This is crazy value.. imaging going back 3 years and looking for a 24-thread CPU, you'd be paying literally 6-7x the price? maybe more.

    • +1

Well intel will sell you a 12 core 24 thread Core i9 10920X CPU that uses twice as much power to runs slower then the 3900X for $1199

      https://www.pccasegear.com/products/48447?gclid=CjwKCAiA6vXw…

      • +3

        sell you a 12 core 24 thread Intel Core i9 10920X CPU for $1199

        Yeah but Threadripper 1950x (16/32) is under $800 …

        (albeit it's a … temperamental CPU where Intel isn't)

      • Intel also requiring 2066 socket motherboard costing $$$$.

    • Literally

    • Could you imagine Intel selling you this prior to Ryzen? The prices would be astronomical.

  • My wallet is crying!

    • +7

      So is Intel

  • Thanks OP. Now I just need a good deal on a motherboard and some ram.

    • Legend, thank you so much!

  • +1

    Thanks OP, got one!
Anyone see any decent deals on a compatible X570 motherboard?

      • Thanks, after doing some research I think I'll go with the Gigabyte X570 AORUS ULTRA.
Hopefully FTC Computers are a trusted reseller!

        • If you can wait a little bit, one of the best b450 mobos, tomahawk, is coming as an x570 tomahawk

          https://www.anandtech.com/show/15362/ces-2020-msi-announces-…

          • @Garroshs: Just the name is coming, why would you trust them to get the same quality of the board? Let me put it like this, MSI B350m Mortar is crap, MSI B450m Mortar is superb. It is just a name, just wait for the reviews.

            • @misu p: and you'd kick yourself for not waiting if it's one of the best, like it's predecessor. Your logic works both ways

            • @misu p: From what we already see it has 2 m.2 gen 4, 6 sata, wifi 6, 5 usb 3.2 and bluetooth 5.0 so you don't need a BT dongle. And enough chip to ram clearence for all air coolers. Priced around $180 usd this mobo looks to be a steal, again, needs testing but it looks the goods

  • Absolutely epic… So cheap. I got my first 3900X for 719 when it was in Ebay 20% off… And now I get my second 3900X for another PC

  • +11

When i woke up this morning, i didnt expect to be $600 poorer…it really is a humbling experience…

  • This just keeps coming down in price. Completely obsoletes the 3800X at this price, and almost obsoletes the 3700X as well.

    • Always thought the 3900X was the pick of the bunch, small per core cost over the 3700X/3600X, but you get higher boost and more cache.

      • -2

Well the 3700X started around $500, the 3900X around $800, so the difference used to be ~$300. The 3900X's price has fallen significantly. The 3700X/3800X hasn't really.

Ultimately, I think the 3700X needs to be below $400 to really be competitive.

        • isn't it the number 1 sold cpu on amazon? pretty competitive

          • @Garroshs:

isn't it the number 1 sold cpu on amazon? pretty competitive

You didn't even read what I said. The 3700X was competitive because the 3900X used to be much more expensive. However, the price of the 3900X has fallen significantly (from ~$800 at launch to just ~$600 here).

            If it's the 3700X at $499 vs the 3900X at $598, would you buy a 3700X?

            • @p1 ama: it is still 750-800 though. A sale isn't its price point. And if the sales continue, then the 3700 will drop. idk if you know how market works.

        • erwasdas

    • Wait for the 4000 series to come out and make these CPUs drop like rocks

      • I could see the 4000 series being over priced while these take a small hit in price.

  • Does this come with CPU cooler in the box? If not what are the recommended liquid cooling solution?

    • +1

There is one in the box and that's good enough. If you are looking for a quieter cooler, then H115i RGB Platinum from Amazon AU is a very good one (280mm Radiator), often <$180 during promotion and stack with cashback.

      • Cool thanks for that. One more question, would it be worth upgrading from my current Intel i7-6700k as well? I used my PC mainly gaming (and just World of Warcraft game so far). Maybe occasional trans-coding/ converting videos.

        • +2

If you want to upgrade, then yes. 3900X is much faster in any sense, expect >2.5 times multi-core performance. And single thread will improve by some margin as well, most likely 15%~30%. But do not expect a huge improvement in gaming, since it mostly depends on GPU

        • +2

On thos two things alone I say don't upgrade, you won't see much improvement without a Gpu upgrade too. Even then wow is probably already running faster than your monitors refresh rate.

    • +3

The Wraith Prism in the box is okay. It'll just be a bit loud.

I wouldn't spend money on a water cooler. If you want something a bit quieter, I'd go for a tower cooler. Something like the Noctua NH-U14S or NH-D15. I wouldn't spend more than $100 on a cooler for this CPU. You just can't get anything more out of it. It's not like back in the Sandy Bridge days where you can put a huge water cooler and run your 2600K at 5.2 GHz.

These Ryzen chips are already running at pretty close to their max. If you just use PBO and no manual OC, you won't really get any extra performance from a better cooler. If you're manually OC'ing, you might be able to push it to 4.3 - 4.4 GHz and that should net you maybe a few % increase. Again, it's not really worth it.

      • It's kinda loud and kinda busy (spins up and down). I'm enduring while the nice folks at Noctua post me the free AM4 adaptor for the NH-D14.

        • How does it take to get the free adapter sent to Australia?

    • i went with an air cooler, noctua nh-215 are ussually pretty cheap on sale. And one of the best in the buisness

  • Can't decide 3600 or 3700 and now this…..

    • Same boat

      • I think I might just go for this as it will last a long time and can always sell should there be a reason to upgrade to Ryzen 4000.

I am just curious about FTC if it is a reputable store to buy from.

        • They're not. Read up on other people's experiences with them and give them a wide berth

  • Suddenly the Techfast rig I just purchased doesn't seem as good as a deal with drops on this and the GeForce RTX 2080! :(

Buying this and replacing the 3800x with this is probably pretty stupid, right? Right?

    • +2

Not stupid if doing lots of video editing or other high intensity CPU tasks.

For a gaming rig it's stupid, yes.

      • It will be a gaming rig mainly - thank you for bringing me back to reason.

        • +6

I have a 3700x and pondered the upgrade too. But I mostly just game so I couldnt pull the trigger.

Better to wait for Ryzen 4000 for higher clocked 8 core, rather than a similarly clocked 12 core.

          • @Skramit: In the same boat…I will just wait for ddr5, pcie5, and 16 cores becoming mainstream, I guess…:/

    • +4

Yes, stupid. 8 core 16 threads is more than enough. Plus, knowing techfast they probably included the bare minimum motherboard and PSU so you'd have to worry about VRM and power supply if upgrading with 4 extra cores and 8 threads.

    • Buying this and replacing the 3800x with this is probably pretty stupid, right? Right?

You could probably get ~$450 for your 3800X on eBay/Gumtree. I'd say just go for it. $37.50 per core.

  • Thanks OP - this is an amazing deal. Pretty good use of my $1 Ebay plus deal

  • Thanks Op…Grabbed one…first AMD build…Been a while since i built anything. Looking at mainly an editing machine. Any recommendation on a decent MB and Ram (64Gb) ideally.

  • Hi guys new to building pc but thought i would give it a shot im looking at the 2 items below. Can anyone recommend a motherboard to suit?

Gigabyte NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER GeForce AORUS 8GB Gaming Graphics Video Card HDMI
    AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 12 Core Socket AM4, 3.8GHz CPU Processor

    • +1

Gigabyte Aorus x570 series. Dont go for MSI if you intend to OC

      • thanks any idea on ram to choose seems it could be cheap to bundle everything together in the cart

        • Just get the cheapest CL16 3200mhz /3600mhz ram. Look at prices.

      • +1

        Who OCs these days?

  • Just trying to think, where the 12 cores are going to be useful.

    • -2

      phub

      • i must be doing it wrong???

  • Anyone know if FTC Computers are eligible for this deal?
    https://au.aorus.com/event-detail.php?i=1235
I've contacted their facebook page and am awaiting a reply.

    • That would be great if they did.

    • Any response?

This is tempting .. but i've got a 3700x and paid pretty close to what this price is.

      • Just got a reply from them over messenger, both a eligible resellers!

    • Please keep us updated. Definitely interested in this too!

      • Keen to hear also

        • No response yet, messenger says it typically takes them over a day to reply..

          • @Room Temperature: i ended up ordering i dont see why i cant redeem the ssd. Ordered the below for $1585
Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, Gigabyte AMD X570 Aorus Pro Wifi Motherboard and Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2070 Super Grapghics Card

            • @david6509: I think I read somewhere FTC don't partake in the AMD promotions for the xbox live pass so I am unsure if the Gigabyte promotion applies them.

              • @Lummii: it looks like all you do is send gigabyte a copy of your receipt to redeem. Hope this is the case, wish me luck

                • +1

@david6509: They do specify a purchase from an Eligible Resellers but I can't see anywhere what those resellers are. If they aren't, I'm going to hold off for a little bit for a better deal on the Mobo. Best of luck though!
I'll be sure to reply once I hear something back from them.

                  • @Room Temperature: please let me know crossing my fingers as the motherboard ended up costing abit more then i wanted to spend.

                  • @Room Temperature: found this posted by a guy on the graphics card post, I asked AORUS Gigabyte support previously this and this is what they said - "as long as the reseller is AU/NZ based its eligble for promotion… need to provide the invoice".

                    • @david6509: Maybe go ahead with the claim and let us know how you go? Looks like their response time on FB is pretty slow.

                    • @david6509: Do you need to buy motherboard and CPU from same reseller?

                      • @valco: I don't believe so, shoppingexpress.com.au have some decent deal's on motherboards right now and they are advertising the SSD deal also. I asked support if both FTC and shoppingexpress are eligible. Will update with what they say!

      • Just got a reply from them over messenger, both are eligible resellers!

    • I ordered a 3900X from FTC and a Aorus Master atgears ebay stores and they (Aorus/gigabyte) sent me a confirmation that i should receive it.

      • did you just order the 3900x today from ftc? if so did you just supply the ebay invoice?

        • I sent them a picture of my paypal activity (both CPU and mobo), I bought the CPU at the beginning of the Aorus deal early December. Initially this deal was limited to particular stores and I decided I'd try it anyway once I had the motherboard in hand with the SN on the box and by time the MB arrived the terminology used in the offer was adjusted to not state any specific stores as being eligible, just having purchased the 2 components was good enough.

    • yes they do, i purchased one from ftc over the xmas period and successfully claimed with them (still waiting on delivery tho). just request an invoice from ftc (as they usually take ages) and then go to gigabyte website to claim

      • Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully there will be stock left!

  • I don't need another one of these. I really don't.

  • Looking at building a video editing PC as my trusty old macbook 2013 is now abit sluggish.

Anyone recommened a decent budget ($2k) part list for editing 4k content in Adobe Premiere Pro?

  • +1

Wonder how smooth warraty returns would be with these guys. Any feedback?

  • Thanks OP ordered :)

    Their feedback seems pretty bad.

  • myself and no one I know would need this kind of CPU… but Upvote because it is fantastic value for anyone who does need :)

  • Great price but it's overkill for most people are not going to take advantage of the 12 cores

  • Must… Not… Build… New… PC…

  • Only 1 left!

  • All gone, bugger was going to get one!

  • I've already got a 3700x in one machine, and a 2600 in another.

However, I do have a new x570 motherboard and another case ready to go. Had intended on pulling out the 3700x out of the SFF case I have (dancase A4). Pulling out the 3700x out of the Dancase was going to be such a chore, and this deal has come along..

Ordered. I don't need it, but I really cbf'd pulling apart my sff build, and sometimes some deals are just too good to pass up.

    Thanks op!

  • +2

    price jacked to $665, welp.

    • Damn, missed it.

  • Price jackkkkkkkkkkkked. Lame!

  • bastards!!! Was gonna click buy even though I absolutely dont need it ahahhaa

    • Same here. I mean, I would have appreciated it but definitely didn't need it. The price was cheap enough to say "stuff it" and commit though. Ah well. 2700X, you can stay in service for now my friend.

  • Wow. Nice.

  • +4

Had just bought the 32gb ram for $126
Had just bought the ASROCK phantom gaming X x570 $399
Now I have bought the 3900x
This new PC is being built on the top of bargains, now I need someone to find a bargain on a decent AIO or kit
