I'm lost…….is a digital Xbox one 1tb in the matrix?

    • +5

      no disc drive

    • +16

It's the Xbox One SAD (Xbox One S All Digital).

      • +2

Would rather wait for Xbox SeX

        • +1

Apparently it's just being called "Xbox" now

  • +2

took my a while to figure it out too, but based on the picture, my guess is that there's no optical drive. Hence, all digital and not physical games.

    • +2

      This is correct

      • +3

        and ridiculous too from Microsoft

        • Interestingly the internals are exactly the same, even has all the connectors for the drive, the eject button behind the faceplate makes the correct noises etc. I have no idea why Microsoft would release this other than some kind of market test.

          • +1

            @AngryAlfred: Friday, 4PM:

"Are you sure these have the optical drives installed?"

"Of course they do!! Now, let's go for a beer…"

    • -6

Would be nice to mention in the title.

      • +15

It mentions it in the title..

        • +6

Says "no optical drive". I must have missed that. It doesn't hurt to put a bit of extra info in for those not aware of Xbox differences.

  • +22

Hmm. Maybe it's finally time to get one..

Oh wait, I have Australian internet.

      • +15

Even some of the ones that have received NBN are a mess. We moved into a newish estate recently which is on FTTN. The NBN technician advised us ours and the surrounding streets can expect speeds of 5 Mbps regardless of what ISP plan we’re on. An absolute cluster f$@#.

        • That seems highly unlikely as that is well below remediation level for FTTN. If it is that bad, that seems unlikely in a new estate, you have the right to demand they fix it.

          • @CJ31: Seems highly unlikely because it probably is highly unlikely, but doesn’t change the fact that it is what it is. The NBN technician said he and other technicians have been Insisting that NBN needs to install more FTTN cabinets in our area for years, and nothing has been done. Where we moved from had proper NBN and the speeds were only limited by our ISP plan, so yes it’s frustrating, and no, I’m not making it up as you are alluding to.

          • +7

            @CJ31:

That seems highly unlikely as that is well below remediation level for FTTN

No, that's what happens when you use copper wire so that Telstra can take 60 billion dollars on top of the 40 billion for NBN. Copper wire is terrible.

Australian's are morons who voted for a man who insisted that 12Mbit was all you need. He used to be the Communications Minister. That man acted like he worked for Telstra. That's why FTTN exists in the first place, to enrich Telstra at the expense of everybody else. FTTN speeds are highly variable like ADSL because of copper lines.

            • @Diji1: A new estate would have new copper.

      • +1

It's been ~3 months away the whole time since I moved to my current place in 2016.
They seem to dig up the street every couple of months and then just vanish.

Just in a rich middle Melbourne suburb so who knows what the deal is.

      • +4

I've got FTTN. No joke, I got better speeds with ADSL2+.

        • Same, mine goes up to around 30 with various provider I tried so far

        • +10

If you voted for Turnbull you voted to have garbage internet so that Telstra could get paid 60 billion dollars on top of the 40 billion dollar Labor NBN cost which would have been fibre to your premises.

          Australian's are moronic.

          • +4

@Diji1: Without getting into politics too much, I certainly didn't vote for Turnbull.
            But yes agreed.

          • -5

@Diji1: Fun fact, not everyone votes solely based on the Internet the party will provide. There are many issue during an election. Sometimes you compromise on one party's policy because you value another policy more.

If we want to lay blame, I'd go one step back and blame Rudd for not leaving it up to the private sector to deploy fibre. Would of everyone got it? No. But it sure as hell would of been more cost effective than bureaucrats blowing out budgets.

            • -6

@PainToad: no difference between the 2 - both are America first - hence we will burn and the country is just about finished realistically. 3 degrees to come - current temperature rise will double in ten years- and we just opposed all attempts to ease climate change on America's behalf - sad to see my country destroy itself for another country's interests but hey you all voted for your destruction so its all good…

              • @petry: I get 46 during peak times, but they dug up our unit complex several times, broke a water pipe "nah that wasn't us bro it was just a bit leaky" , we lost water twice, and when we finally got NBN I had to call Telstra approximately 40 billion times to bring the speed up to what was advertised.

I'm making the Vault Boy face right now.

        • I've got HFC NBN.

          It flies. Totally awesome.

      • I've had NBN in my previous home and it was awful. I now live 15km from the CBD and there is no NBN here until July 2020.

    • Sea of Thieves
    • Forza Horizon 3
    • +10

      Lucky it wasn’t physical copies.

      • +1

Well… at least you could sell them if they were.

    • +1

      Cheers m8 added to title

  • +10

Cheaper than Elite Wireless Controller 😂

  • A digital console should have a larger HDD 1tb just doesn't cut it with games being 100gig plus , even with physical games the downloads and updates are crazy

    • +3

You can always expand storage with an external ssd

    • +6

Think about what you said. It literally makes no difference. Physical games need to be installed anyway, so being an all digital console makes absolutely no difference.

      • +1

I mean, for most people it takes longer to install entirely from the internet, than from a disc.

I mean the actual problem with this kind of console is, that you won't get games very cheap for it, or be able to get second hand games. The microsoft store is pricey, so it does not undercut the retailers selling the games.

Like really, the money you save on getting a disc-less xbox would be lost as soon as you buy like 3 games from the microsoft store at full RRP rather than JB hifi, or 2nd hand from the eb junk pile.

        • Yeah, I was just stating the misconception regarding HDD usage.

I'm not a fan of this digital version, which I have stated in other posts.

  • +8

For $64 more would go the physical version with SW Jedi Fallen Order . Even $100 more I would .
    No disc suxs .

  • Is the neXtbox coming out soon?

  • +1

    don't buy the SAD edition.

    • Awesome acronym.

  • +3

    • -3

Then I need another 200dollers to buy a blueray player?

..and maybe alot more for spelling lessons. 😁

  • +10

Remember with a digital console you're stuck paying the price M$ sets. There's no preowned market with a digital xbox.

    • +5

There are online key sellers, although they have their own issues to be aware of.

      • -3

Not sure if they are 100% legal and MS could instantly remove your game and ban your account without notice if they wanted to.

      • +1

I'm not 100% sure but I thought you can buy digital download from Steam?

        • Nah steam only sells pc games.

Some other sites sell both, but some are dodgey - like G2A.

      • @Lem_is_cool I guess the safest one is CDKEYS
Some users have reported having problems but I only buy from them when I wanna keep a collection such as Tomb Raider and everything works like a charm.

  • SAD…. got excited when I saw the price and picture… then I started reading the comments… SAD

  • +15
    1. No Bluray player
    2. No deals from retailers
    3. No buying second hand games
    4. No selling games when you've finished them or don't like them
    • that's a good summary of what u get .should bundle it with 3 years game pass but the console will probably bust before then…

      • +1

Agreed. This SAD version is essentially a dulled down version of what they envisioned the original Xbox One to be released as.
A console where even physical games were locked to your account and you couldn't sell or trade games.
After massive backlash, they obviously didn't go ahead with that plan.

        • but with gamepass maybe its back…

      • That's a good point. If the digital-only version came with gamepass I could see it being a lot more realistic to own. Otherwise who'd save a lousy $50 or whatever and totally lose the ability to pop a disc in?

    • -1

And still have 69 upvotes and counting

  • +1
    1. No games in 4k… (i typed in 5. but i must have been moderately moderated… using socks for puppets or something…)
    • +3

Its a good deal for this version of the console. But this version of the console itself isn't appealing to most people.

    • +4

Is everyone scared of the neg deal button?

Not scared, we’ve just read the rules and know what is a valid neg. You should try it sometime.

    • +2

You don't neg deals that you don't think are good because of X features you neg deals if the actual price is crap and not an actual deal which in this case it is a pretty good deal.

    • +3

Rate the deal not the product

  • Wish they named this version completely different from the disc version. I nearly hit my head on the ceiling excited thinking this was the regular S version.

  • +1

    No disc no thanks.

  • +1

people, has this deal expired??? Just tried and it's saying the code has expired. POO

    • +1

+1 for this - just tried it with one of the normal unit bundles and got told it has expired as well

    • Looks like my son won't get a super surprise for Xmas :(

unless another deal pops up at the last minute. I really liked the look of the Xbox 1 S 1TB with Jedi Fallen Order bundle for $255.

      Oh well.

  • I bought a oneS to play 4k bluray before I had nbn 😆

  • +1

It's a good deal I guess, but digital-only arguments aside, not all new games run very well on this outdated hardware compared to how well they run on the One X.

Even then you're better off waiting until next gen comes next year if you want anything with longevity.

  • -

  • SAD ☹

    • +1

Microsoft should be giving these out for free? You seriously think that? LOL

      • -1

I was obviously exaggerating. But no way I’d lock myself down to digital only. The long term running cost will be way higher.

    • Well you can't use cheap pre-owned discs with this console but think this way… if you're paying $15 each month to buy physical game disc(s) may as well get Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which has hundreds of games and would work perfectly with this console.

  • How come this deal hasn’t been changed to EXPIRED? Has anyone had any luck getting this or any deals using the P20SURFACE code in the past few hours? I’m still hoping there’s some way I can get the $255 bundle for Jedi fallen order and the 1S 1Tb.

  • I don't think this is a good deal either. I'd go for the disc drive version. Disc games are much cheaper than their online counterparts.

  • The deal is good. Just the console itself is rubbish.

    • Is this similar to the Apple vs Android argument?

      • A benefit of an Xbox One over a PS4 is being able to watch 4K movies, so the lack of disc drive on this model is a huge negative.

  • I assume this is the best place for Xbox product manager to find out what people would like…😂😂

  • Expired on 17th December.

  • No able to watch Blu-ray anymore? Really?
Buying this one you are not able to buy a game, finish it, and sell it to have some cash back.
You depend on CDKEYS to buy games cheaper than Microsoft.

Other than that, both Xbox are exactly the same. You buy the disc but you still need to download like 80GB or so of data.
Don't hate this model so much, our One S or One X will download a sh1t gigabyte of data even with a disc anyways.
