Solar Power Car TPMS w/Temperature Warning US $17.80 (~AU $26.05) @ E-ACE Factory Store AliExpress

JAREK1111VETERANALI

Recently purchased this for my Dad's Corolla. Can be charged using the built-in solar panel or by Micro USB cable. Dad has only had it for a couple of weeks but so far so good. Readings are fairly accurate compared to my other tyre guages.

Some described the screen being too dim in a few of the reviews. It's set to low by default, so not sure if they were aware that it can be adjusted. I found the brightness adequate on the high setting, but it sits in the centre console see pic not in the usual spot on top of the dash.

Use coupon JAREK1111 or VETERANALI from this deal to get the above price, GST included.

It was delivered in about two weeks. You may be able to find it cheaper by a few dollars elsewhere, but chose this mob as they have sold quite a few with a lot of positive reviews.

  • I've got something that looks identical to this off ebay. Cost me about $50. The batteries in the sensor seem to last anywhere from a couple of days to months. If they really lasted 2 years I'd be all over this.

    • Can you replace the batteries?

      • Yes. Although the built-in variety will require removal of the tyre.

      • Yes batteries are replaceable. 3v 1632 lithium battery (external sensors). The external sensors can be unscrewed with the provided tool.

      • Yes but the replacements drain just as quickly. Some sensors just seem faulty in that they drain in days. I have two sets and there's dodgy sensors in each. They're quite accurate whilst they work but I've given up replacing the batteries

I know there is a description, but for those who still have not idea, what is it for ?

    • +2

Tyre pressure for your car. Has a bit that screws onto each tyres valve bit and sends the reading to the device with the pressure.

    • +1

In the US, it's compulsory (for a while) for new cars to have tyre pressure monitors. This is an aftermarket kit for old cars that don't have it, or to replace the factory fitted ones that are broken.

  • @adr8 did your dad get the external (screw on) or built-in sensors?

    • +1

      External.

  • How do you change these to use PSI?

    • Hold menu button for 3 seconds to enter system setting. First setting is unit PSI or Bar, use the other buttons to toggle between options.

  • Very tempting guys, have bought ALDI’s pump and been using this for over a year and very happy with it, realised with new tyres things don’t change very often anyways, just wondering what’s your excuse for getting one?

    • +3

To detect a puncture or slow leak. Also convenient way to check tyre pressures :)

      • +1

Very useful if you live in an area where constructions going on. A slightly flat tyre can be patched if you catch it. A tyre thats being driven on flat generally has to be replaced, at $100+ a pop

Bloody construction workers, screws in the gutter for miles around them

  • Curious… how do I know whether I need K01 / K02 / K07 ?

    • K01 has external sensors, K02 has internal sensors (need to remove tyre to fit) and K07 is different model with external sensors.

      • gotchya - so for something simple, K01 should do the trick (I have a VW Tiguan R-line)

        • +1

          That's the one I got :)

Was going to get another version that attaches to the windsheild with 3M tape which looks a lot neater. Decided against it after reading reviews of the cheap plastic melting :(

          • @adr8: Oh that sucks, I was hoping to attach it to the top of the windshield so it would charge from the sun. My car is predominantly under cover but I do go in holidays in it for weeks at a time. Where do they expect you to put this so it charges?

            • @Jackson: I'd say you would only have to worry when leaving it parked in the sun on a very hot day. A sunshade would fix this.

  • Wouldn't it be a hassle for the internal ones whenever you rotate your tyres? The sensors would get confusing on the TPMS screen?

    • You can reprogram the position of the sensors very easily.

    • not really.. you just unscrew them and swap them around. Mine just have a nut under the device that needs to be loosened but that takes only a second for each one.
It takes less then 5 min to swap them all around.

My issue is that I have one value that blinks, and if its a hot day then the LCD is just black and can't read any value.
I have them on my 4x4 though and they have been through hell over the last year and they still work fine apart from those little issues.

  • Does the extra weight of the sensor affect wheel balance much? ie do we need to rebalance the wheel after installing?

    • From what I have read, no need to rebalance the external type. Have found various sources that say similar to this.

Also, I have driven on the freeway a few times now and haven't noticed any vibration. Will still get them to check it at the next service just to be sure.

    • Never thought of that.
I've had mine for a year and still get normal wear on my tires so it should be fine.
From memory about the weight of a 20c piece (but don't hold me to that as i haven't had one in my hand for quite awhile).

  • How to adjust the brightness?

    • Third button switches between brightness settings.

  • i think the battery in display is Lithium , is it safe to leave it inside car parking on hot days

    • Mines been on my dash for a year and i haven't had issues except that on a hot day the screen goes black. I mounded mind by pushing it against the window and the dash.. it might be too hot a location for it but not sure where else you could mount it that it still gets sun light.
