Oh how generous of them šŸ™„

    • +2

      I know, right.

    • +1

      Modern day saints!

    • +1

I usually donā€™t support google but… google news has all the latest stuff.

    • These sources are in my excluding list which won't show in my daily news page. Who care Murdoch's has to say.

      • +21

Murdoch doesnā€™t own this paper lol šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚

        • +2

No, but it's owned by Nine Entertainment which is run by Peter Costello (John Howard's deputy and treasurer)

  • News.com.au often has these sorts articles free anyway….

Seems a bit rich to put these behind any paywall. Even if that's just how their site works.

    • +43

      Matter of taste…

News.com.au has pretty crappy content on a regular basis. Eg.

      1. Bikini/G-string news.
      2. Kmart news.
      3. News about Instagram influencers.
      4. New about 'hacks' eg egg peeling, garlic peeling
      5. Random news about Kim Kardashian, Madeleine McCann etc.
      6. How some shit is 'dividing' the internet.
      • +6

Kmart mum has a new article on news.com.au

        omg back in a sec

      • +9

every single news.com.au blog post contains spelling mistakes. every. single. one.

it's just a glorified blog with a good domain name run by people pretending to be journalists but are nothing more than bloggers aiming for the most clicks. Seriously click any random article if it's not spelling mistakes, its missing words or entirely wrong words where they have tried to copy and reword other news sites.

        • +1

Or they have an interesting photo in the thumbnail but not in the article.

        • I suspect they are trying to emulate the Gruniad…

      • +2

Or sex "influencer" Nadia nobody including such trite as "The truth about my sex addiction"

      • +1

        And news by Nadia Bokody.

      • Here's a great one:
        https://www.news.com.au/national/victoria/news/what-happenedā€¦
"Journalism". Dont know whether to laugh or cry at the stupidity. Nevermind the fact a whole article was written about this and filed under Victoria News.

    • +5

'News' articles that contain quotes from Twitter as a source is not what I would call journalistic excellence.

      • I'm not defending the 'quality' of the site.

Just pointing out that they often keep such popular articles like this away from paywalls.

Obviously 3 neggers got a bit emotional just suggesting the site…

  • +4

Looking forward to reading about how this is all the Greenies fault!

    • +2

The Age wouldnā€™t dare report that, they are very left biased along with all the Fairfax media

      • +6

They are closer to center than any other commercial media in Oz, not that weā€™re spoiled with choice, all very right News Corp, very left Guardian or left fairfax

        • +11

Fairfax is actually right wing. They have Peter Costello as chairman.

Sky News/Murdoch is ultra-right wing and their fans consider anything to the left of their opinion to be ā€œleftistā€ even though itā€™s not.

          • +2

@bargain ben: Think that nine buying fairfax played a role in that?

          • -1

            @bargain ben:

            Sky News/Murdoch is ultra-right wing

            ultra right wing?! Rofl.

            • +3

@miq: Yeah, like Fox … Murdoch is simply missing the swastikas, but they turn up at his audiences rallies and protests. It doesnt get much more ultra right wing…

      • +3

Yeah that's why they posted all those pro-Liberal articles prior to the last election.

    • +9

Yep - apparently all the green governments, councils and departments stopped us raking the forests. You can trust a rugby-playing furniture salesmen to expose the experts' propoganda…

    • +1

Already starting " It's fuel load, as the latte-sipping marxist greenies wouldn't let us have reduction burning.."
      CF: Rake the Forests

  • +14

Or a private mode tab for unlimited?

  • +10

Can't reward paywall sites when they are riddled with click bait articles under the pretense of "opinion" pieces, or worse yet selective reporting on news. Glorified tabloids most of these paywall news sites.

  • +14

Doesn't everyone just visit those websites incognito anyway?

    • -5

Downvoting for bringing this to light.

      • +1

        The Devs would know

    • -1

      Doesn't work anymore.

    • -1

      incognito never works for me

  • +29

    ABC.net.au

  • All news should be free…

    • why just news? šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

    • +2

      Why?

    • +6

How do quality journalists get paid then? Do they work for free?

What's your trade? I'll come get some free work off you too.

      • What's your trade?

        Browsing OzBargain.

      • -4

they are bloggers. If they can't figure out how to make money in the new age they deserve to die out and be replaced by new media, which has been happening for years now anyway.

See all the articles of old-media attacking new-media.

      • -1

They get paid by the news network who make their money from advertising.

    • How?

  • +5

Public information should be free anyway.

    • +2

      Tell that to China

    • +8

This is why we have a public broadcaster

      • Nothing is free

        • It is indeed.

        • We pay for it via taxes, public service for the public good.

        • Free as in speech, not beer.

    • +2

How do journalists get paid then?

News has never been free. People were paying for newspapers hundreds of years ago until now (kind of now).

  • +16

Bushfire or no bushfire, this extension for Chrome and Firefox unlocks all articles for Fairfax and plenty of other publishers.

    • the extension doesn't work anymore

      • It's still working fine for me on Firefox (mobile and desktop editions)

  • +1

Put outline.com/ at the start of the address to bypass the paywall

    • +1

This hasnā€™t worked the last 5+ times I have tried it. Does it still work with any site?

  • Just refresh cookies

  • So the news organisations that charge and give out a few biscuits gets coverage at OzB but the free ones none .

  • +2

As others have said, if you really want to know what the latest status is without biased commentary, ABC is the only option.
It's coverage has been nothing short of amazing, with journalists based in lots of different towns and areas around the country. I know they have a role as the national broadcaster for emergency warnings etc., but the way they have approached this has been very impressive.

I've also been looking at The Age site daily, but it isn't very informative in my view.

    • -7

      ABC is the only option.

The ABC's mission is literally to propagandise for the AU Government, it's in their mission statement. Only a fool would hold this view.

      • +3

        No.
As I stated, if you want to know what the latest status is without biased commentary, ABC Emergency provides the latest advice, warnings, information and news reports for you to prepare, survive and recover from emergencies and disasters.

If you want to have a separate discussion about news analysis and potential political bias etc., go ahead, but the ABC staff have been exemplary in relaying critical information to date.

    • -2

Hahahahah are you on drugs? Itā€™s painfully obvious that the ABC is very much left-biased.

      • As I stated, if you want to know what the latest status is without biased commentary, ABC Emergency provides the latest advice, warnings, information and news reports for you to prepare, survive and recover from emergencies and disasters.

    • The Guardian is free and has been awesome. I donate to them as they're one of the few quality media outlets left.

  • Unfotunately The Age is full of opinion based articles. I prefer fact based articles.

  • This is a publication for literal morons to read.

They spent the last 30 years lying to you about climate change and explaining how US war crimes are great for everybody.

If your still reading it your either incapable of rational thought or you just have no standards.

    • +1

The left leaning Fairfax papers are demonstrably anti-climate change & pro US war? You've got the wrong publication mate.

  • +1

Are we supposed to be impressed by this?
I get my news from the guardian and don't pay anything.

    • +2

Evidently we have low standards here.

Or just mention free in the title….

      • Not everyone has high standards

  • I use porn mode to read the age.
