  • A friend bought one of these for full price a couple of years ago and loves it! She lives in a remote area so servos/convenience stores are over an hours drive away. Makes sense for her.

At $5 for 2 bags of ice, in just 36 parties you’ll start to save money

    • Well worth it in that case

      • Yes, and 15 kg is like 3 bags so not worry to run out

    • You beat me by 30 seconds.

Your local servo must be far cheaper than mine. $4.50 a bag or 3 for $10 for us

    • or a couple of cricket seasons.

In case anyone is curious, this machine costs similar to 40 5kg bags of ice based on Woolworths and Dan Murphy ice prices.

    • Plus power consumption which is no small thing

It doesn't work out too poorly from some quick maths.

130W * 24 hours if run flat out without a break arrives at 3.12 kwh / units. We pay 26.2c/kwh so that's 82c to make 15kg of ice.

Water cost for the worst offenders is about 7c per 15L

Obviously better on solar, and I ignored the cost of water purification filters etc.

        (Perth prices)

        • That sounds pretty cheap.

  • Anyone know which ones better? kogan brand or devanti?

    • +1

I think they are the same… I mean they just stick the different logo on the machine. Correct me if I am wrong.

Using a Devanti for just over 12 months and it's not making much ice atm so I am looking to buy another one.

I like the look of this one.

It is sold out at the moment. Anyone got one (or similar)? is is good?

Before parties we just fill a plastic bag with water, freeze it, then get at it with an ice pick on the day.

Wait what, so there is a better way to get ice?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these Kogan ones sell for around this price most of the time anyway and are rarely if ever at full price.
I was watching these for the later half of last year as I wanted one for summer.

We got a Devanti one from Amazon at the start of summer and we're happy with it.

People are comparing it to buying bags of ice from places and I get that. No worries.

In our case, there are 8 of us in our family and over summer, everyone likes to put ice in their drinks and water bottles, so I just run the machine during the day when the solar panels are active and fill up a 4lt ice cream container in the freezer.

The small ice feature is handy too for sitting containers or plates on with dips, cabana, cheeses etc for long periods or really hot days.

  • According to the Kogan description it "Rapidly freezes ice in minutes!". Umm…

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-ultrafreeze-ice-maker/
This smaller capacity unit can apparently make a similar amount of ice per day (12kg vs 15kg), but you'd need to refill the water tank & empty the ice tray more often. $119.99 vs $159.99.

    • I do have this one and typing this post by drinking the ice water which colding by the machine producing the ice bullet(not cubes).

Due to freeze occuppied by other food and bottom mount one is not always comfortable to deal with.

It takes around 10min to produce 9 ice bullets, first one or two batches ice were going to melting rapidly, after then the ice is nice one.

Warm day is quite handy for my family.

Con is water storage should be empty and dry completely if you do not use them for a while otherwise, fungi would grow inside I think so.

  • 1kg ice bin capacity…. so to get 15kg of ice in 24 hours you'll be changing the ice chamber every couple of hours for those 24 hours.

Or… you can get a couple of clipseal sandwich bags, almost fill them with water, and put them in the freezer. Break up the ice as you need it.

Nearly $200 goes a long way to the drinks you are trying to chill!

Break up the ice as you need it.

If you're making ice in your freezer, why not just use ice cube trays? Sounds a lot easier than chipping away at a solid bag of ice?

      • Clearly because ice cubes just aren’t fancy enough or something.

  • the lid isn't insulated so if you're making ice in a warm room you can cut your yield in half

  • Ice maker would use the fan to cooling the element inside, you should consider the noise of the fan before you purchase.
