Nu-Tec in-Desk Power Hub w/ USB-C PD 30W & Surge Protected Power Outlets $10 @ Bunnings

4660

Saw this at Bunnings Bankstown Airport (NSW) plenty of stock left.

Update: Confirmed at other locations (VIC, ACT, WA etc). Should be nationwide.

Update 2: $5 at some stores

Update 3: Stock level (not live, can be inaccurate, use as guide only) checker by Delca (Huge thanks) on Google Sheets

Update 4: a more streamlined table by clear and plague69 stock checker

Has 4x surge protected mains outlets, 2x USB chargers (2.4A) and USB-PD 30w port. Can also be used on a desktop laying flat against the table. I think it's a steal for $10! Good hunting!

    • I saw they were $20? or did you just ask?

      • they were labelled $40. i told them to do a price check and it showed up $10

        • ah okay, i'll have to go back. Cheers mate

      • They were labeled $20 on the box they were in in the aisle but a fellow shopper and I established that the signage was wrong. I bought 1, the other shopper bought the rest of the box.

        It made me laugh.

        • ah damn, was planning on going tomorrow to grab some. So i'm assuming theyre out of stock then

  • Any in Vic? Bayswater ish if anyone has had a chance to drop in?

  • Anyone had luck in NT?

    • Darwin 47 units
      Alice Springs 44 units

  • How do these multi voltage usb outlets work? If I hook it up to power a raspberry pi(which I assume has a requirement for 5v), how does the charger know to deliver 5v? Cheers

    • It is negotiated.

    • The standard voltage would be 5V and the host device would negotiate the required voltage profile with the charger/outlet

  • +1

    Great for trip OS.

    • +1

Depends what the voltage is there…
It's designed for Supply Voltage 230-240V so the USB circuit may not work unless supplied with right voltage.
And what you are plugging into power outlets.
The large USB / cable management base makes it is a bit bulky.

    • nah IMO still Xiaomi power strip for that and only needing the one travel adapter (e.g. if you buy a device while OS)

  • Damn… those look good!

I have the smaller Nu Tec charger (that's meant to go on a desk) from an earlier OzB post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/479043

I loved it that much I ended up buying a couple more. This brand seems pretty decent quality

  • Edwardstown SA has 20+ near the service desk

    • What's the price?

      • Confirmed plenty in stock left at Edwardstown. $10 each

They dont stock these at my local :(

  • saw these at Bunnings Sunshine VIC today

    Anyone checked Bunnings Alexandria?

    • +1

Upstairs at Electrical, they didn't update the label price, I've asked and now labels are peeled off

    • +3

I was there this morning. They've still got plenty (aisle #60).

      • yeah there's plenty left. Plus the headphone holding ones too just further down.

        • ozbargained at alexandria

A friend sent me a photo, Crest headphone stand with 1 x power pass through, 3 x USB-A fast charge, 1 x USB-C fast charge is also on clearance.

    Was $20, now $10.

Can't find in on Bunnings website, strangely also can't find it on Crest website even though the product photo shows "Crest" branding.

Perhaps an older product, but with USB-C, can't be that old.

    • I picked up 3 of these Crest units from Balgowlah NSW store today plus 7 of the Power Hubs all $10 each. Only a couple of Crests left but 20+ Power Hubs still available.

  • damn pity I didn't see these today during my rummage (may have been in stock, I didn't go through electrical :( ). Great deal for a power board with more up-to-date USB capabilities than most boards or adapters that still sell for way more!

Used the Bunnings website Inventory API for this. Seems to roughly match availability as per comments above :)

You are a frickin legend!! 😁

      • You're welcome :) Fingers crossed the stock is still up to date, but I'll check again in the morning in case the stock only refreshes overnight.

          • +1

@John Kimble: Just refreshed and available has now dropped to 5 on the API (though probably system errors). Not sure how to edit this post, but I'll post a new one tomorrow morning.

Also, the Perth stores haven't closed yet so I believe it's mostly correct for the other states.

        • Thankyou so much for this. If a store is not listed does that mean there’s no stock?

          • @Prince K: No worries, to answer your question - most likely.

I filtered out the stores classified as "Low Stock (1 Unit)", "Not available" and Blanks

        • Thank you too, legend!

          • @keongyip: 9 or so left at Scoresby. They scanned at $10. Aisle 46

        • Thanks Delca. Your table is right for Altona store, there shuold be over 30 left after I picked up 2 this morning

        • +5

Made a Google Sheet so this can be refreshed more often

          https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IuMRGGNKYZjx38BnI4Wo…

          • @Delca: Is this current?

            • @Owgasm: Looks like @Delca needs to manually periodically refresh it. Current data is timestamped at 10AM, 3 Jan 2020

          • @Delca: You had any luck getting stock levels like this for other retailers?

            • @Cheap Rich Guy: Dan Murphys - when you want to pick up instead of having it delivered (esp good for the mystery sales)
Dell Outlet - there is more stock available but not shown

However, both these are a little trickier - any suggestions on what else could be good?

              • @Delca: Delca - any chance of getting a copy of the source for the google sheets - I would like to build something like that myself.

    • +2

      You the real MVP!

How you work out the api?

      • +15

        Not OP - used Chrome DevTools (F12) and the Network log to check XHR events. Saw that stock availability was given by GET request to https://www.bunnings.com.au/api/v1/store/{{storeId}}/{{itemNumber}}

I got the item number from the photo (0078679).

        • Yup :)

          • @Delca: How did you get the store IDs though? Couldn't see how to get it besides navigating to each individual store page haha - unless you just looped through them?

            • +2

              @awesomewilly: "https://www.bunnings.com.au/api/v1/store/<STORENUM>/nearest/<NUM_NEAREST_STORES>/<ITEM_ID>"

I got this link from inspecting the XHR events when clicking "View more stores"

              • @Delca: Ah nice! Being able to change the number of nearest stores helps a lot too. Thanks!

            • @awesomewilly: If you go to the page of a store like Mentone, View Source and search for "StoreID": you will get the ID.

Also if you search for /contact-us?storeNumber= you can get the storeNumber that can give you other stats including the store ID through their API.

        • +1

          Very impressive!

          Thanks @Delca and @awesomewilly

        • +1

          Hey mate,

Really appreciate you posting this API feed!

I've built a Chrome Extension which automatically pulls the feed and shows your nearest stores.

          https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bunnings-unofficia…

Keen for your thoughts! It's roughly pulled together so definitely some improvements to be made, but hopefully this helps!

    • +1

At store I visited (Mt Gravatt, QLD) staff had put aside stock for pick up after phone calls. That stock will still show as available, but won't be.
      Something to be aware of.

    • Woah, ta dude

    • Thanks for the heads up on the API! As I find the Bunnings website painful to use at times

    • 5253 doesn't exist?

    • Hey mate this is amazing. What code did you use to pull this from the APIs into a table?

  • $10

  • +1

There are 10 at Rydalmere in the Electrical aisle. Probably another 16 in boxes under it.

    • I bought one so one less left now :)

    • I got one today and only 6 left in the boxes @ 9.30 AM in Rydalmere. I'm not sure if it was kept somewhere else as well.

      • Long gone by the time I got there this afternoon :(

  • Power drain as USB is always on. Expect higher electricity bill.

    • +8

can you elaborate? wouldnt it be the same as every other powerboard? unless there is something plugged in, the circuit isnt complete?

      • Where you at BongoOB…
        Please explain?

        • +2

Well he/she has been online since the request for clarification was posed. Probably driving around buying boxes of the stuff whilst logging in to see if Delca has updated stock levels

      • +1

Noticed board is warm around USB circuit with nothing plugged in.
Circuit is on & consuming some power.

        • Can someone confirm with a smart AC plug for power consumption ?

          • @wjb: Power meters are inaccurate at low power consumption like that. I've used a few meters for years.

Mains power meter shows 0.175W with nothing plugged in.

Over a year that would consume about 1.5KWh. So wouldn't cost you much.

Mine is plugged into a switched powerboard (this powerboard is only used for low power consumption) , so easy to turn off.

To give an indication of power consumption (with no USB cables plugged in or with cables plugged in but nothing connected), IR thermometer reads 3-4°C warmer near USB end than other end of powerboard!! Reads 7°C warmer with USB-C phone plugged in.

A 4 USB Tronsmart unit beside it shows no heating with no USB output.

Constant heating could shorten life of USB circuit.

          • +1

            @wjb: I have a smart AC plug.

Uses 0.1 watts with nothing plugged in.

To give it something to compare against, plugged in my Note 8 to one of the usb ports it jumps up to 10.5 watts.

If my maths is correct, at 0.1 watts standby power, it would take 10,000 standby hours to make 1 kWh which is ~30 cents depending on your energy retailer

        • The lead is only 3x1.0mm^2 so you could always purchase an inline switch (which I am considering doing).

The other option if you have power and lighting switches within the vicinity, would be to run a hard-wired switchwire across to your lightswitch from the powerpoint and have it switched locally from your switch plate! Not uncommon in some installs I've carried out. Or plug it into a switched outlet, preferably not another powerboard - bit of a no no.

At least 15 in Maribyrnong Bunnings

    • Looks like they're all gone

    • Couldn't find at Keperra. Now to head over to Stafford… Can you remember where they were?
      Edit. Aisle 50

      • i couldnt find any at stafford this morn, picked up 2 from Keperra (sitting on a trolley near the outdoor furniture)
was hoping to find one of the headphone stands though :( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/510240

        • The headphone stands were out of reach and not tagged at my local bunnings. Check the power board section on the top shelves. That's where mine was. Had I not looked for the power board stock, I wouldn't have even seen them given I was only there for the board and hadn't seen the other ozb post at the time!

          Look up and live? Lol

    Least 20 left at Keysborough:)
    $10 each

  • Anyone know where to find them at Kirrawee or Caringbah stores?

    • Upstairs in Caringbah. There is a section for power boards etc.. near the lighting area.
Price on box $20 but scans at $10.
Approx 20 in stock this morning.

      • Cheers for that. I’ll head down shortly.

  • At least 10 left at Notting Hill store (VIC)

    • $10 at Notting Hill as well?

      • Yeah $10

        • Plus a couple of full boxes underneath.

Drove to Carlingford and then Thornleigh before seeing the post of the stock levels. Bunnings gentleman in Dural was amused, "Gee, they became popular all the sudden".
