The ones near me are all limited to 12mbps.

Can someone tell me what a payphone is? :P

  • Hi,
I get a 404 error from T&C links (no longer Telstra user - so might be why), searched All crowdsupport/Telstra for celebrating christmas, only found 2017 & 2018 posts (same details, maybe?).

Anyway finally found an exchange post from head of Telstra Foundation :-
