    picked one at Sunshine store today, opened and noticed 1 dead pixel on the middle right side, am I bad luck or is there any way I can get my T520 swapped, this should not happed to Lenovo T Series. Can Centre Com Sales Rep advice, thanls.

        I picked up one from Centre Com Sunshine too. They're a reputable business. The unit is sealed by Lenovo and it is Australian stock.

      Im curious as too which will end up getting more +ve votes, they r both great deals. The fact that this (the lenovo) ends up completely free eventually tips the balance for me, but takin into account the ETR the HP deal would only be $300 for better processor w/ a graphics card (irrelevant personally)

        Even if you don't factor the ETR, a Thinkpad for 600 is much better than a 600 HP. The HP specs are a bit better I gotta say, but others being equal, the Lenovo still wins.

          If you don't have a kid it is still possible to get free if you can claim 10% GST back and claim as a tax deduction and on a tax rate of 40% or higher (roughly earning more than $80k a year).

          BTW, I read up on the Education Tax Refund and primary school children have a lower $397 refund compared to $796 for secondary school children. Also, have to qualify for Family Tax Benefit Part A.

      Guys you don't need to be worried, this is calculated from the day of manufacture or the date that Centrecom got the laptops. Your warranty is from the date of purchase i.e. the date on your receipt :)
      Enjoy your laptop and stop checking :P

      what is the bios version of yours.

      what is the 5sec fan pulse issue? i can hear the cool air comming out from heat sink left hand side of laptop and seems a fan works constantly?

      Yes, you can upgrade it with a SATA 3 SSD and get full speed (6Gbps).
      Two of the ports are SATA 3 (HDD and multibay slot) and two are SATA 2 (mSATA slot and eSATA port).

      Great, the only thing stopping me from buying it is a confirmation that it has a display port. I already sent a email, but haven't got a response yet.

    Haven't used a ThinkPad before, but after reading the comments, seems like most of you are happy with it. With the stock sold out and unavailable on the Centre Com website, what are your suggestions for LENOVO THINKPAD L420 (78544KM)? How is this compared to T520?       thinkpads generally are perceived as the symbol of durability and steadily performance, especially T series and X series (which is well known for ultraportability). L series of thinpad are also business grade laptops , although it may not stay in the line with T series, but they are still considered to be laptops of better inbuilt quality than most of other brands. I indeed ordered L420 before i saw this T520 deal, personally i would say l420 is also a very nice deal( just short of a display port in comparison to t520), but better portability tho. with faster cpu and more rams, its price is really competitive at $599 even for general consumers' use. the only question is whether it justifies all your needs and budgets for the laptop.

    Just got the i5 420 model and first thing I did was run the windows experience index. Scores were:

    Processor: 3.4 !!!!?!?!?!
    Memory: 5.6
    Graphics: 4.7
    Gaming graphics: 6.2
    Primary HDD: 5.9

    It correctly identifies the 2520M CPU @ 2.5ghz. That score is about half what it should be….

        Yes that one, that cost $799. I updated the bios to 1.11 and now the processor scores 6.9 so other owners should surely check this out.

    Hi All,

    Just some info I thought you guys might be interested in (suprised no one has brought this up).
    The current generation T and L series all had a bios issue which causes a really annoying fan pulse (you will notice this when the fan is under any sort of load every 5 seconds it will pulse). To remedy this you need to install the 1.28 version of the bios (only available from the us lenovo site - for some reason the inbuilt thinkpad vantage bios update only does it upto 1.27 which does NOT remedy this.

    More important this also addresses B3's issue, whereby the CPU performance is underclocked (from what i read it is actually stuck at 800 mhz) 1.28 will allow full use of the CPU and will see that benchmark rise upto 6.9+ from the current 3.4).

    Anyways so check your bios firmware (pretty sure all will be 1.14) and have a listen to the fan it will no doubt pulse every 5 seconds (it sounds like its about to go fast but only for a fraction of a second).

      it is widely reported on the internet (just search fan pulsing and t520 you will see). It is only observable in a silent room, so chances are you won't even notice it, but as for the cpu speed issue I think it would be best to upgrade to 1.28. Prior to updating i had 3.4 calculations per second for my cpu score and after bios update i had 6.9.

          i havent updated the bios and how come some people here got 3.1 and got 6.9 for cpu only after update to bios 1.28,

    guys, the $600 cashback applies to T520 sold by any authorized retailer. So out of stock at CentreCom don't mean you can't get this deal elsewhere.

    Few places they told me this particular T520 model is an end of life or discontinued model.

    I noticed in lenovo website the starting price for T520 is 1399 before start any customization.

      offer cash back via redemption.
      Retailer still gets their full selling price, Lenovo still get their Wholesale price and it would be interesting to know (as a percentage)how may people actually claim the "cashback".
