    Im confused, what the code?

    • Did you order a coke bottle from the other deal?

If you so, you would have received a confirmation email. There will be a coupon code in there.

      • +1

Oh, no i did not. so its kinda targeted?

        • It was free to order

        • +1

I have spare codes if you need them as I won't be using them

          • @broseph21: Ill take a code if old mate doesnt want one, been wanting to try out alexa after my google homes have been pissing me off.

          • +2

            @broseph21: BLVV-J8BZ2W-EAAECL
            BLG3-M7AUDJ-L3RXCE
            BL2W-KHUTTS-UAKJCY

        • Not necessarily, you can just download the app, order a bottle, and you'll get the code. As per a comment in the other thread.

Thought you needed an Alexa device already, but just the app works fine.

          • +1

@mangobango: They ran out of bottles lol, but i got one luckily. Also got the amazon dot :)

            • @Koipanda: Damn, nice. I'm at work so tough luck for me.

              • @mangobango: There are people posting codes on here, maybe you could get one?

                • @Koipanda: More so wanted the coke bottle itself.

If I get an Echo I'd rather a Show 5 or something as I've already got a google home mini :)

But $29 is very tempting for a Dot..

Oooof course it was downvoted. Good old Ozbargain.

      • +5

Irrelevant info about the product (echo) or the deal - what did you expect?

        • …because there are such huge differences between the personal assistants that you can't compare them? Really? Thanks. I needed a laugh.

    • Why did you get two in the first place if you didn't want them?

      • That was the deal for however many points it was. A crappy speaker was the best benefit I had seen on offer since joining the program. It cost me nothing extra and otherwise points would just sit and rot.

    • Yeah not hard, just speak with it normally.

At the moment I can close/open/check: garage door, about 10 lights in different rooms, heater, tv/media player and voda tv, aircon, computer, oven with more to come.

I can do all of that from the comfort of my work chair some 25km away. My power consumption actually went down since I've setup all of these.

      • what product do you use for your garage door?

      • Me: Ok Google, what time is it?"
        GN: It's 2 o'clock.
Me: Okay Google. AM or PM?
GN: Sorry, I don't know how to help with that.
Me: Okay Google. Tell me that in 24 hour time.
GN: According to Wikipedia 24 hour time is…
        Me: Ok Google, stop.
Me: Ok Google, what time is it with am or pm?"
GN: Sorry, I don't know how to help with that.

It turns out you have to ask "what is the time of day" and then it gives you the date and time with an am or pm.

Not that I didn't know if it was night or day. But no way to switch it to 24 hour time, and no way in hell can you tell me "Yeah not hard, just speak with it normally.". That's baloney. It can pattern match voices reasonably well most of the time. It's also dumb as sand.

And as for power consumption going down, even if you're right will the bits and pieces you bought pay for themselves in their own lifetime? And as for environmental impact, electronics manufacturing and eventual disposal isn't without cost.

        • Google's gotten worse. I just say "Alexa… Time" and she says it's 4pm.

          • @Graffin: I bet I could break it nicely. So called AI assistants are not anything approximating real human intelligence. They're certainly not going to pass a Turing test.

    • -1

I don't want to pay big money for something that

… causes monetary losses in the future without my knowledge.

Or maybe your a typical Australian: you believe data collection and advertising works … but you also believe that your the magical case, that science has yet find in reality, where it doesn't work. Because you don't understand what the words automatic and unconscious imply.

      • What was that word salad?

    • +6

I went to the beach today but that isn't relevant.

      • -2

Did you think that was clever? You don't understand that a similar digital assistant isn't the same thing as bringing up a trip to the beach? Gimme a break.

And it gets upvoted. This place is vile. it's a haven for obnoxious bullying.

it's okay because I'm sure we can have an R U OK day promo and the admins can post some gaslighting nonsense about who to ring for mental health assistance if you feel like you're not coping. That'll make it all better.

        • +4

If you consider a few sarcastic remarks bullying then you're too sensitive to use the internet.

The most obnoxious comments in this thread are your own.

          • @spiff: Saying that Ozbargain has "a few saracastic remarks" is like saying Bill Gates has a few dollars.

"You're too sensitive for the Internet" is just victim blaming baloney and you ought to be ashamed it emanated from your keyboard.

"The most obnoxious comments in this thread are your own." just doubles down on the bullying. I said I had no use for a product. Unlike others I didn't start abusing and ridiculing people. (I did complain about downvoting.) If you find that too obnoxious "perhaps you're just too sensitive for the Internet". See 2 can play at that nonsense.

            • +1

@syousef: I'm sorry you're offended. We should all conform to your needs.

              • @4agte: You mean human decency and good manners?

                • @syousef:

You mean human decency and good manners?

Boy that is quite a stretch for a comment about going to the beach. There is no reason to respond in such a way at a comment that did not attack your or anyone else so personally. For someone that pretends to care about decency and good manners, needs to understand that they should apply the same principles they expect to receive from others. You are just coming across as a jerk.

                  • @4agte: "A comment about going to the beach"? That's how you characterize ridiculing someone and making out their comment is irrelevant is it? "did not attack your or anyone else". Yeah right! How could I possibly take that personally? How freakin' unreasonable of me. (Add gaslighting to the mix). Do you hear the tiny violins?

And I'm the one that you're accusing of bad manners and coming across as a jerk? WOW.

Have you considered a career in politics? Canberra's nice you know. Oh don't be offended it's just career advice that I'm offering innocently.

                    Thanks for the laugh!

                    • @syousef: TL:DR

                      Thanks for the laugh!

Did see this though. Glad you're finally laughing =)

Everyone is going crazy wanting codes for these things in the mega thread (the code saving is only $20 or less compared to recent sale prices anyway)

What are the major draw cards for getting this device? Just curious as why people want them so badly and what they plan to do with them

  • Back to $79- on amazon today so this (expired) deal feels like a bargain now.

    • Did you read first two lines of description?

      • Order "share a coke" personalised bottle for free from this deal
you will get a unique code in confirmation email.

They probably did. The first 2 lines refer to an expired deal. It is the unique codes in the comments which will help them

        • Back to $79- on amazon today

          Doesn’t seem like it

          They probably did.

  • For anyone who missed out, the original deal for the code is available again.

    • Are they still issuing codes? Ordered the coke, but got no code…

      • Code will appear in the confirmation email for the coke.

        • Yep, checked confirmation email - no code in there.
(Was I meant to opt in to hear from coke?)

    • friend did this tonight also no echo dot code, it appears they are doing the coke offer but no discounted echo dot anymore.
my code from yesterday is not working and ive never used it, i get a feeling the offer has expired or been ended.
