          No, the $5 is for the PC pass only (Beta), not ultimate. That's what it'll say on the page if you look closer.
          Try my suggestion below, wait until your pass actually ends then check the new signup price for ultimate on this page, you should get the $1 promo. It worked for me but no guarantees, though you also got nothing to lose by trying this.

            @wangasm: So, subscription lapsed and it offered me both 3 months Game Pass PC beta and Ultimate for $1 each.
            I thought I would play it a little and sign on to PC, then to ultimate so I would get 4 months for $2, but it wouldn't let me do that:
            After signing up to PC, and refreshing ultimate's offer for $1 still available, it came u with an error message "You're trying to downgrade your membership." or something of that sort.
            I just got refunded for my PC membership and will just get the $1 Ultimate, it'll last me another month.

      The trick I found is if you are an existing member and let your subscription expire (no auto renew) you are sometimes given a promotional price like this one. I did this last month on the day my sub expired and I signed up again for 3 months Ultimate for $1.

          I don't think anyone's hurt, you're just posting obvious facts in a negative manner and people are responding in kind. It's probably because you're a PS fanboy, I prefer PS to Xbox but I'll still play the good Xbox games on PC, especially at this price.

            Movies and games are the same thing for this discussion - the internet isn't a physical tangible object that you would pay for and keep - it's a service. Movies and games are (or were). Now, movies and games they are becoming a service, which works for some people and not for others.

            And if you were really interested, no, I don't pay for Netflix. I'm not a movie collector, but I am a physical game collector.

    I literally just purchased the $1 game pass for one month yesterday. What happens if i cancel? Will i still be able to purchase this one?

      I think you can do that. I did the $1 for 1 month trial a couple of months ago and then towards the end I cancelled and selected the "refund" option. It both gave me the $1 back as a refund and then I could do the $1 for 1 month trial again. It's a bit of a bug with how they handle the trials. Theoretically you could have game pass forever for $1 by just refunding each month.

        I only did to get the extra few months they were giving away with it the last time. IMHO, after a bit of reading, no, I don't think there's any extra benefit.

        I've also asked xbox support how I can downgrade back to just the PC thing so that my other promo codes could work to their full value instead of being downgraded to 2 months of ultimate, but he said there was no way. At this point, the only way to get back to PC only is to wait for it to lapse/expire and subscribe again.

        I'm on 10 in a share house. So literally a week to download any bigger recent game if I don't want to hog all the bandwidth and have 3 other people ready to murder me.

          According to this, it’s possible to limit Xbox download bandwidth via a Windows setting, if that helps. If not, there are 3rd-party applications to limit bandwidth for a specific PC or application (and would probably allow you to schedule a higher limit at certain times of day).

          At 3Mbit, a game like Red Dead Redemption 2 (108GB) should theoretically download in half a week.

      Depends if it's on cloud save. Some games load your save from your online profile while others load it from a save stored on your computer.

      Although yesterday when I first opened halo reach, it prompted me to login and showed my available Microsoft accounts even though only one of them had the game pass. YMMV.

        Every game I've played seems to use cloud saves. I've uninstalled a few games due to issues and my save file always comes back once I go through the sign-in part.

        But you can still back the saves up manually, just need to find the path (which can be a challenge due to UWP bullshit). Giving yourself access to the WindowsApps folder and trawling through the directories usually yields something :)

      I think it means it offers in-app purchases, so it's "free" with Game Pass but you can still spend more money on it.
