I'll be your GF if you give me one :D

        • +1

          I am actually.

        • ^He asked me if I were Chinese not if I were female by the way :P

        • +3

yes…it seems he don;t care if you are female or male…

      • But I'm a guy lol.

Anyway the prices of many tablets will inevitably go down dramatically after this fire sale. Otherwise…

        • kheob should be a guy too.

      • That 's why he won't get the gift :D.

        • +2

          Sexist :(

  • Collectible huh??
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-16-GB-TouchPad-Wi-Fi9-7-Inch-T…

    A 16gb for only US$1400 (plus shipping…)

    • +2

First I thought its a typo. Then I realized the seller himself is a typo…

  • +1

"Unwanted gifts" ha! you'd be a fool to buy any of these HP craplets from ebay/gumtree.

    • +2

u'll be surprised how many "fools" are out there on ebay/gumtree! :)

      • +1

They paid 350 for an old Galaxy Tab on Ebay when it was selling for 299 on Telstra website…

  • got my bro to get me a 32gb in melbourne.

  • any idea where else i can get this deal?qv HV sold out…

    • +1

It's sold out everywhere, so no. Not unless HP decide to release more to HN (if they even have anymore).

jeez! Brave to have bought so many in advance!
I guess it paid off in record time!

@HP - Can I sign up to be a dealer? I only want to sell your unsupported tablets please!

  • I have the product page open in the HP AU Online Store. Refreshed it in another tab and now they have replaced it with a stupid printer deal.

Unlike as reported in the newspapers yesterday, I have a feeling HP wont be selling these directly from their online store as there's none left.

The only place they can now be found on their store is here:

    http://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/images/AUOLS_RS/cus…

with the 32gb model at $599 and 16gb or $499, but if you try to add them to the cart then they get substituted with the same stupid printer.

I rang HP sales and told that when more stock arrives it will go to Harvey Norman again. He did not know anything about what the future pricing would be.

      • He said "when" and not "if"? Does that mean there will be more stock coming?

      • I'm curious as to where this 'new stock' is coming from? Since Harvey Norman is the only official aussie retailer for TouchPads, it's not like stock will be returned to HP from other retailers and I'm sure HP isn't going to ship over left over stock from the US when they can easily sell it over there.

      haha nice find!

Not sure if this has been posted yet but make sure you download the box.net app as you get 50gb of free online storage with your Touchpad. Box.net can be set up as a network drive, accessed via any web browser and you can download the app for your other devices plus link it with google docs. 50gb free is pretty good!

proof that qualcomm has android 2.2 on the touchpad up and running! A bit strange though that they would get into this..

    • Anything's possible….given some of the comments that are posted on that site

  • What's the deal with apps and a limited selection in Aus? Is it possible to register it to Aus and change to the US later to access ALL the apps?

  • +1

On the news, there were 6000 units sold all across HN, which I thought is a very small amount comparing to US Best Buy alone sold 200,000. I bet there will be more stock coming up for AU

    • "I bet there will be more stock coming up for AU"

I will try to be faster off the mark next time, but so will everyone else.

  • I wish they would give us some information about whether there will be more stock since I'm waiting with bated breath here :(.

    • +1

if they do, get ready to start queueing up from 8am!

      • I joined the iPhone 4 queue at 5 sharp though…

      http://handbrake.fr/

I put a couple of MKV's on and it played them all fine, even the 1080p ones.. Very impressed.

There is also a media player called 'Kalemsoft' that you can install, it will play everything else.

      • +1

I tried to find Kalemsoft in the apps but had no luck - where did you get it from? Maybe I missed it…

        • +3

Not listed in apps (well, not the AU one). I had to side-load it via WebOS Quick Installer. Pretty easy actually!

          KalemSoft Media Player
          http://www.kalemsoft.com/site/downloads2.html

WebOS Quick Install 4.2.3 (Windows program)
          http://forums.precentral.net/canuck-coding/274461-webos-quic…

Requires the device to be in dev mode (hot tip: type the Konami code into the search bar - as words).

        • Thanks mate!

        • Kalemsoft is the way to go - just drag and drop .avi files and it plays them all perfectly! No need for any encoding. This tablet went from being useful to now perfect! Thanks for posting this info ryang. And Konami code… ha funny stuff.

      • thanks 4 the help

      • @ ryang, good info mate, i wish i could have got one:(

    • Its not a lame joke, is it? The bloke must have some sense of humour.

  • If anyone has one that wish to sell please let me know! im happy up to $150. [email protected] thanks everyone! :) i wash stuck at work :( and would of loved to by one for my son

    • +1

Yeah I don't think anyone is going to sell it for $150 when they can get $300 on eBay.

      • +2

I know but i thought i might ask :) hopefully there is someone nice :)

        • Actually I reckon 150-180 should be the price on Ozbargain. On Ebay for a 16GB they are selling round 240. 300 is for the 32GB. When they deduct all the fees only have round 215. Then if sth happens, like an unhappy/dissatisfied client, many issues will arise. Here is one off.

        • considering people do not mind the hassle to buy one at around $150 from overseas, you may have a better chance if willing to pay up to $200, IMO

        • Im happy to pay up to $130-$180 for one, if anyone has one please let me know :) thanks :)

    • Yea if anyone else wants to get rid of theirs i can make use of it.

    • i'd wait a bit and see if the buying frenzy blows over, once people cool down maybe ebay prices will come down tho reasonable levels

  • +3

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Harvey Norman will not be selling any more
    http://twitter.com/HarveyNormanAU

    • the touchpad hype train needs to die

    • To which tweet are you referring? From what I can gather he is saying that all stock is sold out but hasn't said anything about no more stock coming in.

      • +3

        do you not read?

        HarveyNormanAU Harvey Norman AU
        @
@bexstar2010 Hi sorry no more stock coming as the product is sold out and discontinued.

Australia had a very late start on the touchpad launch, I doubt HN ordered more stock than the 6000 circulating around the country now.

        • -3

Must have missed that one since there were so many tweets on the matter. You didn't have to be a twat about it.

        • +4

kheob: It does say about 100 times on their twitter
"sold out no more coming in"
          "discontinued, not a chance"
          "no chance, no more"

It's pretty specific no more stock is coming in….

        • I was just asking which tweet he was talking about since there were so many and most of them were ambiguous (i.e. saying that it's sold out but not saying if they were getting more stock). Yes I see the tweets now - I somehow missed it looking through the first time. Thanks for the neg though as all I wanted was clarification.

      • +1

kheob: you calling people twat's without spending more than 5 seconds reading? That deserves a neg, sorry.

  • "Hi sorry no more stock coming as the product is sold out and discontinued."

    • considering how tight lipped they were yesterday about what was happening at 2pm, they may just be saying this. or it may be that its discontinued in the sense it is not being made anymore however they are selling off the remaining units when hp deliver them to hn

i suspect tho that hn wont get anymore, hp is paying back hn for their losses, hp will sell the remaining units

      • Well, I can't speak for anyone from HN, but I can say that stocks from another company are completely gone…..

        • Harvey Norman was the only store with them

      • I doubt they would import anymore just to give them away…but who knows

  • if hp states there will be more stock then there is, hp owns the stock not you.

    • that is HP in America, not Australia

  • 1 per cusomer?

    • +4

yeah would of been good if they actually thought it through.. instead of letting greedy pirates buy 10x just to onsell and make 100-150 each!!!

      • At Broadmeadows Melbourne I saw a staff member selling four to what were clearly his family. He said it was technically one per customer. Which was funny because one of them was a 7 year old kid and the other was a baby not more than 12 months old. I had one in my hand and people kept coming in looking for them to only be told that they were sold out and I had the last one. Which was a lie…I could hear the quiver in his voice as he had no conviction in what he was saying.

I kept pointing to the staffer at the back corner who was processing the order for four units and telling people to go complain and make a fuss.

Sure enough the manager did 'find' 4 more units out the back. I'm guessing there are some staffers at that HN who weren't too happy with me as they watched their Touchpads walk out the door. ha ha ha

But I saw heaps of people walking out with 2+ units…

    • +2

too effin late for that now, the next few days you will see comments here from scalpers.

theres more stock on this website… but don't no if u can order from australia…
    32GB - https://www.insight.com/search/ppp.web?materialId=FB356UT%23… (5615 units instock as i type..)

also herd theres more stock form HP returns from retailers.. once its returns hp website will accept orders but i think US website only.. not Aus…

    • +3

Hahaha as soon as i clicked it was dead. This could be fun just posting random websites here claiming that there is a shiny new touchpad for sale and basically DOS attack that website.

      32GB touchpads for sale here

      • NSFW ~ ;)

        • Tasteful shot though..

      • I saw it at 304 but it's all gone now

    • That page is dying now?

    • Need a US address :(

      • +2

Dont think i want to go through the trouble of ordering from US…

        • +1

          Exactly my thoughts

    • This link actually worked. TO me to the point of checking-out and it crashed.
Now there is a notice saying site is down for maintenance!

Not sure if these guys ship to Australia though

  • If hp usa has stock dont you think they would ship it to aus hp? Thats what happens when we r out stock, and if they r trying to clear it faster and it sells faster here, they prob send us some.

    • +3

hp usa has no problem clearing their own stock btw :)

    • doubtful and wishful thinking. Why would they spend all that money on freight? They'll be trying to minimize losses as it is.

    • +1

It's selling just as fast in the US, so there's no point in them gathering a few thousand devices then sending them over here when they can sell them just as fast over there.

& HP USA are out of stock. Retailers are the ones still selling the devices.

  • +2
    • just put an order for 4. Aussie CC went through. Will ship to mate place in US. Hopefully all goez good.

    • Slow already

    • how do u make it ship to australia?

      • you need to use a forwarder, such as "hopshopgo"

        • thank you!!

    • seem to work…. Shipping only to US and Canada

    • How much is the shipping to Australia (through hopshopgo)?

      • +1

        i believe $24 for first 0.5kg then $4 for each 0.5kg after
not sure how heavy the hp touchpad is though in the box, can anyone confirm its weight?

        • -1

          lol f that.

      • +1

There are some hidden charges though therefore I reckon should be 40-45 for one Touchpad and much fewer for each additional.

        • A few other issues: shipping time, they might not send it to you at all, and if you do receive it without problems esentially it will be without warranty (unless you want to ship it back to the US in case anything goes wrong). Overall I would rather buy it for $250 locally, which I do not plan to do as that is crazy.

        • The only extra charge is for fuel ($3.04 - $3.10 this month), which is charged by DHL. No taxes or duties are due because Australia allows a shipping value of <$1000AUD to be imported without being GST applicable.

The touchpad itself weighs in at 1.6lbs so I assume packaged with the charger, manual, USB cable and whatever else, the total weight will come in at probably just under 3.5lbs which is about 1.6kg. So the total shipping cost should come in at around $35 for a single TouchPad.

    • Ordered one using http://www.comgateway.com to freight forward.

Expecting my ordered to be cancelled like BN was. But even if Erwin screws up, you can always call the CC issuer and get it charged back if you are scammed.

  • I decided against after checking the ratings of this seller, risk too high I reckon. not worth the hassle.
