    30% or, up to 30%?

OK, I can see that's noted in the description.

"up to" probably needs to be in the title, as most will be 10% or less.

    • ye usually the cheap stuff im after is 5 percent and other more expensive stuff can be more like the 30 percent.

    • +2

Everything I wanted to buy was only 10% off.
      LAME

    1) Title needs to be updated to say "Up to 30% off" there is a big difference.
    2) As per previous similar cash back deals from ShopBack, Groupon is not always correctly tracked by their system, be prepared to monitor your account and raise an issue (within 2 weeks) if it does not show up. (I've had to do this a few times with ShopBack but each time the credit has been applied after opening a ticket).

    • +1

Last round, Shopback didn't track correctly only given the standard CB and need to send an email to get them correct.

  • +5

Groupon has not tracked for me last 2 times, using CR and SB. Some other users have had the same issue

    • Yes I did have this issue last week using SB app.

    • For me cr never works but sb does. I always have to contact there customer service to get my cashback and its such a hassle. Last time there was $10 from menulog and when it eventually got credited it was 9.42. At that point I could no longer bother messaging them back and forth.

The classic ol "upto" where the only thing that reaches the maximum discount in the shop is a pencil worth $0.80

  • I've never bought anything on groupon. Are there many genuine bargains? Is it things like cheap tickets or cheap restaurant deals that people mostly buy?

    • Some very decent restaurant deals if you look around. Never used travel deals before but they look pretty good too, I've heard good things

    • +1

There are some pretty good bargains, I use it every now and then when looking at restaurants.

Especially with discounts + cashback it becomes pretty cheap.

Most recently was when I was in Melbourne CBD, 2 bubble teas for ~$3.50 total after cashback when usually they're like $4-5 each.

      • I'm probably just self conscious, but I always feel weird using some sort of voucher for a restaurant.

        • Yeah I know what you mean, I did as well the first time, but after that you realize how easy it is and the staff never really judge you or anything.

Just show them the code, they scan it, and done :)

        • Same, and ive been a merchant accepting these as well.

          I usually leave a hefty/decent tip,
Makes me feel better and hopefully they do too

          • @Samsungnote10: So what was the point of scrounging around on the internet for discount codes if you're just going to blow it all (the savings) and then some on a tip?

            • @CrankyCarrot: Obviously i dont leave 100% tip:)

For me, for example, ill get a $100 meal for $50 via groupon, at a place ill probably not go to normally,
Ill leave a $10 to $20 tip if its great.

I ve had a good meal, plus i feel good leaving a decent tip, the smile (most of the time) of the staff receiving the tip

              Everybody wins!

              • +1

@Samsungnote10: Well, alright if it makes you happy.

Personally I'm comfortable being a personable customer who leaves a zero dollar tip. Each to their own.

        • Grandpa agrees, it makes him feel second rate.

As a student and on a budget I'm totally fine with it - I'm still a paying customer.

    • I find it good for event tickets/activities. can be more than half the price of what it is on the owners website.

You have to really do your research before you buy. Always check the reviews for every place before you buy, not just the reviews on Groupon but also Google, zomato etc.
Always read the fine print. There's always some catch about when you can redeem, how long it lasts for etc. If you're ok with both these things then buy… But also remember to actually use it !

      • Totally agree. I got burned from blackout dates/times in the past.

Takes a bit of work but before buying:
        * Use the shopback app + groupon app to reduce chances of being untracked.
        * Look at reviews on Google, Groupon, etc.
        * Look at the blackout times
        * Look at the blackout dates
        * Use the appointment tool before buying to check available dates. I've been burned too many times finding out that the place has been booked up on every reasonable date and time till the expiry date.
        * read the fine print for inclusions/exclusions

    • Godiva and Max Massage Melb

      Novelty? Sticks, Corndog.

    • Paesano Buffet for $247 for 6 people last time with the 20% cashback. Normally $50pp without drinks. This included drinks (alcoholic as well) so it's a decent saving

Just wait until next week. 10% off site wide will be back. The regular discounting cycle is just starting.

    • +1

I don't know how it would affect cashback but try an old code and they usually still work.
ie, SALE30 gives me 5% on everything I've tested with so far. QUICK10 comes back with:
"QUICK10 has expired. But we still want you to get extra savings. Take 10% off (up to $50) with this discount!"

  • Does anyone think they'd have an issue using a restaurant voucher including dishes for 4 people, but only 3 turn up?

    • +1

We did this recently and the restaurant just served us whatever servings/drinks was on the voucher. YMMV

    • We are 3 adults. I get worried buying when it says 4ppl. So I don't buy thses type of vouchers.

    • +6

No.4 is coming, he's late, we'll order now for him. And then ugh he doesn't show. ;)

  • These "up to" codes never work out to be more than 5% or 10% for me. I just keep on creating new accounts for the 15% off.

    • totally agreed.

  • Do try "SALE15" and compare which one gives you higher discount.
I tried "SALE15" and Groupon says the code has expired but as a good gesture, allow me to use it.
I got more discount using SALE15

May be ineligible for cashback though.
