$9.90 AUD after $5 cash back from Cashrewards.

      • +2

Like 95% of introductory/trial offers out there. I don't know this makes them pricks or very shifty.

        • -6

It does when they set it automatically and don’t even txt or email u a few days before to let u know that it’s going to happen. But they have no problem spamming the shite out of your email flogging off their crap products once you become their customer. Most ppl flogging these things won’t care cos they’ll remember to go turn it off but genuine customer tend to get screwed. Kogan have the same model too. It’s a very poor way of doing business.. just cos all these (profanity) businesses do it doesn’t make it right. Hope the ACCC crack down on it

          • +4

@Gavman: Clearly says in the description…

Automatic recharges at $99.90 unless you opt out.

            • @MagicMushroom: I get that but not my point. 3 months is a long time. So you may be ok with it when you first sign up but 2 months later may not actually want this to happen and you forget about it. Simply sending a reminder notification to remind you that you will be charged $xx on xx/xx/2020 or opt out surely couldnt be that hard to manage but it would kill most their profit margin so they make sure they don’t remind you and pray you forget. Scumbags

              • +4

@Gavman: you want icecream with that?

                • @id: Nope IM. Just reminding ppl these scumbags roll Like this so pays to get on there an opt out ASAP and don’t let it lapse. But I guess most ppl here are like me and chicken feed on these deals and port between them and kogan. I know others that got stung tho for not paying attention to it and they are scumbags cos they won’t refund you even if you forget or make a mistake.

                  • @Gavman: Gavman
Its obvious that its YOU that has the problem, not catchconnect

You are obviously totally disorganised and dont read the "blatantly obvious" conditions.

Stop blaming other peoiple for your poor state of affairs.

CatchConnect are very upfront with auto recharge being set to ON unless you change it. From the offer page:
"Automatic recharges at $99.90 unless you opt out."

If they didnt do auto recharge which is quite normal in the industry you would be complaining that your service ran out and you werent notified.

                    Classic whinger!

              • @Gavman: Learn to use a calendar.

        • -2

          Yes. It does.

          • @loropy9: No, it doesn't. Really not that hard to avoid the auto recharge

            • @suburbanmale: From their offer page:
"Automatic recharges at $99.90 unless you opt out."

Really hard to claim you werent told up front

      • +5

Don't get a credit card… They will charge you arm and legs if you are late
Don't get a mortgage… They will claim ownership if you are behinds
Don't get a car insurance… They'll charge more if you claim
Don't get into stock exchange… You'll lose money if they crashed
        Don't get a computer… Everyone is watching

I personally use them and its fine. Sign up, and tick off auto recharge. Simple. This post is about bargain. and it's a good bargain. If you want to talk Moral, Apple, Google and Amazon should not be here at all.

        Relax, it's ozBargain, not holyBargain

        • I am pretty sure I turned off auto recharge when I first got my number, but when I checked near the end of the 90 days it was turned on again, so always check. Of course I may have forgotten, but I was intending to port out anyway which is why I checked.

      more like 70c cashback

      • +1

just as a spare sim data bought one and i got a 70c confirmation tracked from cashback.

Raise a dispute if you believe you have been cheated.

          • @DoctorCalculon: cashrewards. lets see what they say

            • +1

@id: Clearly states $5 on their website.
Also, Catch Connect themselves are full of dodgy-ness. They don't even do proper ID verification unlike other telcos.

  • +7

They also removed international calls on all plans.

    • +1

Very sneaky…only noticed because of this comment so thanks!

    • -3

Who makes international calls these days?

You got Facebook Messenger, Viber, Whatsapp, wechat for the Chinese and many others to make FREE intl calls and TXT.

Very poor excuse for a compliant.

  • +1

Probably worth mentioning new services only

    • so what's the go-to method of refreshing new customer status now? $2 SIM or a free delivered SIM somewhere? Or just switch between kogan/catch/boost every few months?

      • +5

Yes, probably flip between Kogan and Catch.

      • Make up another account with a new email, I have 4 different accounts.

      • +2

Been doing Kogan -Catch-amaysim -catch for a while without any problems. need to make sure your Details care correct while requesting port in .

        • hey bud, any reason for using amaysim as well? I only switch between Kogan and Catch and I am currently on my 2nd cycle (Kogan-Catch-Kogan). Does Catch require more than 90days off their network to consider you a "new service"?

          • +1

@sigplay: Sometimes I used 6x28 day amaysim deals with cash backs. Catch-Kogan -catch never had issues , currently on 4 months free circles , expiring this month, already have catch sim ready to port in at the end of this month. I already have account with amaysim and catch and always use same email/account with no problem , never have problems being in and out with them.

            • @NPB: That's good to know then. Thanks! The 6x28 amaysim deals are normally too small for me hence the Kogan-Catch cycle. And I missed out on Circles :(

        • +1

"NPB" Take "care" that your Details ARE correct. I knew what you meant though, very correct there.

  • I can’t see expiry date on the PDS anywhere.

    • “You must activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised in the promotion (whichever is earlier).“

  • +3

just a heads up they sell your information to telemarketers … they might be cheap but this is how they make their money back

    • +2

Good thing i only use them as data sims.

      • Yep same.

      • Can you do this to tether a laptop? Would that mean I would need a phone to put hte sim in, or do they work in computers/tablets?

        • They should work with tablets/laptops that have LTE slots.

        • There's a SMALL chance they wont, because the carrier sometimes does care if the device identifies as a phone or a modem; but its rare.

Telstra 'satelite phone' sims do; probably because if you screw it up, a normal call can be $10 of dollars each.

    • -2

Catch are also very shifty by setting an auto recharge on your account. Turn it off before they charge u $50 for next month or make sure to complete the port out. They won’t notify you or warn you that they are doing to debit Ur credit card for it and are a real bunch of assholes that won’t refund it if you happen to forget. They make their money buy preying on the time poor or those that don’t pay much attention to the fine print. Better yet just Avoid these pricks altogether

      • the only a))hole here is you m8! For that price do the extra mile! They are giving you promo! I think everybody is aware of the autorecharge and ways to get out of it!

        • -4

Perhaps I am. But Youre just a cheap ass like me and opts out anyway by port to kogan before they can autocharge. Even so Doesn’t make their practice right.

        • Auto recharge set to ON is default selection with most telcos unless you turn it off

      • +2

You got an equivalent or better deal to offer that doesn't auto-recharge?

      • +1

For what's worth, they did give me a refund last time this happened. I didn't have to argue or anything, just asked nicely.

    • +2

Never received any telemarketing calls , phone number registered on do not call register.

  • If you take this offer and at the end of 3 months port out to another network. If you come back, after 1 month, will you be considered a new customer?

    • +3

      Yes.
Been a 'new customer' with them 6 times now (and counting)😉

      • Do you use the same details about yourself each time though (eg name, dob, email address, home address, etc)?

        • Exactly the same!

Never had any problems being a "new customer" again 😉

          • @ginmi: Awesome thanks for letting me know!

  • I've already bought and used Catch Connect starter sim once. I am currently on Circles. Will there be any issue porting into Catch again provided both Catch and Circles rely on Optus network? Thanks.

    • +1

You will be fine , just need to make sure you are transferring from post paid (circles) to prepaid catch

  • +1

Not sure if I just dreamt it but I believe I have opted out of auto-recharge. Then I forgot to port out the day I was supposed to and I still got recharged. So make sure you don't forget! They were quick to process my refund though since I contacted them the same day I got recharged and that I haven't used the service yet. I wonder how they will treat it if you didn't get to contact them until after a week

  • They use your details to telemarketers like someone mentioned, and to cross sell their online offers. Just be cautious as this isn't their primary business.

    • I have used them many time and never experienced any of that.
Best telco to deal with imo.

    • Anyone complaining about this is on another planet!!!

Cross selling is both smart and normal business practice.
Its also totally acceptable from the Privacy point of view.

So if you dont want the be sent offers then tick the box accordingly or unsubscribe.

      Its not a big deal!

      • I don't think it's acceptable from a Privacy point of view and while it may be smart practice, it isn't ethical or legally acceptable. You are supposed to get an explicit confirmation from a customer before you start sending marketing emails and that's why you usually have an "I accept to be …." box at the end of most sign ups.

When you sign up with a mobile carrier you don't really tick any box allowing the Company to promote you products from a subsidiary or group Company and that's not acceptable.

Why would you need to unsubscribe anything that you haven't subscribed to in the first place ??

  • +2

Hi all. Please note that Cashrewards is aware of sales tracking at $0.70 instead of other rates ($5 etc). This has already been raised and escalated with Catch Connect and will be adjusted automatically in your Cashrewards accounts as soon as they investigate & fix the issue (hopefully by Friday). You have nothing to worry about. The promised rates will be paid. Thanks, and apologies for the inconvenience.

    • +1

      Cheers for the heads up.

    • Just placed an order for this offer and it shows the $5 reward

      Great stuff!

Under $10 for 3 months of unlimited calls and 60GB data.
Will make sure I disable auto-recharge and port out on the last day.

My port out and park preference is the Belong $10/mth 1GB plan as it actually goes for 1 month. Not 28 days as in Amaysim and others. Kogan is 30 days so near enough.
Subtle differences but every day counts, especially when looking to port back to this offer.

Now to be on the look-out for the next supa mobile deal in 3 months time.
Hopefully the 6 x 28 day amaysim deal with cash back.

  • Lost my SIM card overseas and they have been unable to send a replacement SIM out to me despite numerous requests and follow ups.I would avoid them

    • That's a service I'd only expect from one of the bigger networks, certainly not without a fee.

Bit much to rag on Catch on this basis I reckon.

  • When do I need to activate it by?

  • Ended up getting this for $7.90 minus the cashbacks.. happy boy https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/514679

  • -1

    Is this deal virtually on-going?

  • Does it cost anything to enable international roaming just to receive SMS whilst overseas?

    No it doesn't.

Your plan has global roaming enabled by default - you just need to purchase a Catch Extras pack to use while overseas.

Wondering if you need to add "Catch Extras" just to receive SMS when it costs nothing to receive SMS?

  • Does this suffer from the same Optus to Optus drama? Currently with circles life, should I port to a non Optus carrier first?

  • Does anyone know if this is an ongoing NEW CUSTOMER offer ?

  • +1

My 365day Catchconnect plan ended few days ago, went on 4.90 30 days Kogan deal, and just got this one to go back on Catchconnect while I wait for a decent (50% or BOGOF) 365day deal … :)

  • I activated my service about a week ago on this plan, but my services have suddenly been disconnected this morning. Anyone else got this issue? I am waiting for the support to open - hopefully in another 20 or so minutes.

  • Does anyone know if I can buy 2 or 3 of these? In the description it says Limit per customer: 5 services per account. Does that mean I can buy one, then after 90 days buy and activate another SIM all on the same name/account? Or is it better to do what others are doing and making multiple accounts?

I have turned off auto recharge, Do I just stop using the SIM after the 90 days or do I have to call up and cancel the service?

    Thanks

    • +1

Does that mean I can buy one, then after 90 days buy and activate another SIM all on the same name/account?

Yes as long as you're not porting. That is, when activating the Catch SIM, use the mobile number that comes with the SIM.

eg. I have a dual SIM phone. The 1st SIM slot is reserved for my permanent SIM so my mobile number never changes. The 2nd SIM slot is for Catch which I mainly use for data only. After 90 days, I just junk the Catch SIM, activate a new Catch SIM (which has a new phone number I don't care about) and use the new SIM for another 90 days.

The old SIM will appear as a service in your Catch dashboard as "out of credit". The new SIM service will appear as "active". Eventually, the "out of credit" services will disappear from your dashboard meaning that if you only ever have a single service active at any one time you might never reach the 5 service limit per account.

I buy the Catch SIMs one at a time as the CR/SB offers come around quite often and you have to activate the SIM within 30 days to get the cashback. Therefore, would not recommend buying multiple SIMs unless you're going to activate them all within 30 days.

      Hope this helps.
