  • How much is it normally for this used graphics card?

    • you can check ebay, you can probably find them for <$100 if you're lucky, but these are pretty close to rx 570's, which are $170 new retail

      • thanks

        • Your welcome

I just bought one of these instead for $79 USD inc GST: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10000058304439.html?spm=a2g0…. ~$15AUD aliexpress shopback cashback has already tracked, making it about $100 AUD total.

I'd recommend stumping up the extra $10USD for the RX 480, but on a tight budget the 470 for this price is also a good deal. I typically find RX 570s on FB Marketplace/Gumtree for around the $100AUD mark though (RX 480/580s seem to have sticky 2nd hand prices at $150AUD+ making the aliexpress model a better option IMO).

My thoughts on mining cards. Bought two 580's from Aliexpress. First one crashed under load. Second one three months later crashed under load. Never again.

Make sure they don't still have a mining bios on them… a card I got had a switch to toggle between 2 bios, one for mining and one for gaming. Came with a note saying if you use the mining bios for gaming its likely to crash.

      • They were regular gaming cards.

        • +9

Doesn't mean they didn't have a mining bios on them that makes them unstable for gaming (at best - often a mining bios will cause the card to throw an Error 43 in Device Manager).

Did you reflash the bios to a standard card bios from techpowerup?

I've bought plenty of ex mining cards and after flashing bios haven't had a single issue. Some really aggressively mined ones need some fresh thermal paste but not a big deal really.

  • Brings it down to $87? I thought cashback was only Max spend of $50

    • max $50 cashback no? this is only ~$15

      • Ah yes. I read it wrong. You are correct.

  • I've seen too many Linus Tech Tip videos of purchasing these type of cards from those type of sites, to not trust you are getting what you pay for. In some instances, you get damage your system using their altered cards.

anyone got these and confirm theyre actually 470s and not fake

    used card from china?

    how desperate are you

    • +1

Where are you getting second hand RX 480s for $100AUD delivered from then?

    • +2

better off buying a card from msy like a 1050 or a rx570 even though its a bit more expensive

      • +2

Cheapest RX 570 new is $179. With that attitude one wonders why we even have an OzBargain site at all? Let's just all pay full price for everything.

        • +3

Because you're buying used mining equipment at China that comes with basically zero warranty and has a decent chance of dying soon. Lose a bit of extra money to begin with or lose a decent bit of money then have to shell out even more for one that works?

          • @Tacooo: it's a game of risk/reward, if you can't afford to lose then obviously don't play, but imo the r/r is good here

          • +1

@Tacooo: Every single thing that I've bought from Aliexpress that hasn't functioned as advertised or hasn't arrived as advertised I've been given a refund on, when I open a dispute.

Some people are just ridiculously risk averse on here…

      • uh twice the price you mean?

"buy a 1050" said NO ONE ever!

Nothing wrong with a working used rx470/480/570/580/590 for a budget 1080p rig.

Like others have mentioned, make sure it's running a good bios, and give it a clean up (fan blades and maybe thermal paste re-application if it gets hotter than expected).

My old rx480 nitro+ has never skipped a beat, I've had it since launch.

Such a good card for the cost, and in the end it destroyed the 1060 that most people bought due to all the ultra biased tech reviewers on the Green team payroll.

      • Agreed, though better off buying a used card locally for a similar amount to this deal. It'll likely still have local warranty and not be mined on. The pictures in this deal are insane, huge warehouse floors covered in unboxed ex-mining cards stacked half a dozen high. There were huge operations of crytptomining, and these mobs bought up astronomical amounts of gaming cards, drying up supply and ramping up prices for a long time. The last thing a gamer should support is this, making a risky purchase on hardware that's been flogged, supporting these miners. Grab a local used card instead.

        • at the height there were stories of miners ordering gpu's by the planeload, and amd/nvidia looked the other way and allowed this to happen.

if you can find a local deal all the power to you, but in my experience that can take a fair bit of effort. the reality is these offer exceptional performance/$ and whether you support them or not it's not going to make much difference - australia is not a very big market.

          • @abctoz: Thats a lot of GPUs! Now that the cashback promo has expired, its $102, and as you commented above that locally you might score a used one for this much, may as well.

            • @chyawala: if you can snag one all the power to you… i mean that in earnest, because i simply gave up after a while, not everybody has a car and can get around etc

I think I might get a couple of these for some budget rigs

  • Another option from the same seller is the RX 580 8GB @ 163AUD or 111USD.

    • don't forget 10% gst. also consider the rx 480 4gb above, same core count as the 580 but half the memory
