Stumbled across this one and it's been a while since this deal was active so I thought I'd share.

Ahh… US Netflix only for PC users still….

    • Yeah I'm pretty cranky about that - although I have not done anything about it.

I basically use this to allow Hulu now, and that's about it.

      • +1

Same, Hulu and the odd other thing. But for the price I paid 5 or something years ago, it's been worth it for my Hulu sub.

I used to have Getflix on my router but now it just lives on my laptop.

      • Yeah we use it for Hulu and its been flawless for that. I found Netflix to always be a bit hit and miss even back in the day and we're happy with the AU Netflix catalogue.

    • Pretty sure i've used the US netflix (old lifetime account) in the last few months but the performance was still pretty crappy. Still pretty happy with the service overall other than the Vudu issues over my Roku which is another which works on the desktop but not on the media player.

    • they only guarantee US Netflix on the PC, but it works for me and others on other devices
e.g. i've got it working on my Samsung TV, the Vodafone TV box and various tablets.

just had to set static routes, and it does take a little bit to load up but once it's up and running it's all good. but ymmv

    • Honestly I don’t use it for Netflix at all. I use it for Hulu and BBC iPlayer and the VPN you get with it works well. And the iPhone app for turning off and on the VPN is pretty handy too.

    More Negative votes than positive,

  • Why is Netflix US better than AU?

    • +13

US Netflix has a much bigger catalogue of shows and movies, which means you can spend longer flicking through them all.

      • +7

and still have trouble finding something worth watching…

      • +2

Only to watch something that you have seen thirty times already

    • Netflix US catalogue has about 5000 titles, compared to Oz with about 2000.

    • Not better per se, but they have different shows, so one may use a service like this to be able to watch a wider array content.

    • +1

I stopped caring a long time ago. I struggle to get watch Netflix's shows I like let alone their other content.

Plus the AU service gets a lot of content the US don't get from their other output deals (eg Star Trek Discovery, Titans etc).

    • Its not. There are some titles in AU Netflix that you can't get on US Netflix and some titles on US Netflix that you can't get on AU Netflix. But being able to access all of the libraries is pretty cool. Originally Getflix used to provide support for dozens of countries. Between all of them there wasn't a movie you couldn't get a hold of (only a small fraction). These days…its just US Netflix that is supported…not fully by these promo memberships though.

Neg vote, lifetime subscriptions get a 2nd rate service.

    • +1

Second this - it's not the full service you get as a standard subscriber

      • What is different?

        • +3

Netflix US basically doesn’t work or is patchy at best. They make lifetime sub owners pay extra for “full Netflix”.

          • @AaronR: Not quite (as far as I am aware).

A standard getflix sub allows you to use device specific Netflix apps for geo unblocking (eg on appletv, PS4 etc) where the lifetime sub will only function within a web browser. Could still stream that to a tv, but it just adds another layer of stuff.

  • +9

I bought a lifetime membership and then they removed the main thing that I bought it for from it (Netflix) - caveat emptor!

    • +1

What was the outcome when you reported it to your local consumer protection authority? You entered into a contract with them, and it is their obligation to fulfil it or refund you fully. It might just pay to contact Getflix and remind them of your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

      • +3

Well Getflix is a company owned by another operating out of East Africa (Seychelles). They've registered their .AU domain name using a fake ACN that doesn't show up in the ABR and therefore the ACCC can't do shit.

As far as I'm concerned they can get (profanity). They're a sleazy company pretending to have an Australian presence and selling cut-rate products that don't work.

        • +2

This surely has to be illegal. In order to get a .au domain you have to be an Australian business (hence the ABN requirement). It can't be legal to falsify that. time for digitalane to contact ACCC.

          • +1

@oznate: It is illegal. Not sure how they got it at all. The ACN provided when doing a WHOIS lookup doesn't match anything in the ABR.

Searching for Getflix however brings up ABN 56 971 373 515 which is a currently registered company owned by The Trustee for Bothe Family Trust. That entity is represented by Casbo Holdings Pty Ltd with a registered address in Mt Eliza which happens to match the current postcode listed on the Getflix ABN I linked earlier.

        • +1

When they began they were Australian owned. Sold on. Crap service thereafter. My initial Lifetime Getflix was great, worked well with netflix in many different regions. Its rubbish now and I would not recommend it, if Netflix is why you’d get it. Get DNS4me instead.

        • They've registered their .AU domain name using a fake ACN that doesn't show up in the ABR(abr.business.gov.au) and therefore the ACCC can't do shit.

They have a legitimate ACN and you can find it via ASIC.

  • can anyone tell me if they use getflix for china streaming? does it work well?

    • I had no luck in December. Ended up using my work's cisco VPN…

Got sucked into there life time second rate deal a couple of years ago and havent used it totally useless with Netflix etc they changed the rules for thelife time service after the purchase I know lots of ozbargainers got caught with this dodgy offer. Beware.

  • +4

False advertising - "lifetime" users get second rate service

  • +3

Don't waste your money it never seems to work for anything anymore.

  • +2

Have Getflix, but find it unreliable. Am using dns4me and so far has been great.

  • +2

A lifetime membership is actually a disadvantage. You get very limited services with it. I know because I've got one.

  • I got this a long time ago but have had the same issue with it no longer working for US Netflix.

Luckily though it still works fine with their VPN servers, only ever use them when I use Channel BT and usually get full speeds (some servers are hit and miss but using one of the Canadian ones works well) so still getting some value out of it.

Think I only paid about ~$50 for it though so in reality it has paid for itself with the use I’ve had, but still couldn’t recommend it for this price for people.

Hope I have longer than 30 years left in my life :|

Everyone should know that Getflix is a company owned by another operating out of East Africa (Seychelles). They've registered their .AU domain name using a fake ACN that doesn't show up in the ABR(abr.business.gov.au) and therefore the ACCC can't do shit.

Don't waste your money on these con artists.

    • They have a legitimate ACN and you can find it via ASIC.

  • I bought lifetime ages ago for US Netflix, but I haven't had that work in ages.
I have been using this flawlessly for VPN with decent speeds though :)

  • +5

I bought this lifetime offer about 5 years ago for about $45aud (aud was stronger then).

For Netflix use there is little value in this offering, but for everything else, BBC, ITV, CH4 UK and most USA sites it works perfectly.

Great Value if you're after access to those services.

    • +1

Same here, no good for non AU Netflix, but works great with Hulu and Zattoo

      • Indeed, they are shooting themselves in the foot by maintaining the "getflix" branding, which implies Netflix support.

  • Everyone should know that Getflix is a company owned by another operating out of East Africa (Seychelles). They've registered their .AU domain name using a fake ACN that doesn't show up in the ABR(abr.business.gov.au) and therefore the ACCC can't do shit.

    • +1

But they've been around for ages, I'm ok feeding those starving Africans.

    • As long as it works I'm happy to be paying whoever. Just me

  • To be fair - for iPlayer alone its worth it - but annoying they devalaued it after I’d purchased it

  • Any suggestions on similar product, more speed than using VPN?

  • Thanks for this OP - it reminded me to check my Getflix subscription that I thought I had cancelled. Turns out if was going to renew today for $24!

  • yup agree with all comments here on second rate service. netflix works on your browser but not tv for lifetime users.

  • Its basically a garbage account now. I bought one of these many years ago when it all worked fine. I got a lot of good years out of it, certainly my moneys worth. These days though, its a cut down product that barely works and when it does…its sporadic at best. Official reply from Getflix support below:

Regarding the Netflix US issue, please be advised that Netflix US is only available for PC/Mac browsers for 3rd party promo or trial accounts. This is due to Netflix network change. So we can only provide US Netflix access to our website 1,3,6,12 and 24-month subscribers. This information is already provided on our website and the promo site you've purchased.

So basically if you want to watch Netflix on your PC, you can. If you want to use Chromecast or Netflix apps on TV's, etc. You cannot.
