Some speculation out there that it's a glitch on B&N's website, and any orders will be cancelled on Monday (their time). They've been selling the 16GB for a few hours now, and many people are saying that it's unlikely that B&N have enough stock to fulfil all the orders placed in that time.

I don't think it's the best idea to buy it for others at this stage.

        • mmm…now this is worrying…wat to do…wat to do…

        • I can vouch for this. Ordered one earlier this afternoon with B&N, order went through, and my order status just switched to 'Unable to process order. Please call 1-877-379-0036, or 212-414-6024, if outside U.S.'

Maybe they're just going to tell me they're getting new stock….not holding my breath though.

      • I'll Buy One!

    • Can you get me one PLEASE!!!!

      • dunno mate…see jump22's comment re. glitch….

    • -3

If anyone wants to buy the 16GB one for $101.95 + 50 (freight). Email me through my profile.
I might wait til later tonight to see if the B&N are really having a glitch tho…

  • HN Ballarat and Bendigo sold out! I didn't need one anyway have barely used the mytab since I got it:)

  • +16

Picked one up from Harvey Norman Joondalup this morning.

Asked for the 16gb, was told it was sold out, grabbed a 32gb instead, took it to the front counter, they only charged me for a 16gb! woot!!

    They're completely sold out now.

Win of double happiness! (no one cares about Gerry so well done)

      • +1

awesome, well done mate. might've been good to blur out the reps name, no point getting them in trouble for not checking what they sold you!

      • +1

        well done!!!

      • +2

        Well done! Double win!

      • Sold at 12:07. I thought sale started at 14:00

  • Been trying to nab one of these all weekend online, rung up and had one on hold and then went up and lined up with everyone else who just rocked up instead of pushing in to get my hold order. They sold out after half an hour of lining up and had accidentally given away my reserved tablet.

I've got one on order using a freight forwarder from amazon USA but I'm not too confident about the order going through (and its an extra $50). Bummer, hopefully it goes through.

    • Did they give you anything as compensation?

      • +1

why would they? they don't have an obligation to do reserves or meet them

  • sold out in Alexandria NSW, oh well.

  • Sold out within 10 mins @ Hobart store Picked up the third last 16gb out of 70 in store. Then went to Cambridge and bought one of the last 32gb's left for my son. :)

  • All I need now is some guides on how to get it going, d/l apps etc. Any good forums/sites for this? Lots of Ozbargainers would probably sign up.

  • I know $99 is cheap but like SMH says, what's the point to buy a tablet with only few apps and none will be developed in the future? Use it to browse Internet and watch movies? Or I miss something here?

    • +1

chance of getting android and profit

      • keyword: ebay

    • That's pretty much what I bought mine for. Anyone I know with a tablet pretty much uses it for the same thing.

If they managed to flash Android onto it in the future thats just a bonus.

    • Internet and movies on a nice tablet is worth $99 in my opinion. Plus i think there will be more to come from both HP and the hacker community.

    • Good for Photo Frame. Web. Video. Already a bargain :)

Also, Android definitely would come :)

    • Ive actually been waiting to buy one to test some apps I developed….. time down the drain I guess…. working all day I will most likley miss out.

Unless anyone has one spare I can buy?

    • +1

Internet & watch movies is plenty enough.

  • I got a 16GB one (and 5 other people in my work place also got one) - the store up here sold out within 35 mins.

  • +2

If you want to have an idea if your store is sold out of these or not, here's a good link
    HP TOUCHPAD:WHIRLPOOL

I know it's bit of a read but just Ctrl+F

  • +6

Not gonna lie. I'm having a real bad case of sour grapes lol >.<

  • +1

scored one :) and yes - it's just for web browsing and maybe movies.

  • should we see it $99 aswell on HP website soon? (HP not HN) check this:

"HP confirmed earlier this afternoon that, while stocks last, the 16GB and 32GB versions would be sold through Harvey Norman and HP's online store for $99 and $149, respectively."

    from:
    http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/tablets/hp-touchpad-fire-…

    • +1

most probably not, you can try now it redirects you to HN webbie, this saves a lot of traffic problems for HP AU

    • HP are probably waiting for confirmation from HN have completely cleared out the 4800 stock they had on hand (assuming there are any left anywhere), as they were an exclusive retailer, before HP fiddle around with price on their website.

People ask, "is this the best ozbargain deal of all time?" Well, we've had some pretty good ones this year alone. The ones that come to mind are the Logitech 100% cashback and the staples 20 bux voucher. But this would definitely top 5

    • +1

Don't forget the SS GT 7"

    • Edit: Sorry for negging your post :S. At first I disagreed.. but after writing my post I came to a different conclusion. This indeed is a great deal… only I am very curious how inferior WebOS is compared to IOS and android. Obviously the range of apps would be much smaller and probably inferior, but if core functionality is reasonably good, then it could still be very useful.

  • +7

just picked up a 32gb one from moree… last one… and got it posted to Sydney for $20 postage! :)

Might be worth calling other country stores if you're still keen. But to save you some hassle, these stores are all out (dont ask how long it took to call…) Dubbo, Orange, Ballina, Bathurst, Canberra, newcastle, lismore, ballarat, mildura, wagga wagga, nowra, goulburn, albury, armidale.

    GOOD LUCK!

    • +1

well done, you deserve one after that effort!

  • +1

I was at HN chaddie at 3 PM and saw a lot of people going out with disappointment :)

  • +3

This would be the OZbargain all time best deal… if even 5% of the people who wanted this deal ended up getting it. Friend ended up queueing for 1 hour to get rejected. Ozbargain this is not.

  • -1

Does anyone know what time does the store close?

  • Anyone know if the Touchstone Docks for these things are available in Aus?

  • ANy news on chadstone?

    • +3

Chadstone was sold out at like 3pm.

  • Anyone know if Knox in Melb is sold out?

    • +2

      yeah all sold out unfortunately

    • It'd be a miracle if there're any more stock left by 4pm today. You should just call them and check.

      • Dont bother ,most places close to knox sold out at 2:10 ,i bolted to dandenong just before 2pm and they had already sold out ,did try everywhere from frankston to geelong but no luck

        • +1

was all stock sold or stolen at dandenong?

  • I wouldn't worry too much guys.

YOu'd think other aus retailers will drop their price not to mention US resellers :)

Anyone had any luck pricematching? Who else stocks these?

    • +1

only HN and clive peeters stock this

  • +1

A few people from Whirlpool and me are in the queue for the HP Store on the phone
    1300 304 889

    • I've been on hold for the past 45 mins! I wonder if they actually have any stock left.

      • Wonder if anyone actually working in their call centre?

        • Maybe they just have a whole bank of answering machines playing back that voicemail message.

    • did it work?

    • LOL i was on the phone, no answer for 20 mins gave up

I think its permanently on hold, I wonder what they gonna do with their online store, hope I'll be first in line this time ><

      • +1

Country VIC are probably the only ones with remaining stock in Victoria.

IMO, would be best to wait for HP online to start discounting their stock, similar to what happened with their microservers. HN had 4800 TouchPads at the start of the day, god knows how many HP have in their warehouse.

        • +1

there should be reserve stock still to come from their factories, you know, the ones that have been ordered for production and has been completed last week and not shipped to warehouse yet

          (fingers crossed)

  • +1

I was lucky. Got there at 2.10 pm. Bought 2. one for me and one for the father. Talking to people there they are only buying it because everyone else is. Hardly anyone knew what it was haha.

    • +4

lolz sounds like they should be lining up for the ipad

      • +8

if ipads were going for 99 bux. you'd see the line from the moon

      • +2

haha its funny cause the old man behind me was like is it like an ipad? I know how to use that. I laughed at that :D

        • +1

Technically it's like an Ipad lol.

But how come so many oldies went to HN to buy this kind of stuff? They had time of course but what was the point? I cannot see any apart from the fact they were buying on behalf of their naughty children ^_^.

  • +5

I just picked up 10 copies and I'm going to sell them on Ebay… lol jks, I'm not Broden

    • …but his long lost twin brother?

      • +1

        The non-evil one xD

  • -8

Bought 3 units- 2 32gb ones and 1 16gb from my local Harvey norman

    • any chance you can spare one to me :p

    • +1

You must be the Harvey Norman Staff that taken from some poor customer whom received a confirmatory ticket but end up with none.

  • +1

Just proves that there is a huge market for a cheap tablet and it does not matter that there is no support or new apps coming out for it. If only the cheap chinese android tablets can improve on quality I am sure they will be able to sell heaps more.

    • +7

highly unlikely, people are hyped to buy a global brand like HP for less than 100 bucks, but for that yumcha tablet? don't think so.
