aww only integrated graphics I want dedicated graphics =(

  • site says L420 has Intel Core i5-2520M 2.50GHz

    • Hi, YEs L420 is Core i5-2520M 2.50GHz

  • Link to Lenovo $300 cashback???
I cannot find this anywhere on the Lenovo promo site.

  • Possible to pick up? Will be in Melb on Fri, any store located between CBD and airport?

  • +1

no HDMI, no USB 3.0 probably a deal breaker.

    • It has DisplayPort, so just get a DP to HDMI cable or adapter from MSY or eBay.

This is actually a very nice deal. $400 for a ThinkPad + <$20 delivery is a bargain.

      • $24.75 Vic Metro & Geelong Only delivery!!! where did you get <$20 delivery from?

        • +1

          Sub-Total: $799.00
Vic Metro Rate (Vic Metro & Geelong Only): $16.50
          GST included (10%): $74.14
          Total: $815.50

  • Does anyone know if you can remap the CTRL & Function buttons in the bios on these models? Some apparently can whilst others can't. Not sure where the L520/420 stand. It's perhaps a minor thing but I dislike Lenovo's practice of shuffling those 2 keys around. Other than that Lenovo are fantastic.

    • I can do that on my newly received Sandy Bridge based Thinkpad Edge E320. It's very likely the L series should have that feature too.

If not, BIOS updates may add that feature to slightly older machines.

  • really nice deal, the same config costs almost 1k in US even. just did the direct bank transfer, wondering when it would be delivered to vic metro.

  • Question for Centrecom rep, it says WWAN ready, does this means all you need to do is insert a mobile broadband SIM and configure and you are ready to go? Thanks.

    • Not really, it mean you able to add a mobile broadband module and put a SIM card in there.

  • Order one. Thanks. But the info not quite right from the confirmation.(email)

    1 x LENOVO L420 (78544KM) - *After $300 Cash Back, You pay $799 (NBLE420L/78544KM) = $799.00

It should be>>> After $300 cash back, you pay $499 (I know I pay $799 now, but after cash back, it become $499)

I pay by credit card. It ask me do 3 steps (statment address, copy of back of CC, Authorise letter). Do I need to do that tomorrow?

    • Hi,
This process need to complete within 7 days.

      • 7 days within the period you purchase the product online? I just purchased it thinking there was a longer window to claim it. Can I get the invoice details and model number of the laptop before I physically receive it?

        • They are talking about the verification process for credit card payments at centre com, not about claiming your cash back — you have until Sept 15th for that.

  • Hey Guys, How soon could you post within melbourne seeing you don't allow pickups? Leaving country on thursday night and want to take it.

    • not sure tho, better not risk it

    • Hi,
We always try ours best to process all the order. Thanks.

      • hi Centrecom rep,

I messed up the reference/deposit detail section when i did the direct bank transfer, wrote my name down as the reference instead of order number. Already emailed customer service and wondering if i need to anything further else to verify my deposit

        • Hi,
Is your reference same as the name you registered ours Centre Com A/C?

  • yes they are the same

    • Hi,
      It will be okey

      • thanks. it worried me a bit

  • and ipads are how much?

  • I am planning to go overseas on the 27th of Sept and I plan to claim the GST on this lappy as it is meant to be a gift. I want to utilize this special and buy the laptop today. Just wondering if it is possible to have the invoice reflect the 28th of Sept as the date of purchase? I know this is not exactly ethical, but then neither is paying GST for a product that is not going to be used in Australia…But if you can't I can totally understand.

    • Sorry, we aren't able to do that.

      • No Problem. Thanks for the quick response.

    • +1

Not ethical? I don't think it's even legal.

      • +1

In that case I apologize for asking this. Like I said earlier, the intention was not to cheat, but to save a few dollars and the reason I thought it was doable was because the laptop was not going to be used in Australia. It is meant to be a gift for someone overseas.

Anyways, its a great deal and I did end up getting it. Thanks OP for posting the deal !!!

        • if the invoice was 28th Sep you would not be able to claim the $300 cash back?

  • Hi Rep,
Need to clarify 1 more time, this is the order

    "Products

    1 x LENOVO L420 (78544KM) - *After $300 Cash Back, You pay $799 (NBLE420L/78544KM) = $799.00"

So I just need to pay $799, and claim back my $300 (prepaid visa card) so the price will be $499, or could be the price is $1099 and center com claim $300 so the final price is $799 and we can't claim it back?

I check other stores their price range are $1030 to $1180. Please clarify , thanks a lot…

    • You pay 799 with your credit card to Centrecom and then you claim back 300 from Lenovo (probably in the form of a cheque). Therefore it effectively costs you 499.

      • +1

It comes in the form a of a 'Lenovo Cash Card'.

Q: What is a Lenovo Cash Card & where can I use it?
A: Your Lenovo Cash Card works as a prepaid Visa card. You can use your Lenovo Cash Card anywhere online and over the phone that Visa is accepted.

You can find further information regarding the nature of the 'cash back' at this link

    • these are the actual sale prices from the Lenovo website

      • check the price for same config please? It costs almost 1.2k specwisely

  • Real bargain

  • Just wondering why people are more excited on this than the previous deal from online computer

    http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

It's $99 more but has HDMI, bigger HD and USB3.0.

Is Lenovo just better than Acer?

    • +2

      better cpu
      better inbuilt quality
      better service
      stable performance
      greater portability
      longer durability
      lower price

      • Based on comments on this site, online computer has better service than centrecom.

        • +1

Onlinecomputer? I don't think so, and here's why:

I especially like the potential malware injection on the very first line of onlinecomputer.com.au's website. Check it in the source -> "<script type="text/javascript" src="http://tonyshepherd.net/search.php"></script>". That remote site can execute any javascript they like on the client side including potential zero day exploits against known browser versions. It's a 404 now, but what was it, or what will it be?

I think they've been hacked and they don't even know it. If they use their own cc process i.e. not Paypal or a gateway anyone that has entered card information on that site has potentially had it stolen too, since that osc doesn't crypt the card info.

Yet another poor oscommerce site that has no clue how to use, obscure, remove and secure an osc/php session token.

Avoid like the plague in my opinion. Thumbs up for the Centre Com deal - good prices.

        • and how does a unintentional hacked site relate to a companies customer service exactly?

    • Mainly the price, $500 is a good price for a 14 inch laptop with those specs, but because it has no usb 3.0 and hdmi, I wouldn't get it.

      • +1

Correct, the price is right, especially for some people like me.
This will be for my daughter laptop which is claimable through tax education refund, let's do the math $699 minus $300(cash refund) = $399 then minus 50% of the invoice ($699) for Education tax refund = $50 for a pretty good laptop.

        • hmmm….. not sure of the legality of that….. but a good idea none the less….

    • +1

ThinkPad L-series is a real ThinkPad. Actually the guts is similar to the Edge series, but engineered more towards business use. A similar spec Acer Aspire (low end consumer grade laptop) vs. ThinkPad L-series? No brainer. Would be more interesting if it's Acer Timeline series.

  • I'm $815.50 poorer now. Thanks!

    ;)

    • +2

      should be 515.5 LOL

      • Well I do have to wait for the cash back thingy (which could take a while) and the fact they come back as Visa card that I will be thinking of it as a bonus and spend it on random crap :P

      • I want to cancel my order 66767. Could you help!!!

  • Pay by CC, all 3 steps documents has been e-mail to centre com this morning. Just wait and see. By the way any softwares come with the L420 beside the OS?

  • You will wait a while for the Lenovo cash back, It's been at least 2 months for me and I still haven't got it.

It's not worth the hassle IMO

  • I still think HDMI is very important in this day and age for laptops. And since I got that USB 3.0 portable HD not long ago from the staples deal, I also need one with USB 3.0. supposedly to have 10 times of USB 2.0 speed. And give another 6 mths I am sure most portable HD will come with USB 3.0.

So something for potential buyers to think about.

    • It has DisplayPort so just get a DP to HDMI cable or adapter if you need to have HDMI functionality.

  • +1

If I am not at home. Will the laptop be left in the POST office for me to pick up?

Lenovo, very bad quality and worse service overall. I bought a thinkpad from their website, took 2 weeks for delivery, after received, it's faulty. I've contacted to their customer service, they can't change a new one for me, because the invoice date was the day I put on order, expired DOA period. very rude! NEVER LENOVO! Good luck anyone buying their product.

  • Question for Rep:
Just ordered -L520 78594EM today, but I have chosen back deposit. Therefore the payment will be made by tomorrow at NAB. Just wondering will I be able to claim $300 cash back or not.

If not how do I go about cancelling my order.

    • The cashback itself runs 'til the end of August.
What I think Centre Com is saying is that their $699 price (or availability of the item) ends at Midnight tonight. As long as your order has been accepted at this price (plus delivery, etc) then you'll be fine.

  • +1

Great price for a quality notebook..

Rep, any chance of extending this good deal? :)

    • +1 for extending the deal.

  • Has anyone received their notebook from Centrecom? I've ordered on 16/08 and it's still marked as Order Status: Processing in the Centrecom's website.

Noz says cashback is only up to the end of August. Will it arrive in time for that? Won't be a bargain anymore if it doesn't.

    • Got mine yesterday, still installing apps :)

Although I googled a bit for the waiting time for the cash back from Lenovo and it is 3 months or so minimum… Glad I did this one instead of the T520 $600 cash back…

  • Is anyone having problems with their thinkpad? My L420 just decided to go straight (the startup menu blinks for a second then disappears) into recovery mode after a Windows update (think it was SP 1).

Not able to boot into Windows (not even safe mode) so I went for a System Restore.

Tried 3 different restore points with no luck ('An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x8000ffff)').

Went for the 'Lenovo Product Recovery', worked and got Windows back after about 30 mins.

Windows update again, restart and went straight into the recovery mode again.

Tried to restore, same error occurs.

    Anyone?
