MSI AMD Radeon RX 5700 8G Video Card (Reference) $459 + $9.90 Shipping @ PC Byte

160

Excellent price for a vanilla 5700 - think I've only seen slightly better than this on eBay Plus. Reference blower cooler is on the louder side, but the non-XTs don't run all that hot compared to their bigger brother, so it can be tuned to your comfort level. Much better value to get one of these than any of the 5600XTs at current prices. Only issue with the deal is that I don't know much about the company.

Still kicking myself that I missed this deal last year :( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/504119

Why dwell on the past? The pursuit of bargains is a forward-looking endeavour.

      • +2

This seems almost too obvious to say, but the past informs whether a deal that comes up in the future is a good one or not. Especially for technology, which tends to go down, not up, in price over time.

        • So we should regret all purchases missed in the pursuit of bargains? That doesn't seem like a good way to live, man.

@iforgotmysocks: Thanks for the advice. It isn't keeping me up at night. Just means that I can't justify buying a RX 5700 unless/until they come down to that $432 price from late last year. Maybe you can. In which case, this is the deal for you.

@xyron: I will pray for you

@xyron: That was an insane deal. I also seriously doubt we'll see another deal on that level for a 5700 at least until the next gen shows up. Unless if it's for one of the 'broken' models (ASUS tuf comes to mind). I hope I'm wrong though! Good luck :)

This seems almost too obvious to say, but the past informs

Australian's have a very difficult time with the obvious.

If people did this when they voted Australia would be a different country.

For example, when John Howard became a war criminal in 2003 by invading Iraq, 85% were against the war crimes being carried out. Because they have a hard time with the obvious, they voted the war criminal back into power in the very next election after the war crimes occurred.

So people might not view Australians as war criminals if they'd looked to the past instead of being controlled by mainstream media (which told them the war was legal).

@Diji1: So I should wait for the greens to be in power before getting a new graphics card?

        • The problem isn't the price of technology, the problem is our terrible exchange rate because the LNP can't manage the economy. It's not really possible to get a good deal on a lot of items at the moment, compared to their historic prices.

I actually bought one of these - didnt pick it up from the post office in time ( The collect card never got delivered or blew away in the wind maybe? ) and got sent back and refunded.

Took it as a sign i didnt need one, and didnt rebuy lol

  • Nice. Would be great if it was on eBay for the same price.

  • I think u can flash these to XT

    • +6

You absolutely can! Some extra value in the card if you do. Won't be quite a true XT (somewhat lower FPS) but the difference is pretty small. If you start to overclock the XT, it pulls away a bit, but a flashed non-XT is insane price/performance!

Pass, this is a deal breaker for me - Reference blower cooler is on the louder side

    • Is it hard to water cool this?

      • nope, the waterblocks are actually made for the reference design's pcb

      • Yeah if you want to water cool, this is the model you want for the reasons titeywitey mentioned.

      • If you are set on a 5700 card and watercooling, yep, reference is the way to go, especially if you already have a custom loop and only need to buy the block for the card.
But for most people, I think it would be better to put the extra money towards one of the good partner model 5700xt's or a 2070 Super. You'll get better performance for similar/less money.

Edit: Note: I think this is still a great deal. I paid similar price about 4 months ago, flashed 5700 xt bios and very happy with the card. Noise and thermals are manageable, but depends on your case/backgroud noise level etc.

      • You can use a Kraken G12 and H55 pretty easily.
