  • I picked up the last one at Erina, NSW - sorry to the local ozbargain coasties heading there

  • got one at the local HN At brisbane . 16gb was gone after 26 mins only 32gb.

  • would this be the all time bargain of the year?

    • that ps3 for 200 at toys r us was pretty sick at the time, since months later everyone is still raving about a 300 one….

edit; that was last year…. ifail

Found on Slickdeals that barnes and noble has it on sale if anyone wants to import one http://bit.ly/nfYUX1

I dont think i need one but i want one

    • u want one? let me know so we can share the shipping cost

    • "Ships to contiguous 48 states only"

May be worth a try though

      • shipito.

      • no, I already have an order with a shipping agent. I bought one already, maybe I will buy 1 more for my brother… The marginal shipping cost is cheap, I think ~$10-15 AUD per touchpad…

    • Thanks Anthony - it worked and I had one in my basket but then I dawdled to finish the purchase and & lost it! Silly me - thought I was safe onec in the shopping basket. Good find on your part though.

  • +1

16Gb all gone at Tamworth, only a few 32Gb models left. So many old people there buying them…such a cruel world…

  • got one 32gb from alexandria.

  • So are the only reasons to buy this (and consider it as a bargain) for the hardware and the hope that an Android port will come out?

    • thats a hope not a promise…

      • Yeah but with 1/4 of a million geeks owning them and trying to do this I bet its pretty much guaranteed…

    • +5

      Not at all.
For the price its a damn cheap media player.
Also good for browsing the web.
There is quite a lot you could use it for with a bit of imagination and best of all you dont have to worry about breaking it.

    Any left on the GC?

  • +1

Any ozbargainer willing to sell one, I'd love to take it, missed out at HN Lakehaven and Domayne Gosford. :(

  • +1

will HN sell it again tomorow ? sydney martin place sold out now , i think?

    • +2

Highly doubt HN will have any left in stock by tomorrow. At the rate they were offloading them, you'd think they were filled with explosives or something!

And martin place sold out hoursss ago. In fact, I rang at 1:50pm and they had sold out already (apparently)

    • -1

      I'm looking for a resale….

    • -1

me too. would love one if you'd like to sell

    • +6

The deals on this website are not for the likes of you!

    • +5

I hope karma gets you and that you suffer the pain of a thousand urinary tract infections.
Reselling just stops others getting access to a bargain.

    • +1

Shame on you, first i thought you're buying them for your family.

    • If we go by the existing price cuts, $599 - $148 in 7 Days, you would have to list them on Ebay for -2 days to make any profit! The price will be only going one way on these things……

    • -1

      How much?

    • +4

      Brodening.

  • will they stock more at the same price?!
Must have sold more than 50,000 units today i say.
That means the Android port must be on the way…at least someone bored at home is gonna come up with one.

    • It was a fire sale, because HP is abandoning the Tablet and Phone market.

    • The link in the post said HN was trying to get rid of its remaining 4800 units…Gerry must be kicking himself for setting the price too low :)

      • +1

The price's been set by HP, I don't think Gerry would've dared to set it any higher, seeing as how HP in the US has sold the tablet at that price too. There'd be waay too much protest about it, of all the aussies crying "Aussies getting shafted again!". Gerry would lose what little public support he still has about how online commerce is "killing" Aussie retailers.

  • +1

Harvey Norman, some people got the registered piece of paper but was told it was computer glitch and all sold out. Yeah right, I believe the staff and family must have taken from those unfortunate customers.

    • +1

Yeah in Townsville store, I saw at least 3 staff members walking around with 2-3 each. Ridiculous, we asked the manager and he said he'd fire anyone he caught… But he seemed content with the staff walking around with them.

  • This must be the fastest +ve gaining post on Ozbargain.
    2 hours = 200+ +ves

    • And they're mine - ALL MINE! Mwahahahahahaha!
      .
      .
      .
      What do I win?

      • if you have one you want to sell, then you win some $ from me and some gratitude :)

        • nah - only allowed to buy 1 where I went - tried to buy one for the wife and BIL - no dice

  • +1

Just got one through barnesandnoble.com from the US. I have a friend coming to visit soon so it will be a good surpise when it arrives, hopefully by then I will be able to put Android OS on it.

  • i got one 32 gb! Very Happy!!!

  • "The company confirmed earlier this afternoon that, while stocks last, the 16GB and 32GB versions would be sold through Harvey Norman and HP's online store for $99 and $149, respectively."

  • +4

I really have no idea on why HP is trying to kill off this device this quick.

To be honest I rather they donate all touchpad to people who really need a computer device and cannot afford them.

    • +3

$98 pretty much is a donation.

    • +1

Indeed. Most of these buyers just want to make a quick buck, I'm sorry for those who are actually after a good tablet for a while but genuinely couldn't afford them.

      • i am one of those can't afford a good tablet guy!!
so…should I be going for one of these and hope the android os is soon to be available?

  • +2

I saw this deal before 2pm and I wasn't interested, but now everyone's talking about them…and I kinda want one.

  • dont limit yourself to HN. My brother picked mine up from Domayne

    • +1

      Fyshwick in ACT, sold out.

  • +3

I got to HN Auburn just before 3 and and they were sold out.

Overheard the team member talking to another customer:

"We had the most stock in Australia but they were all gone within 30 minutes! I don't know how people found out about this thing…"

    hehe

    • +2

Haha :) Are people really that ignorant of how fast word spreads these days?

  • +1

Got a 32GB from Moonah for $149 at about 2:30. Think they had about 10 left, no 16GBs

  • +1

Clive Peeters and Harvey Norman Morayfield sold out ;( anyone wanna sell me one?

  • +1

i got my 16gb. i have it next to me and i dont know what to do with it :/

    • +2

      sell it to me

  • its a 100 dollar gamble to see if android is ported. Without apps or 3G, tablets are pretty pointless.

    • I thought about this but quickly dismissed it.. i'll give them 2 weeks tops to have some form of Android on it, easy. But even if they don't, WebOS does actually have a fair few apps already, certainly enough to make a $100 capacitive-touch IPS tablet worth it. Just think of all the new potential developers they've snagged in the fire sale =D

    • android port obstacles,

      touchpad specs,
      - 1024 x 768 resolution, only 1 very unpopular honeycomb device (availability unknown) has this same res. Honeycomb apps were mostly written for 1280 x 800.
      - HP is the only device maker using the Dual core, Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060, architecture for android port is totally unknown at this stage
      - bootloader, no one knows how the bootloader is handled
      - OS maintenance, no one company has any stake on the OS anymore, who would be responsible for its Android updates, bug fixes, etc. as well as timely releases, if its free no one can complain how often it will be updated.

    • +1

Seriously? IMO apps and 3G are probably the least important features of a tablet. All that they do is make it into an expensive, glorified, bulky & underpowered portable console. The main features to get out of them are the web browsing, videos, photos, and maybe email, for use around the home (or maybe videos on public transport if that's what you want it for). The HP already has these features built in.

If all you want a tablet for is 3G and apps then IMO you're doing it wrong.

      • +2

If your just using it around the house, then what's the point of portability? Might as well get a netbook which runs windows. You can watch a lot more videos, larger hard drive, more battery life. and do much more than you can on WebOS. E.g. Asus 1015B for $230. (id think most people would pay that extra amount for all that you get)

But each to his own I guess. Im only basing this on my own use of my galaxy tab (only $299), and what I find most useful is the 3G (email, messaging, browsing, GPS navigation, video calling on the go). And android apps are quite handy (find parking, barcode scanner, shazam, weather, games). At home i have my laptop for everything else. But hey, if android gets ported onto this device quite soon, it wont be bad for $100, because next year there will most likely be many more android tablets at around the $100 price range.

        • This tablet is smaller, easier to hold, easier to use (touchscreen over keyboard) and cheaper than a netbook. Basically everything that you use your tablet for "on the go" can be done by a phone, and usually is better suited to a phone (much more portable).

        • I dont get your point. So outside the house, you should use a phone since its 'much more portable'…but inside the house you need to use a tablet….errr you can still use a phone there too because phones can also handle 'web browsing, videos, photos, email'. But I suppose what you mean is that since the screen is bigger, its probably easier and more enjoyable to watch movies, view photos etc on it at home. Yeah i agree. Fact is, you do all those things with the unit on a table. Unless you're walking around the house watching a movie, its probably better to pay the 200 or 300 hundred for a netbook or invest in a decent laptop/desktop to do all that (since you'll probably be needing a computer anyway).

I invested in a 3G tablet (for 299, cheaper than any phone with those specs) because tablets are meant to be portable devices that you take around with you (not just for home). Without android/iOS apps or wireless internet (inbuilt 3G or via USB), a tablet is just a keyboard-less netbook that does not have the software to harness any of its potential.

But i suppose if you are really tight and dont want to pay a cent more than $98 (even if it means a better, more functional device) OR you've never used a tablet and just want to get your hands on the cheapest one (as i think most buyers are), then its a good deal. But if I were in your shoes, id be hoping it gets android real soon! Otherwise you'll be bored of it within the month.

  • Perth: City West sold out

  • +2

im getting one from barnesandnoble shipped here from the states :D screw lining up heh. Heard you can probably put ubuntu on it. would be a fun thing to do if possible

    • which shipping agent did u use? and how much? (I used comgateway, i think it's less than $30)

listed for $299 at 4pm, sold for $250 at 4.06pm

    (no, it wasn't me)

    • i offered 98 for it, lol :(

  • anyone still get one in Melbourne?

  • +1

they should have put it on harvey norman big buy :)

    • they should have.

    • But then they might have actually sold something on big buy.
It seems to me like they are pretty desperate for big buy to fail.

  • +8

At 209PM at liverpool, they said 12 left, i was 15th person in line….so know the pain that the others feel….but if you want to know whats more devastating is found on a friend of mines got one at 150PM and he told me 16GB at liverpool sold out at 140PM because of staff knocking them all up…..wow ultimate shitgo.
I wouldve have got one, but went to pick up a friend nearby so she could get one, and didnt think tehy would open it before 2PM….

I mean some people might say there wouldve been a big line and if u missed it you missed it, but no exactly because when you open it before 2PM, you have people there that chuck dodgies and line up again and again and again, seriously these guys had like 10.

So depressing when you hear, them speaking in chinese and they say, something something EEE Bayy Lah something something….fml

anyways im not being racist, im chinese too….but i guess neg if you must.

    • +2

That's not racist at all. It's perfectly fine to talk badly about your own race. It's only racist when you talk about another race. /troll

    • +1

nope that's perfectly fine, people who are profiteering from this should be shot on sight.

      massive ebay trolls today

    • +4

It's mostly Singaporeans who like to end their sentences with "lah", most Chinese don't.

  • Anyone want to resell theirs (+$50)?
Really wanted to get one for dad for father's day.

    • barnes and noble now! just started

  • +6

I think HP TOUCHPAD has outsold more Ipad2 in a day!!! :P

    • And it will be soldout just as quick ;)

  • wow that has really taken off!

  • +1

I've got my Craptus MyTab and I'm happy with that! This thing is not supported with any 3rd party apps. If you like web browsing, then this will be for you.

    • +3

The MyTab and Touch Pad arn't in the same league.

  • Gold Coast all gone
    HN Bundall/Tweed
    Domaine & clive Peters
    zero stock

    • +7

You forgot GST (US aren't required to list sales tax). Get your facts right before sprouting rubbish.

      • +8

Yeah, we actually got a good deal in AUS for once. I was expecting $150 AU for the 16gb.

        • +3

Plus, we get the guaranteed warranty from ACCC as well, not like our US counterparts who are sold these devices with no warranty anymore. Ours at least should have a government-mandated 12 months of warranty with it.

    • +4

      There's always one isn't there? $98 and he still isn't happy…
I'm sure many ozbargainers will gladly take it off your hands if you don't want it?

  • +1

dandenong, cranbourne, frankston all out, decided to go see clive peters in dandy, thats finally closed down also!
