    • New customers only

      You tell me

    • You may be able to buy starter kit now, port out, burning remaining months, and port back in on new kit. Check expiry before buying the kit.

    • How do you think of the service? To answer your question, I think this one is only for new customers that port in Boost. Its not a recharge.

  • +1

Hey can anybody that's switched from Kogan to Boost with a phone with NO B28 comment whether there's a noticeable improvment in your coverage/speeds around your CBD +20km radius?
    Thanks

    • +1

Eg. speedtest right now (10km from Perth CBD) has Kogan at 63 down/36 up with full 4g bars.

    • +1

Would not recommend doing Telstra without band 28 TBH. You’ll forever be wondering if the lack of signal is congestion or your phone.

      • Thanks that's confirmed my thoughts that's there no point me switching!
I just figured Telstra may still be better than Voda even without B28 (I've only even been on Optus and Voda networks)

Anyway looks like I only use about 3-5gb per month on 4g anyway as I'm nearly always on wifi so I'll recharge with Kogans 8gb per month plan.

        Cheers

    • LOL! No! Voda don't use B28 but Telstra does.

  • thanks dealbot! great timing, right about to renew my parents' lebara, but this is holy cheap!

  • Can I get this instore at telstra? Or even jbhifi since I think I've seen they have boost plans?

    • +3

      Get one from Officeworks

    • +1

Or even jbhifi since I think I've seen they have boost plans?

      Not any more.

  • Damn.. I ordered the $150 for 150gb 6month expiry yesterday and they won't let me cancel the order in order to get this. Am I screwed? It'd be find if you could keep this as a top-up but you have to port in and out which is a hassle.

  • Anyone else price matched this at Officeworks?

    • +1

Yes I price matched this offer this morning.

    • +2

Yep - drops the price to $228

    • +1

Yeh but be aware that a lot of stores have already taken them off the shelves or showing "out of stock".

So check for stock or call up before you head into a store.

      • +1

        Bastards.

      • +2

Just call and purchase over the phone, I got the price beat offer, $228.

        • +1

Can confirm calling them works a charm!

    • Yep I did by calling the 1300 number, down to $228!

  • Seems like all the Officeworks in my area have taken the 240GB SIMS off display. Any luck in Melbourne?

    • +1

      That is dodgy practice.

    • Same

      • They didn't even have a spot for them on the shelves when i went in. When i asked they only had two in the cupboards up front, she had to rummage for a bit to find them.

Lady i got couldn't care less about the price match.

    • +2

My brother went to go pick one up, he asked for one and the cashier said he'll go grab it, however there was another lady working there who stopped him (very loudly and rudely) and claimed they can't sell them until Jan 1st.

      Seems a bit dodgy.

      • LOL little does she know the deal is good until 6th Jan hahaha

  • I’m running low on my Boost balance.

Are there ever any deals for existing customers?

    • Just port out and then port back in to Boost

  • Anyone know anything about this mob Circles.life? Even with the Office Works price match they are cheaper for 12 months at $18/month for 12 months for 20 gig per month https://www.circles.life/au/promo/?utm_source=pai
    d&utm_medium=whistleout&utm_campaign=20gbfor18&utm_term=superlist-vid

    • +1

Dont do it. Reception is bad with a lot of dropouts. Comments in their deals.

    • Yes, they are cheaper and actually better value. You can go over your 20GB data allowance per month by 3GB (grace data) before they start charging you for extra data usage.

      They use the Optus network.

I have a family member who is using this service. There have been no major issues with them other than their absolutely ridiculous mobile app.

    • They turn out to be just $1 cheaper per month, but you lose:
      1. Telstra network
      2. Wifi calling
      3. Calling on google home
      4. Unlimited International calling on selected countries

      • Circles.Life
        23GB / $18 => 1.28GB / $1

        Boost 240GB
        240GB / $228 => 1.05GB / $1

Correct. Only cheaper if you looking at data value provided per dollar spent.

  • +1

Great deal! My local OW is out of stock too so had to call and ordered one over the phone for $228 with price beat guarantee.

Have been on postpaid for years, but at this price it was too good to pass.

Other benefit I can see is that if I don't use much data for any particular month I can use it later vs postpaid whereas most postpaid your data do not roll over.

    • Oh, you can call and buy it over the phone? do they post it to you or you just collect it from your nearest store?

      • +2

Yeah, call Head Office 1300 633 423. Free delivery as it's over $55.

        • Yep, called and have to do click and collect. Unfortunately all of Canberra is considered regional and will cost me for delivery.

      • You can click and collect from your nearest store, but I think not available until Monday.

  • +1

    Don't forget Cashrewards - I got a massive 50c back!

    • and you lost massive $12 that you would have saved doing price match from Officeworks

  • +1

Bought the last 1 in stock at Hoxton Park Officeworks. Didn’t even think any would be left so late in the deal especially considering the Office Works price match gurus here. $228 price match price and not having to wait after Jan 2nd for the sim to arrive in the mail as my plan expires on the 30th of Dec.

  • +1

Got the last one from Greenacre. They were pretty cool and aware of the demand for Boost. The very nice lady at the counter also told me that I could order one and get it in 2 days with a price match.

  • Anyone brought one from officeworks mind telling me what the expiry date is on this boost $300 sim starter kit.

Just realise my exiting plan doesn't finish until july 2020.

    • +1

      Mine is April 2021.

      • Thanks for replying! Hope mine is the same, otherwise have to get refund to OW.

  • Does anyone know how Boost copes with International Roaming. Don't want to make calls but want to be able to receive texts OK

  • Does Boost allow WiFi calls ?

    • +1

      yes

  • Seems to be out of stock in most metro stores in Melbourne, Victoria.
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/boost-300-…

Will Officeworks price match over the phone?

    • Yea.

    • +2

yes. Got it done today over the phone with no issues whatsover. Mind you they do say "long hold times up to 70 minutes" but I got through in about 5-10 so maybe depends on your luck.

      • yeah i got that, waited to like 18 minutes and gave up .. i'll try again later on

  • How does this work exactly I’m on a Telstra plan that’s finished so does my number just transfer across? I’m reading something about a blank sim?

    • +1

I just spoke to Boost about this after successfully ordering from OW by phone (C&C tomorrow).

Boost usually sends out a blank sim but is having problems with the sims at the moment and has temporarily stopped sending them out. Instead, you are supposed to call up Telstra and have them move your account from post-paid to pre-paid. Once this is done, Boost can transfer you over.

My contract with Telstra doesn't expire until early January, so I asked if this would still be the procedure at that point. Boost rep didn't know but said that they hoped to resume sending out blank sims shortly, and that I should call up a few days in advance of my contract ending (delivery takes 2-3 business days)

      • Which is interesting as first time I was told to buy a $2 sim. Second time when clarified I have a $300 sim in the post, said they can activate it when received as a work around.

  • Here’s some useful tips for anyone considering porting into Boost from a non-Telstra provider:

Boost’s Critical Information Summary at https://boost.com.au/CIS_25022019.pdf says
“If you purchase a Boost Prepaid SIM you’ll need to have an 850MHz compatible handset for 3G access and LTE band 3 (1800MHz) and band 28 (700MHz) for 4G access.”
    Picture here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/eot5b7ipyr2tp2q/Boost-network-band…
Telstra also says at https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/check-imei that to use their service on 4G, your hardware needs to have “1800MHz AND 4G 700MHz banding”. I’ve since learned that this is only a half-truth. Having both bands on your hardware is advantageous but not actually required. It’s only necessary that your mobile phone can use one of these bands - and that Telstra provides service in your location on that particular band. The catch is that Telstra doesn’t disclose any information about which bands are covered in their network coverage map at https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/our-coverage and Boost doesn’t either at https://boost.com.au/coverage-map/. The coverage of any one band can be unreliable, so to mandate that your hardware services both bands is the simplest way for them to ensure you get 4G where they advertise 4G, but technically, having mobile hardware which services both bands is not actually required. Of course, it’s advantageous if your handset services both bands as they can both be used simultaneously to provide you greater speeds (carrier aggregation).

It’s worth mentioning that ALDImobile’s network coverage map at https://www.aldimobile.com.au/coverage/ does have some info on different bands, but does not show the full story either. It shows that my neighbourhood in the Perth metro area is covered by the 700 MHz band 28 and not the 1800 MHz band 3, which was a concern to me as I have an old iPhone 5S which requires the 1800 MHz band 3 and does not have the 700 MHz band 28. In fact, Telstra provides great service on the 1800 MHz band 3 in my neighbourhood, which I only discovered through making personal enquiries and then having a go at porting (despite their advice that I needed hardware with both “LTE band 3 (1800MHz) and band 28 (700MHz) for 4G access.”)

    Speed tests inside my house:
Before port: 3.48 Mbps (LTE OPTUS)
After port: 26.4 Mbps (LTE Telstra)

So, long story short, my iPhone 5S is working great on Telstra without 700 MHz band 28, and I’m very happy to have ported to Telstra, not just because of the improved speed in my area, but I’m happy with a 365 day prepaid deal that I can splurge on data usage one month and not have the hassles of monthly data caps and the resulting need for data top ups or the need to go on a higher plan paying for much more data than I really need just to allow for the higher usage months.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered 1 today with OW pricematch. Delivery date tuesday 31st.

  • Ordered two with OW price matching thanks OP!

  • Is the data divided into 12 month lots or do you just use as much as you want upto 240gb, ie, you could use up in a week and then that's it until your next recharge?

    • You can use up all the data in one day, and then call up Officeworks for another price match on this Boost deal. However, you will need to port out first before you can activate the new SIM using the same number.

  • +1

    I just signed up with Amaysim $30 for 30gb a month… but I figured out I only use about 5gb a month…

I was with Optus paying $10 a week and running out of data…

But now I am thinking of doing this. Saving $132 is saving $132, that's a day's work.

I don't think I am contracted to amaysim, I can just end it after this month…

Plus I am a big AFL fan, I paid $25 a month last season to get Kayo to watch AFL…

This is a good start to the year if I can still get one.

  • Thanks everyone for the heads-up re: calling OW directly to price-match, I'm picking this up tomorrow.

  • Telstra rep on chat is refusing to allocate 3000 points. They are saying only Telstra service can earn points?

    • 3000 points for what exactly?

      • 300 recharge

        • 300 recharge

You are still not making sense.

So, let me get this right. You are expecting to pay $228 (with O/W price match) for this product, and then want the wholesale operator (Telstra) to give you 3000 reward points for a recharge down the track?

Could you point us to the Telstra T & Cs which allows for this scheme (keeping in mind Boost Mobile is a MVNO which just happens to be operated by Telstra staff)?

          • @DoctorCalculon: It's $300 recharge but you are getting it cheaper due to promo.

I remember some said you could Telstra Plus bonus points for Boost recharges but can't locate the thread. Therefore I am just seeking confirmation.

            • @Ash-Say:

I remember some said you could Telstra Plus bonus points for Boost recharges but can't locate the thread

Boost Mobile is NOT a Telstra service. They are a MVNO using the Telstra network.

I looked through the Telstra website for references to Boost Mobile being interchangeable for their service rewards points.
Maybe I missed it, and happy to stand corrected. Also, did a quick search on OzBargain.

  • Most of Melbourne seems to be sold out, but found some stock in Officeworks Vermont South to price beat. :)

  • +2

Don't bother trying to price beat at officeworks and trying to find stock at different stores, they just try to wiggle out of it any way they can. I found my discount boost deal at an online store, decided not to give officeworks the pleasure of giving me a peeny 5% discount and getting my business after making it so hard and coming up with any excuse not to price beat ill never shop there again if I can avoid it.

    • +1

I second this. I ended up ordering straight from boost after a dreadful experience at Officeworks. Firstly the manager said 'We don't price match sims'. I asked her to point out this in the PM Policy. She didn't have an answer but proceeded to state its signing up to a contract, 'Officeworks don't offer contracts nor do they match them'. After explaining to her it was a prepaid sim and you are paying up front the full amount she spent the next 20 mins scouring through the fine print to state that it was an online offer, not available in store.

I responded by saying that Officeworks matches online stores as well as bricks and mortar stores. She grunted, sighed and said 'Well I don't have a barcode I have to activate this thing on the spot'. Even though it was available for click and collect she flatly refused. By this point I'd had enough… It's not the first time this manager has refused price matches. I have also seen her arguing with customers who received faulty/damaged products. I used to love the previous manager but now I will be avoiding Officeworks at all costs!

      • +3

It's stupid when you watch them walk off to ask the manager with PRICE BEAT GUARANTEED written across their backs. Idiots. I had the same thing, just any excuse they could find. Oh we don't price beat things that are out of stock, that's our policy… So I find one that isn't out of stock. Oh sorry wait here for 10 minutes while I ask the manager. Sorry we can't do it. Oh well, from now on I will spend $20 extra if I have to to avoid officeworks forever.

        • Why didn't you all try calling Officeworks HQ for a price match?

      • Please name and shame this O/W store.

        • Everything was going wrong, my amaysim network was down in Melbourne so I couldn't ring HQ, I couldn't even ring the 1800 number from a payphone. I went to my local store Frankston, they had none in stock. Said they couldn't do it, but other stores were showing stock. So I really wanted to get this organised as will save me a fair bit of money over the course of the year so I was on a mission now. I got the train to Mentone Officeworks. I actually figured out the $150 boost mobile 80gb deal is all i need so I showed them a couple of online deal for that for around $130-135 but they kept finding a way to say no, about 4 of them. So I just went outside and ordered it for $130 off a website and with a new lifelong grudge against officeworks…

  • Is boost still using full Telstra network? Need it to work in remote WA where only Telstra have reception.

    • +2

      Yes it's the full shabang

  • +3

Called OW. Call connected immediately. When I told the girl that I want to order the 300$ Boost. She said, "ok so you also want to do price match?" I said, "yes, it means you've been doing that all day long". She said yes, also for 150$ SIM too. Order done in less than 5 minutes.

    • Did the same thing this morning. Don't try a store, just ring instead and PM that way! Works without a hitch, and delivery/C&C is free.

  • Thanks OP got 2 price matched with OW

  • can we e-sim with boost?

  • Price matched on the phone and picking up in store on Monday. Thanks OP!

  • Im still in contract with Optus and will end this October. Should I try to pricematch at Officeworks and save the deals until then? What are the chances that this deal or similar will happen in the future?

  • I just waited 20 minutes on hold to OW only to get the message ''our online system is down , you could be waiting up to 70 minutes.'' i gave up :( try again later

    • +1

They have the same message a the time I think. I had that same 70 min message but got connected in 5 mins. Reckon you call first thing you'll be fine.

  • +1

    Thx OP
Got this at OW with price match, no questions asked.
    Cheers

  • Price matched at Officeworks - Just call 1300 633 423

They rep told me so many people had called up and bought it so she knew straight away.
    $228.00 final price paid.

Free collection at my local Officeworks in 2 days too so no need to have it posted out.

$19 a month for 20 Gigs on full Telstra network = WINNING!

  • Anyone able to activate online? I had to talk to live chat which submitted directly to tesltra and is now still waiting for activation.

  • Bang, just ordered :) last day today - get in quick!

took 16 minutes on hold but still worth it!

  • Anyone ring up Boost to inquire about order status only to be told sorry your order is missing.
